Description
The half-elf before is slightly taller than the average human, slender, but
more sturdy looking than a full-blood elf. He wears auburn air pulled tight
back behind his head. Slate-grey eyes peer out from beneath elegantly arched
brows. A strange burn, about 2 inches in length mars an otherwise flawless,
fair complexion. He has donned a thick grey woolen robe, which is oversized
for his body. It is impossible to see what he is wearing beneath. Just above
the hem of his robe, you see some faded, hand-stiched runes of unknown
origin.
Role
Acadus

Acadus was born to Elven father and human mother. How these two came together
is irrelevant for our purpose here. What matter's is that his mother was born
and raised in Galadon. His father was from Darsylon, from a long line of mages,
the Invoker's guild in particular.
His father was kind, but intolerant of anything but excellence. When Acadus was
only ten years old his father was killed tragically, but perhaps also
ironically, working with lightning. Acadus would sit watching his father for
hours. Brilliant lights streaked back and forth from his father's hands. A
simple, but consequential mistake... a mithril figurine, a child's toy left by
Acadus. His father lost his footing just slightly, sending a current through
the metal storage cabinet he fell into - fatal.
His mother moved them to Galadon, her hometown. However, Acadus was profoundly
affected by his father's death. What started as a mixture of guilt and shame,
morphed into a habit of perfectionism. Was it his fault or his father's? Things
needed to be executed perfectly, and dedicating oneself completely to the task
was the only path he could see.
He began to understand his father's death as a function of his father's
dedication. He had not prepared the space. He had not checked and
double-checked.
Acadus would often sit against the wall, near the entrance to the invoker's
guild in Galadon -- listening. On one occasion he heard the familiar
incantation on his father's lips before his death. Filled with a mixture of
grief and rage, Acadus repeated the words, sending sparks from his fingertips
which struck his face.
This moment set his course. Acadus would not have children, he would have no
wife. He would be married to the craft. While Acadus thought of himself as a
generally good person, he knew there would be occasions when the needs of the
craft would stretch his conscience. He would succeed where his father failed.
Growth and Clarity

As Acadus has grown within the Spire and withing the Invokers guild some things
have been clarified:
- While he believes in the place and purpose of the law, and will enforce it
with his life, he is a zealot than some of his colleagues. His love of the law
is practical and comes from his desire for the advancement of the arcane arts
which need time, space, and order.
- Those like Erreak who will not even associate with those of a more chaotic
nature are confusing to him. His line is the laws, not the internal biases of
those he encounters.
- Acadus is willing to engage with those very different from himself if their
pursuits align. There is always a purpose.
- His first love has always been and continues to be his study of the arcane
arts. He will at times allow his pursuit of knowledge and his dedication to
his craft to eclipse aspirations within the Spire. It would be unlikely for him
to seek out a higher position unless it was a matter of duty, something he was
pursued for. He does not seek glory.
- Already sensing the intractable nature of the war between the Outlanders and
the Spire, Acadus wonders if there are unknown frontiers of magic that may
give a decided advantage to the Spire. His current intent is to finish his
necessary studies within the Invokers guild, put the Outlanders in their place,
and dedicate himself to exploring the more unknown edges of the magical world.
Bias in the Spire

A recent encounter with the Villager Eledsoere has raised questions in the mind of Acadus.
Eledsoere had been attempting to return her cabal's item of power, when the
Outlanders came in and slew the Captian. Eledsoere then proceeded to enter the
Spire and assault Erreak. Acadus' initial reaction was that this moved beyond
an attempt to return the head and was therefore a criminal act. Was it though?
The 4th law does potentially grant freedom to assault magistrates on duty.
Troubled in his mind, Acadus went to Justiciar Gnobflink for a second opion on
the law, and the warrant. Justiciar Gnobflink explained that he interpreted
the 4th law not to protect Eledsoere in this case and so the warrant should
stand.
For weeks the Village has been raiding the Spire, hunting magistrates inside
and outside town, and this included Acadus. Had his disdain for the village
become an occassion for bias when interpreting and executing the law? Worse
yet, Acadus wondered, has it reached to the very top of the Spire leadership?
Acadus slept restlessly for days following this event. Did his subconscious betray him? Are any of
truly capable of executing judgment and justice impartially?
The Son has Surpassed the Father

Today Acadus finally felt as though he had achieved what he had set out his
whole adult life to do -- he has finished his studies in the path of lightning.
Acadus inherited a lack of affinity in the path from his father, and his
father's efforts in the path ended up being his undoing.
This is perhaps Acadus' most important achievement, not only on a professional
level, but personally -- his life has been driven by dedication to surpassing
his father, and in a sense, redeeming him.
This achievement has caused a shift in Acadus' mind. His obsession had limited
his focus within the Spire. Despite his distractedness, he has risen in
responsibility. He now sets his sights on ordering the Spire, which has seen
far too much chaos and turmoil as of late.
Increased Scrutiny

At least one bizarre chapter of chaos was closed today within the Spire.
Remero, a young shapeshifter who Acadus took a chance on inducting into the
Spire, had caused immense discord through lies and manipulation. Remero had
flagrantly broken the Laws of the Spire before attacking the Spire itself.
Before Remero's ultimate death, he surrendered himself to Acadus as a criminal
and he was forced to cut him down.
Acadus took no pleasure in his death.
All of this underscored that there is a battle to maintain order within the
Spire. He must remain vigilant on the streets and within the Spire. In his
younger years in the Spire Acadus had been naive, but no longer. The question
now is: Who can he trust? Those within the Spire will need to prepare
themselves for far greater scrutiny.
