one's ability to parry incoming blows, and a stalwart arm can enhance one's
ability to defend with a shield. Those who are closer to mastery of these
skills will benefit less from these supplications, and those attacking in a
berserker's rage or in a frenzy of combat will be unable to benefit at all.
