MAETHIEN 'RUINS OF MAETHIEN' (2790)

In the days of Thera's past, a city grew from the wilderness to house those
who would seek the unknown.  Exploring the pathways to other planes, the mages
of Maethien were the first to learn the art of conjuration.  With each new
advancement, their confidence grew and their explorations became bolder.
However, in the end it was their pride that was their doom.  As they opened a
pathway to another plane, a tide of evil swept over the city, and would have
continued to blanket the world in an eternal night had it not been for the
sacrifice of a single man.

Today, the city lies in ruins beneath a mantle of darkness held back by 
weakening bonds. Behind those bonds a force that has been held in check for
millenia awaits the chance to feed on the world once more.
