Description
A middle-aged man stands here, tall with the broad shoulders of an
athlete. He is handsome, if showing some signs of age, with his emerald
green eyes betraying a great depth of wisdom and determination. Flecked
with bits of gray, his dark brown hair contrasts only slightly with his
pale tan complexion. A genuine smile is fixed upon his lips, though the
fierce determination of his eyes brings a greater depth to his true
demeanor.

Time has passed, and Ailen has grown much, over the years. Physically,
emotionally and physically he has matured.
Ailen has always struggled with the fate of his parents. While he was
only a boy when they allowed themselves to be corrupted, Ailen still
looked at it as a personal failure. His family fell, their lives
destroyed, and he did nothing to stop it.
But the Lady Baerinika gave him some insight which helped him realize the
truth. Telling him to look upon the good he has done, and have hope for
the future, for the good he will continue to do. It is hard for anyone
not to dwell on their failures, and on the potential for future failures.
But it was doubly so for Ailen, who, in his own min at least, had already
failed so greatly.
It was in conversation with the Elder Prophet that Ailen finally
understood he needed to recover from this memory. While those thoughts,
those regrets, will always be with Ailen, he can not let them control
him. He needed to focus on the present, rather than dwell on the past.
His acceptance into the Fortress of Light was the catalyst. His newfound
duties, his newfound family needed him far more than the memories of his
family, of his past failures did.
And so Ailen moved away from home, and into Voralian City.
His family will always be important to Ailen, their memory always driving
his focus, forbidding that he make another such mistake. But Ailen has
taken the first step in recovering from the tragedy.
A new family now needs him, and he will not let them down.
Understanding..?
Added Thu Sep 24 23:37:18 2009 at level 22:
Ailen was a rather confident boy. Even before, but particularly after
what he referred to as his "enlightenment", Ailen was very sure of
himself and his purpose in Thera. This surety followed Ailen, as he
joined the Guild of Paladins. As he left Seantryn Modan and ventured
Thera. And as he stepped into the misty ruins of the Spearmaiden.
But there, that surety.. that confidence in his role in Thera, faded.
Lady Baerinika challenged him. Challenged his understanding, and
challenged how he might pursue his goals.
While he seemed to have satisfied her deepest concerns, Ailen walked out
of the ruins frustrated. Not with the Spearmaiden, but with himself. For
the second time in his life, he felt foolish. Only this time, there were
no immediate revalations to be had.
Not one to give up, Ailen continued on as best as he could. Understanding
came slowly at first, but it did come.
In conversation with Lady Baerinika, Aelin compared himself to a
shepherd. Protecting his flock from the encroaching wolves. But after
spending many years travelling Thera, intending to do precisely that, it
became clear how flawed a perception that really was.
Thera is not so easily divided. Very few Therans can be called black or
white. They each seem to live in some shade of gray. Perhaps that is why
Ailen is called to what he must. To eliminate the shades of darkness, and
demonstrate how to live a life of righteousness, of purity.
And that, perhaps, is what the Spearmaiden was referring to those many
months ago. She was unsatisfied in his expected role of preacher, of
guide. Thera is not a peaceful place, and a peaceful man has no place in
the war for Theras soul.
And so Ailen must not only lead the innocent souls along a path of
Purity, but he must remove the corrupting forces that stand in their way.

As you might expect, these events had a massive impact on Ailen. A boy
struggling to become a man, and his family was gone forever. Even his
friends.. or rather those who had once claimed to be, abandoned him so as
not to be caught associated with the backlash.
Ailen was alone. Completely and utterly alone.
With no one to turn to, he found himself in the Temple of Light, tucked
away under the city. It was here where Ailen learned a new way of life.
While still the inheritor of a significant fortune, Ailen shunned it. He
saw the way his family rotted away due to their wealth, and Ailen refused
to follow the same path.
The priests of the Temple were impressed by the change in young Ailen.
The young boy was wiser than they had given him credit for. Only a few
short days after his arrival, and Ailen was giving lectures on the sins
of excess and corruption from greed, rather than recieving him. Indeed it
became clear that he was more than just a troubled boy in need of
guidance. He was very special.
Upon recognizing his potential, the Priests recommended Ailen to the
Guild of Paladins, just near the Temple. It was here that Ailen, for the
first time in a long time, found a home.
Unable to offer any more guidance directly to this gifted Pupil, the
Priests direct Ailen to the heavens to continue his spiritual growth.
Scandal
Added Sat Sep 19 14:08:12 2009 at level 1:
Spencer and Dawn Kinsley had no occupation to speak of. They were, as
they considered themselves, aristocrats. Their occupation was being
wealthy, and making certain everyone knew of their wealth. Their money
came from shipping, though they did nothing to deserve it. A business
created by their familiy generations before, they reaped the benefits.
And they had a single son, spoiled and groomed to take over this life of
leisure. They called him Ailen
Ailen was a popular boy. Well-liked, and seemingly more grounded than
most of this lifestyle. But he was still a boy like any other, and loved
the life he was born into. By all tells, he would grow into the lifestyle
and continue his family's excesses.
Life was good for the Kinsley family.
But as any man with no concerns, worries or struggles, Spencer felt
unfulfilled. That emptiness led to a variety of unsavory pursuits, each
more despicable than the last. Finally, it pulled him into a sleazy
brothel. Paying for satisfaction is not something particuarly uncommon.
But for one of his stature to visit such ann inferior establishment was a
major scandal. And an embarassment to the upper crust.
Dawn of course learned of it, as rumors of the wealthy spread more
quickly than wildfire. And living a life where she was given everything
she ever wanted, she did not know how to react to adversity. And so she
reacted as she did everything else, with gross excess.
Spencer was murdered in a particularly sloppy fashion. The guard would
have preferred not to investigate the crimes of the wealthy, but Dawn
made her guilt far too obvious to the city. And so she was arrested,
tried, and sentenced. No one visited her, and no one heard from her
since.
Least of all her only son, Ailen.
Basics

** Below is a brief glimpse into Ailen's personality and beliefs.
** The story of how he came to believe so strongly as he does
** will follow.
Ailen is very intense when it comes to his beliefs. He is not shy of
sharing his opinion, and gets frustrated at those who ignore them. It is
hard for Ailen to make friends, as he has very high standards for
everything, and is not forgiving of those who cannot live up to them.
Ailen believes that greed and excess are the greatest corrupters of men's
souls, be it a lust for power, wealth, possessions, women, alcohol or
anything else that might be covetted too greatly.
As such, he severly distrusts bars, brothels, an gambling establishments.
Particularly the Inn of the Eternal Star.
Ailen, ultimately wants to live as an example of a Pure life, and to lead
others to a similar choice. As an example of such, Ailen has chosen the
path of a Monk, further testament that a man's pure soul is all he needs,
and that even a warrior of the Light can forgoe the possessions that so
many hold dear.
Unafraid of death, Ailen will not stand down in the face of adversity.
But ultimately, you can not force a person to live a good life. Only show
them the possibility, that they can make the choice.
To this end, Ailen is curious of the Acolytes of the Golden Sun. He may,
one day, find himself among them. But only if they prove to live up to
the high standards he expects of his allies and friends.
