Description
The lean face of this wiry elf is adorned with a wry smile
and a mischevious glint appears in light gray eyes.
Tall and whip-thin, he still seems well-muscled
and the sword and dagger at his waist seem suited to a warrior.
But there's a flute sticking out of his pack and good wine too
lending a more welcoming air to his overall demeanor.
A slight hint of wood smoke carries on the breeze near him
and there's a leaf or two stuck in the silvery braid hanging down his back.
Role
Background on Abert.

Abert (pronounced A-bear as in, "Look, a bear!"), was a somewhat shy
and nervous little elf prone to bouts of paranoia.
He certainly seemed to find himself most comfortable out in the woods
with a bottle of wine (or six) and the trees and squirrels for an audience.
Probably not the most auspicious set of character traits for someone who
decided to ply the path of the bard.
Abert tried to mask his shyness with a light-hearted, comedic tone to his poems and songs.
He had learned early on that if you could make them laugh, they were less likely
to try and kill you.
Not that he was entirely successful, so he did tend to avoid most crowds
and cities. He found a fairly like-minded bunch, at least
in regards to preferring the wilds to settled lands, in the sunwardens.
These he had learned about when he visited the OneHearts,
a mostly nice group of folks, but too many for him to stay long with.
A modest contest.

Abert had wandered, sung, drank and wandered some more.
He wandered under a huge Tree and found a home with the Sunwardens of Thar-Eris.
During some of these wanderings, he had been back near Darsylon
ostensibly to pilfer a little more wine from the King's cellar,
when he was accosted by the Prince who was also raiding the wine racks.
They got into a good natured jostling match that ended up with a challenge --
A drinking contest for bragging rights.
Now this was no common barroom dare, the Prince was known to be quite
a consumer of the fermented grape, something his father was chagrined about.
Indeed, when the King heard of the contest, he was hoping his son would lose
and come to his senses for a time.
The contest took much longer than anyone had thought.
Abert and the Prince drank steadily for nearly 2 weeks before they
both passed out and remained unconscious for another 2 weeks.
In the end, the match was considered a draw and both were declared losers!
(No one really wins a drinking contest, there are just
different shades of losers)
After he recovered from his near terminal hangover, Abert decided
that it was time to take up his wandering again and see if he couldn't gather
a few more stories to tell and do a bit about keeping all the evil
and orderly in their places while letting the wilds continue to grow.

As Abert traveled, sang and generally experienced challenges and adventures,
He began to get a bit more confident about his abilities.
He wandered into the deep deserts of Nonviel and found a treasure guardian.
There he battled for what seemed like ages, retreating to heal
and re-engaging with blade and song to finally defeat the beast
only to have 2 more pop up in it's place. Luckily, he manage to snag a key
from the corpse of the fallen one and while dodging blows,
unlocked the door and found the hidden treasure containing of all things:
a shiny silver harmonica. This was such a wonderful little instrument
that he felt all the time devoted to the quest was well worth it.
Once he figured he could win that fight, he had enough gumption to
start publishing a few little pieces - a small painting and a poem or 2.
He only intended for these to be temporary as if time itself were part of the art.
Critics abound though and while his feelings were hurt at being called
amatuerish, he figured that if he could defeat a Shyan'gul guard
all by himself, he could handle a little verbal abuse.
So he continued with little bits of work, published for a day or so.
