Description
A short, rather portly gnome stands here, barely 3 feet in height.
You make from his choice in clothing that he is either a rather commonplace
gnome, or he simply cares little about the quality of his garb. Cheap, barely
tanned leathers adorn him from head to toe. He appears to dress in layers
of robes and flowing cloaks alike as you can make out oddly shaped bulges
from pockets that do not appear to be easily accessible. The beginnings of a
short, stubbly beard covers most of his otherwise young face. Relatively well
kept hair barely reaches his neck line. The dark brown hair almost appears to
be slightly singed at the tips. Bushy brown eyebrows sitting atop large
brown eyes are the most prominent feature on this gnome's round face.
Role
A brief background
Added Sun Nov 17 21:21:41 2013 at level 10:
Aerde comes from a small village just outside of Hillcrest. His village was
known to outsiders as a simple commune of farmers and lesser known scholars.
The truth behind his village, and even his family, will never be fully
understood. When Aerde was but a small child his village was ransacked and
burnt to ashes by a wild raiding party of magic haters. His memories of the
raid are vague at best, and now, nearly completely blocked out of his memory.
During the raid he lost his mother, father, and three sisters. The last thing
he remembers from the day is a wretched feeling of nausea coming over him
before finding himself in the back of a wagon. As fate would have it, the
magic haters took the wagon and used it to pile on their spoils. Aerde
further hid himself amongst the piles of clothing, crop, and weaponry stolen
from his village. On the long trek back, Aerde found a chance to completely
escape the unknowing grasp of his captors when they stopped along the great
Eastern road to trade their loot. He ran west, as far and as fast as he could
until he came about the great city of Galadon.
With not a single coin to his name and only a few tattered leathers that he
could manage to carry, Aerde enrolled himself in the traveler's academy to
learn of the new world that had become his home.
Additional details
Added Sun Nov 17 21:22:14 2013 at level 10:
Aerde, like his family before him, has a natural affinity for magic. While
wit is not his foremost trait, a knack for contemplative reasoning leads
him to act generally only after a deep analysis of the known, formulating
assumptions of the unknown, and an analysis of the possible outcomes.
He has a natural desire to learn and seek new knowledge. This, to him, is
due to a desire to learn of his family's past. Despite his greatest attempts
and deepest meditation, he is unable to unblock the details of the day his
village was pillaged from his memory.
He may, one day, due to circumstances that cannot be predicted, learn of
the true reasons behind the raid. Aerde's father was part of a council that
served the village of Hillcrest. The primary purpose of the council was to
research the veil, planar connections and the ultimate purpose of magic on
this plane. Word of new revelations made by the council reached the lands
far to the south and instigated the attack. Unfortunately, this happened
long before the revelations had been openly shared, much less documented.
The beginnings of a journal and an arduous journey
Added Mon Dec 30 18:02:31 2013 at level 51:
The following is a journal entry from Aerde's personal journal depicting
the sense of uncertainty and self-questioning that has been at the forefront
of Aerde's mind over the course of the last few Theran months.
9 o'clock, the 4th of the Month of Nature -
It has been weeks now since Turmi has first told me of his confidence,
explaining that he would be campaigning for me to take the place as Meter
of Mind. I remember that initial conversation so clearly - if only the rest
of my earliest memories would be so vivid! I was encouraged and somewhat
worried at the same time. Do I have the patience, the wisdom, the damned
prowess to take such a position? I cannot fail, there is so place for
failure - the balance is too delicate. Ah! I must meditate more.
Upon waking this day I was announced by the Abolisher as the Meter -
It is now official. But will it be a fleeting task? Can I continue the
course that Turmi has initiated? I pray to my ancestors that I will serve
the balance well.
Perhaps I will find time to study the veil more in depth some day. Some day..
