Description
Quick to laugh with a big smile on her face, this woman seems full of energy,
despite the obvious lines that cover her face giving testament to the many
years she has walked these lands. Pruned, rosy cheeks and green, sunken eyes
are framed by the grey locks that hang down from beneath a wide brimmed
wizard's hat. Her movement slow from age, but no less whimsical than in her
youth. You can almost feel the aura of magic radiate from her and there is no
doubt that she knows how to use it.
Her faded robes are red with silver trim and are cinched by a frayed red silk
rope. Bags stuffed full of reagents and charms hang from her belt and seem to
weigh her down. A pair of worn red silk shoes are barely visible underneath
the robes and her toes are barely visible through the holes that ages of use
have caused. She leans heavily on an old staff, polished to a shine from her
handling of it. Burned into it's side half way up is a symbol: (@).
Role
Development and Background

If there's an age that's not too young to see your pop die, five years old
isn't it. But here we are. It had been a month since it had struck the
homestead on the outskirts of Tir-Talith. They were still living in the only
structure left standing, the grain silo. It was barely fit for the rats that
infested it, much less a newly widowed mother and her little girl.
Had they any other option, they'd have taken it. But pop had put all their
savings toward seed for the summer crops. But, the crops were now gone along
with the house, barn, livestock and...pop. Acra had always thought him
immortal in the way little girls frequently see their fathers. He meant the
world to her and in an instant, as she watched from the silo door, the
twister took him.
Acra's development slowed considerably in the following years. She did her
best to rationalize what had happened to make it bearable. She developed a
disdain for any notion of performance. The tornado became a symbol not just
for the destruction of her world, but the whole world. Misery loves company,
and in her mind what happened to her had to be the fate of everyone at some
point. Not in a literal sense, but anything meant to last, meaningful, or
loved...all of it would someday have to come crashing down or 'Face the
twister' as she would like to say. She and her mother eked out an existence
on what they could grow or beg from town. Both in poor health, she headed to
Voralian city at the age of sixteen after her mother died and took an
apprenticeship at the guild of shapeshifters.
Believes and Behaviors

The beliefs she constructed in her mind that allowed her to endure the pain
and loss she felt carried into her adult life. She believes that everything
is trying to return to it's natural state of chaos. Therefore, there is little
to fear in thought or deed as our fate as that of the world is sealed. Chaos,
in time, will prevail and she is content to watch the show and also hasten
it's victory when it suits her. Morality is fleeting as is everything else.
She does not disdain others for their beliefs and often is entertained by
them. Her sphere is courage as she knows what is to come and embraces it
without fear. She is also unburdened by the fear that her actions or thoughts
may have long term consequences since over a long enough timeline, it will
all be returned to the maelstrom. She doesn't seek death that she's aware of
nor does she fear it.
What she does believe in is loyalty. It was a value her father exhibited. As
was honesty, service and compassion toward others. She does not know this is
why she thinks these traits so important, but she strives to exhibit them and
seeks them out in others. She does not believe in institutions or social
constructs deciding who her friends are and who it may or may not be
appropriate for her to connect with. It is this same belief that drew her
toward the guild of shapeshifters. She loathes to be assigned an identity or
label by others and struggles to avoid doing so to herself. And she does have
a temper.
Promise to a Friend

The undead paladin had fallen, but not before his curse of disease had been
uttered. As I sat sweating and dizzy, the priest just shook her head. She did
not have the power to cure this and told me I must travel to the city of
arials where the most powerful healer worked. I knew this healer well, but
the journey would prove difficult to make. My legs were tired and my magic
weak. I had to fly else I would not make it.
I landed roughly at the healers feet. His look made it obvious, being an
arial, that he was accustomed to more graceful entrances. I dropped a couple
gold in the coffer as he uttered prayers of healing. As my strength returned,
we spoke on many topics. We touched on politics, from which, like me, he is
largely isolated. We spoke about wisdom and the world. He doesn't get out
much, but he knows a lot from the stories he's told with adventurers coming
and going. He is a kind soul. I asked him how I could repay him as he's saved
my life many times.
"When you see someone in need and help them", he said with a knowing smile
as if I should have known this. And perhaps I should have. I promised him I
would. I gathered my things and turned back to say something, but he was
already attending to another. I thought about his words all the way down the
mountain.
A Promise Kept

Not a day had passed when I landed in Galadon to sell some treasures I had
come across. There, in Market Square was a warrior. He was mortally wounded
and could not move. My promise to the healer came to mind. What can I do for
this man? I must find a way to heal him! But, as I prepared to take form and
fly, I recognized him. He was a villager. He was sworn to kill me and he had
tried before. I paused. Surely the healer would not expect me to help a
mortal enemy. But, I would help a friend without being told, I thought. A
promise would not be needed to do that. I decided I must help him, my enemy,
to repay the healer. For he was one in need.
I flew to Mortorn where I had seen a healing talisman and back. I thought it
was a fool's errand, but surprisingly, the man was still alive when I
returned. I brandished the talisman and he was able to stand. He said that he
hadn't asked me to heal him and asked why I had. I told him because I had
made a promise to a friend. He cursed and ran toward the village.
I could not force a smile, but I did feel satisfied. My promise had been kept.
Then it struck me. When the healer told me to help someone in need, In my
fevered state, I had responded, "Aye, I'll do it twice!" I just hope the next
person I find in need is a little more palatable.
A Peculiar Gnome
Added Tue May 9 18:57:54 2017 at level 51:
Koelegh SpryWhistle. I first met the little gnome of balance in the High
Tower of Sorcery. This was long after the island had been deserted by Nexun.
He was working for the Tower to grow the ranks of magi. I met him there when
I presented my items to the drunk transmuter. We spoke about many things and
it was he who cautioned me against joining the Entopists. Their focus is not
magic, they merely use it as a tool for chaos he said. While I am wild at
heart, I do revere magic above creating chaos, so I never did join. I
remember the meeting well, because as we were discussing my forms, and my
inability to see through the shadows, we were attacked by a dirty thief. We
both lived, but when I came too after being knocked out, I was very surprised
that some spell had chained me to the floor!
Anyway, I hadn't heard from the gnome in decades. Now a master of my magic,
he pops up and tells me of his 'calling' he's found. He had to tell me
twice as I must have looked like I didn't understand him at first. I did
think he was joking. The gnome seeks to restore the old magic. Rebuild the
tower. The tower of the Five Magics! After some discussion, he asks me to be
the master of my craft in this endeavor and I agree. Now I search for master
of the other disciplines so that the five can go before the god of magic
himself, Twist!
Since our latest meeting, I have been keeping an eye on the up and coming
magi. I help them on their journey and council them not to close any doors at
their young age, such as taking any oaths and such. And I watch them. I hope
I will be able to find some that are motivated and suited to pursue what may
come. Perhaps a fool's errand. Time will tell. A journey worth taking I
think.
