Description
Chestnut curls delicately cascade down to the shoulders of the woman
before you. The ringlets are secured by a turquoise headband to frame
her petite face. High cheekbones drop to a sharp nose above subtle lips.
Her pale skin is protected beneath the meticulously tailored gray dress
she wears that extends to cover her arms. The clothing fits tightly
enough to accentuate her modest bosom and narrow body before loosening
at the hips to allow her to move freely. She stands at just five and a
half feet in height though she looks to care little for appearing taller
with simple black leather flats on her feet. A matching belt encircles
her waist that holds a few small weapons and pouches. Most of what she
carries resides in a meticulously organized long pack that rests snugly
on her back. The faint hint of lavender wafts from her.

Asyame gave a seductive swish of her hips as she walked the square of
Hamsah, advertising her services better than any hawker could. The young
man who swaggered up to her did not impress her, but the gold he held up
spent so she led him back to her small room. It had a musty scent to it
that soon worsened as they worked up a sweat. She had long ago lost the
pleasure from the act but was as good an actress as any. When he slipped
out for the night, she found herself tired enough to call it a day.
She wasn't surprised when the same man came back and visited her again as
she had regulars. Over time she realized that Konroos was more than that.
She found herself being gifted beautiful clothes and jewelry then taken
out to fancy places to eat. She was scared to find the unthinkable had
happened - she had fallen in love with him.
She found herself dressing more modestly and staying home waiting for
him. They soon wed and Asyame finally had the beginning of what she had
always wanted as an orphan in a family. She still felt like a piece was
missing from her life and she finally stopped taking the bitter herbs to
have a child. Aesrii was born not long after, a beautiful girl who was
surprisingly quiet and inquisitive for a baby. She would still break the
silence to be fed and changed. Asyame struggled with a young babe and at
times felt as if she was losing her sanity, but they were getting by.
Justice

One late evening as Aesrii was sitting on her father's lap being fed,
a knock on the door came. He handed her to Asyame to answer the door.
He was surprised to see two guards there, quickly leaping to grab him
and bind him in chains. Asyame was quick to scream but Aesrii just
watched quietly as he was taken away.
They both eventually found themselves in tears though for different
reasons, each wearing down enough to fall into fitful sleep together. A
letter arrived the next morning, informing them that Konroos was a thief
who had stolen from the Sultan and had been beheaded. His head now rotted
on a spear at the palace as a statement for all other thieves.
As Aesrii grew older she found herself a pariah of Hamsah society as none
wished to be tarnished by association with one punished so harshly by the
Sultan. Her mere presence pained her mother, for she was nothing more than
a memory of a happiness she had once had. They managed to get by, but it
was not a happy existence for them either.
Discovery

Aesrii found her sole escape in the books her mother would buy for her.
She was a bright girl and could lose herself in the stories for days. Her
mother was eager to have a quiet house and would eagerly buy her daughter
every book she could find. The small library in their house grew as the
two found a semblance of peace with each other.
As Aesrii grew older and learned more from her reading, she began to
realize that her situation was not normal. Her mother did not work yet
they lived in a modest home and lacked for nothing. She knew that her
mother must have a savings of some size to keep them so comfortable and
begun to worry that her books would be the end of their comfort.
She had to know how large the savings were but knew her mom would dismiss
her as a young woman. She waited until the next time her mother went
shopping and quickly began searching through her mother's room. It took
some time, but she finally found the false back in the largest drawer in
her dresser. A mass of jewels and gold coins were amassed there.
Decision

Aesrii was torn as she knew there was no way her mother had gathered this
massive fortune on her own. It could only be what her father had stolen
and died for. These riches were what kept them outcasts on the streets of
Hamsah. The people knew her mother did not work but had coin, they must
know she had wealth hidden away. They must suspect it was ill-gotten.
Aesrii thought long about the decision, but it wasn't as hard as she
expected. She left the next time her mother was out and went to the
palace. She approached the guard and told them she had found evidence of
a crime. She gave her full statement and led them to the riches in her
home. They kept her there as they sent guards to arrest her mother, so
that she did not have to witness the scene.
After her mother was apprehended, she turned to leave, finally feeling as
if the dark stain upon her family would be cleared. The guard stopped her
before she could take the first step and asked, "You have no family left
now?" She nodded and for the first time felt the weight of that statement.
The guard handed her a scroll sealed with the mark of the Sultan in wax.
He said, "The Sultan was impressed with the honor you showed to him and
the law. This document will gain you entrance into any guild within
Hamsah." He nodded then motioned her away.
She took one final look up at the palace up close. She felt a mix of
emotions that confused her. A respect for the Sultan and his guards
weighed most heavily upon her. She said to the guard, "I am no fighter,
but how would I help the guard?" He smiled and responded kindly, "Seek
the Spire in Galadon, they station Magistrates here who help keep the
law." She left while thinking that sounded like a promising idea.
Guilds

Aesrii had thought often about life outside of staying home but found
herself quite anxious when finally experiencing it. She knew enough of
the guilds to dismiss the martial they often neglected what she knew
to be her greatest strength, the mind. She knew from her books that
she had the potential to be a mage, though she feared she would find
herself without the talent.
She first visited the necromancer and anti-paladin guild but found the
dark arts they practiced required a viciousness that she just couldn't
find within herself. She visited the conjurer guild next but did not
think their words on the need to convince demons and angels would come
as well from her tongue. She briefly visited the shapeshifter guild but
did not want to learn how to bite something repeatedly despite how
marvelous it sounded to fly high in the sky. She visited the transmuter
guild and found their magic quite remarkable, but their reliance on
striking with their staff was still just not to her liking.
She finally found a home in the invoker guild. They could weave all
sorts of elements to protect her and harm those that might wish her harm.
She found the spark of magic in channeling frost to her fingers quite
quickly. She was relieved knowing that she could study here. They found
her studious nature to be a requirement and were quick to point her to
other libraries she could pursue as well. Aesrii found the idea of an
Eternal Library wonderful and planned to go there to look at their unique
works. Perhaps she could even write her own work for others to read. The
thought intrigued her, though she knew that she would first have to find
a topic she had mastered and that seemed a daunting task.
Welcomed Home

Aesrii was persistent in her goal to join the Tribunal. She wrote a
missive soon after leaving the Academy. When that garnered little
attention, she sought out the leadership while they woke making
sure they knew she was about and pursuing her studies. They had
little interest until the Captain of the Guard accepted her pledge,
but then she was able to finally get time with one of the
provincials - Celdimerick.
She had expected to be grilled on interpretations of the law,
but instead found most of the questions sharing the story of
her life. When the law finally rose, it was a strong caution
with her guild and their spells within the protected cities.
She was disheartened at first, but as time grew she realized
it was great wisdom to give such strong advice now instead of
after a mistake.
She was soon entered in the roles and quick to explore and
study in their library. There were many books with rules not
commonly known outside of the Spire. She realized that there
was as much of a social hierarchy here as there was in any city,
and knew she would defer to show respect to those above her
in command. It was convenient to have such easily listed for
all to read as well.
Her studies were a much more difficult process. She had thought
that she would be able to sit in her guild and master her spells
but soon realized many such spells would break the law to
practice in town. She was forced to leave the quiet sanctuary
of her guild and practice her spells on live targets. She
found little comfort while on these expeditions while in
the wilds roughing it, and much preferred a quiet chair and
her tome of notes.
