Unlike the pathfinding techniques employed by most wilderness aficionados,
the mariner looks not down, but up, to guide his travels. The secrets of the
stars, the sun, and the weather are a mariner's greatest tools when it comes
to navigation. Using these he is able to travel wide open spaces even more
efficiently than the traditional pathfinder, though when surrounded by
obstacles such as trees and mountain peaks, he will find navigation more
difficult.
