KOBOLD WARRENS 'KOBOLD WARRENS' (921)

The Kobold Warrens are a series of tunnels, caves and shafts located near
Galadon. To reach the Kobold Warrens, the explorer need only leave
through Galadon's northwest gate, traveling west, then north into their
caves. Beginning explorers and experienced ones (recommended for levels 1-7)
will find a challenge and perhaps a useful item or two as well as some
coins to fatten a purse. Young explorers are cautioned to bring a light
source and plenty of food and water for the long trek underground.
Kobolds are not known for their bravery under normal conditions, but
rumors speak of a new, more deadly, method of attacks by kobold raiders.
In the past, Kobolds were somewhat peaceful unless annoyed or attacked, but
perhaps that is changing. Whispers among travelers speak of a kobold queen
who rules with absolute authority and it is also said, she has begun
construction on defenses against intruders. Those same whispers and rumors
speak of delving and mining in the dark places in the warrens where the dark
queen seeks to expand her realm.
Caution is advised to any who seek the unknown riches of the kobolds,
for not only do kobolds dwell in the warrens, but other creatures have been
sighted in the dark places. It is said that there is an abundance of hidden
niches, crevices and passages to confuse the inexperienced explorer. One
such tale told by a traveler speaks of stumbling across a great troll in the
dark passages.
Regarding Kobolds: Barely clearing 3 feet in height, kobolds have
scaly hides that range from dark, rusty brown to a rusty black. They
smell of damp dogs and stagnant water. Their eyes glow like a bright red
spark and they have two small horns usually ranging from tan to white.
Because of the kobolds' fondness for wearing raggedy garb of red and orange,
their non-prehensile rat-like tails, and their language (which sounds like
small dogs yapping), these fell creatures are often not taken seriously.
This is often a fatal mistake, for what they lack in size and strength they
make up in ferocity and tenacity.
