Description

A striking young Half-Elf stands proudly here. Tall and slim, but without any hint of physical strength, it is clear that this Elf is not one suited or experienced in the manual arts. His brilliant azure eyes look out at the world with a friendly, yet detached expression, his lips curled slightly in a a mild smile. The sharp noble features of his face are framed elegantly by his flowing chestnut hair, Elven ears poking subtly through his mane, giving further clue to his High-Elven heritage.

Role

The Lugubrious Lich

Added Sun Oct 26 07:41:16 2008 at level 48:
I have served as a Scribe to the Acolytes of the Golden Sun. I doubt anyone
truly knows what it means to be an Acolyte, when watching them from afar. I
am no exception. But I have struggled to learn the path. To live it, and to
understand it.

This eve, I think I took a significant step in that direction. And as odd as
it may sound, I think I owe the lesson to a Lich.

I shared many words with the Emperor Lich Ahtieli, after a brief conflict
wherein we regained our Orb. Though it began as little more than a taunt, I
think the Lich revealed more to me in the conversation than it had ever
intended. Its words were soaked in dismay, in sadness and despair. While I
have no expectations that the Lich still retains those emotions, or any
others for that matter, I think it is significant that through his death and
his becoming, his aura of sadness remains.

Of course, the Lich has no soul. The Lich has no heart. It has no real hope
of redemption. It has passed that point. It passed it when it sold it's soul
and it's life for the power it now wields.

But perhaps that is our own fault. Before this Lich was a Lich, it was but a
man. A man walking a painfully lonely path. A path where he looked for
belonging, for friendship. For a cure for his loneliness.
And when he did not find it in the conventional sense, he found it in death,
and in instilling fear in others.

And he was a man who was waiting. Begging to be saved. But he went unnoticed.
Or forgotten. Or ignored. And the window to which is soul, and countless
others could be saved, was closed. And he is a Lich. Beyond hope.

It does no good to long for the past, when this future could be changed. But
we must learn from the mistakes committed, and never repeat them.

I was told once, that if any of the Fortress fall from a righteous path, it
is my own responsibility to prevent it. I would take it a step further. If
any man, woman, or child falls to the corruption of the darkness, then I have
failed them. That is my task. Not merely to watch and tend to the Fortress.
Nor even to watch and tend to those who already bask in the Light. My
responsibility.. each of our responsibilities, extends to every soul which
walks Thera.

A difficult task. A task some would call unwinnable. But one which can not be
ignored.

My Righteous Responsibility

Added Mon Oct 13 10:34:34 2008 at level 29:
I have accepted that I will never be a truly great hero. I will never be one
fighting off hordes of enemies. I will never be that great Elven knight
defending a village from a ruthless dragon. I am not that hero.

But.. there are other paths. There are other ways to influence the world for
goodness. That is my purpose now. I am no longer royalty. I am no longer a
Prince. I am merely a High-Elf, travelling Thera. I see the despair, the
dismay everywhere. It is my duty as a High-Elf to look after them. To tend to
them. Though I may not easily pick up a sword and fight for their cause,
there are other ways which I might ease their suffering.

I spoke briefly with one known as Padwei, and better known as the Elder
Prophet of the Light. While an able force in combat, I am sure, she has not
chosen that path to focus her intentions of goodness for Thera. Instead, she
has chosen another. A path that, while at times encountering violence and
war, is not directly dedicated to it.

I have meditated. I have thought, and I have considered this a great deal. We
are all given strengths, and we are all given weaknesses. It is the
responsibility of each of us to determine where our strengths can be best put
to a righteous use.

And I believe I have found my path.

A Snubbed Son

Added Sat Oct 11 16:03:34 2008 at level 18:
I was the eldest son of the King of Andollyn. I was to be his heir, and the
future King.

But while still in my youth, it was apparent that I was not the most worthy
of his sons. My younger brother, younger by less than a single day, proved
himself stronger. Faster. More adept with a sword, with a mace.. with any
weapon given to him.

I was deemed weak, by comparison. And so I was passed over.

They told me that I was smarter than my brother. Wiser. Infinitely more adept
in the arcane arts, even. But these were traits to the advisors, not to the
ruling King himself, and not to the Crown Prince of Andollyn. And so it was
deemed. It would be my brother, not myself, who would inherit the throne.

I was welcomed to stay in Andollyn, and serve at my brother's right side,
when the time finally did come. But no one expected or desired me to stay. My
Father had chosen his superior child, and the inferior.. myself, was to be
discarded. I cannot say I blame them. The Throne is not something to be
passed lightly. It is an inheritted responsibility, but never a right.

And so I left Andollyn, in the darkness of the night. I travelled east, and
south. I travelled over the dangerous Calandaryl Mountain range. And I
arrived in the greatest of Elven cities, Darsylon.

A stranger here, no one expected greatness from me. They expected mediocrity.
And for the most, their expectations were mildly surpassed. I struggled with
my path in life. I contemplated my options. I longed for home. I missed it,
and knew I could never stay in Darsylon, or any other city, for my life. I
had no choice but to travel. To adventure. And I remembered my own Father's
advisors, as they experimented and demonstrated their own arcane abilities.
They told me I had great potential in the Transmutation arts. And so after
pitying myself, that the great Darsylon Palace would never welcome me, I
found the Guild of the Transmuter. I applied, and was easily accepted to
begin my training.

I still don't know what path I may take in this life. But I know that it will
never be handed to me easily. Instead, I must go out into the world of Thera,
and seize it myself.

A Peasant's Perspective

Added Sat Oct 11 15:50:25 2008 at level 18:
The ruling family of Andollyn? Well the King is a fine ruler. Kind, but..
cold. Unapproachable. Detached, even. He cares greatly for the city, that
much is not in question. The taxes are fair. The city clean, and well
protected. We flourish, to be honest. So of course the King must care.
But.. he rarely shows it. In fact, he rarely speaks to us at all.

The eldest son, or at least the son that I assume is his eldest, is of the
same mold. A strong warrior, you often see him sparring with the guards in
the Courtyard. That, of course, when he isn't immediately at the King's side.
Likely learning how to lead for when his own time, comes. No one worries of
the day. Or at least no one has mentioned it to me. He seems capable, if
detached, like the King himself.

But the other twin. He seems quite different. You never see him with his
Father. Perhaps he's annoyed at the attention his brother gets, but who am I
to make such assumptions? He does seem much friendly than his brother. He
personally handed me a bottle of fine Elven wine, as we passed in the Market.
A generous soul, that much not to be questioned. I've heard rumors that he
dabbles in the arcane. Not quite a Royal pursuit, but I always thought that a
silly tradition. He enjoys it, so who are we to judge?

Come to think of it, though, I haven't seen that one in quite some time. I do
hope he hasn't fallen ill, or worse. I wonder where he's been.
