Description

A tall human stands here, face shadowed by a hood pulled up closely over his face. As he enters the light, his face is illuminated and for a brief moment, you see a face scarred by what looks to have been a horrible disease. Pock-marks cover a face that once looks to have been very handsome and patches of his hair have fallen out from his head and even his short beard. His clothing under his armor is loose in the places where it can get free, almost as if he would rather the clothing did not touch his skin. Unmarred bright blue eyes, the color of the sky after a rainy day has just cleared peer out from under unkempt eyebrows and over sunken cheeks. Two daggers rest in sheathes at his side and he walks with a deadly grace that makes you think he definately knows how to use them well.

Musings on Balance

Added Fri Oct 13 08:43:27 2006 at level 3:
Balance... what is truly the meaning of the word. I have
always found that balance truly meant a joining between
two things on opposing sides. That does not mean they
have to be equal in all things, though with balance, the
door does swing both ways, and often with chaos. When
most people think of balance, they automatically think of
the balance between Light and Darkness. While that
balance is a large one in every world and every species,
there is also other things to be considered. Nature and
magic, war and peace, order and chaos... all these things
are also a part of what truly makes up the sense of
balance. What most people do not understand about these
concepts is this: One can never destroy the other. The
Light cannot destroy the Darkness, nor can Nature destroy
Magic... the list goes on. The true nature of balance is
when one side of an opposing pair grows too strong, it
yanks everything from under them, putting them back into
balance. There was once a group of people in Thera who
put all their effort into keeping the sides of Light and
Darkness balanced. While I commend their efforts, I think
they also went about it wrong. They focused on only one
part of the nature of balance, ignoring the others such as
order and chaos. I have heard rumor that the ways of
the Seekers of Balance have returned upon Thera, and I
hope that it will be my pleasure to wield my weapons in the
cause of true Balance one day soon.

Noble Beginnings lead to Balance

Added Fri Oct 13 08:45:31 2006 at level 3:
Alazarn was born into a noble house, though which one he keeps a
secret even to himself. As a child he was adored by nearly all
within the manor he lived in, instantly liked by almost everyone
he met. As he grew, great things were expected of him and the
people his family looked after felt that they would prosper as
never before under his guidance. Unfortunately, not all things
good are meant to be.

In the recent times, there has been chaos reigning over all the
land of Thera. Dead rising, plagues and disease spreading, the
war between Darkness and Light coming to even worse blows
against the innocent than ever. Alazarn and his family fell
victim to these things exactly. A disease, one that had never
been seen before fell upon the holding his family watched,
affecting nearly all the villagers. Compassionate for the
people, Alazarn's mother and father went out to try to help
them, to heal them of their ill. While they did not contract
the disease themselves, they did become carriers, causing the
infection to spread to their only son.

Alazarn's parents searched as wide as they could for a cure for
this infection, and when they had all but given up hope, a
tottering old man came into their town. Walking with what
seemed to be little care of the disease, the man walked straight
to the castle and told the parents of the young man that he
could cure the disease of their son, but he would have to talk
to Alazarn himself first. This is what was said:

"Alazarn... listen to my words. You have a choice. I can
remove this disease from your body, but you must understand
that there will be a balance taken upon you if you accept this.
I cannot tell you of what toll it will take, because it is
different for each person, but it will happen. You must make
the decision wether you will take the risk or not.", the old
man said in a whisper.

"Heal... end... suffering... please......", Alazarn replied,
barely having the strength to say even that.

"Very well", the old man replied softly. Laying his hands
upon Alazarn's chest, the old man's hands seemed to start to
glow with a white light, one that spread all down Alazarn's
body. Alazarn himself felt a burning sensation, but was not
frightened, for he also felt strength with every ounce of
pain. Just moments after the old man touched Alazarn, he
removed his hands and sat down hard on the floor. Alazarn's
parents rushed into the room and to Alazarn's side, only to
gasp in astonishment, astonishment that quickly turned to
sadness and anger. What they saw upon Alazarn's face was
pocks left by something all along the face that was once
beautiful and reknowed. Alazarn's father turned upon the
old man in anger, yelling that the old man caused this.

"The balance... had to be paid," the old man said softly, his
breathing getting shallow. "I have given my life for your
son's, so that the balance can continue and grow within
him... he knew of the risks when he agreed to it."

The old man began to gasp, and then softly stopped breathing,
dying what seemed to be peaceful. Alazarn made a full
recovery, and the people who survived... they never looked at
Alazarn the same. They started to call him Alazarn Farce the
Scarred, a pock-faced

All my Dreams

Added Tue Oct 31 13:39:20 2006 at level 44:
All my dreams have come to pass. I have become a protector
of Balance, I have gained many titles in the ways of the
warrior, learning both the weapons of daggers and even my
bare hands. Most of all, I have come to realize that I am
still much worthwhile, even with the scars on my face, not
only to myself, the world, but the Gods also. I have been
marked by a Goddess, a beautiful Goddess. She who first
touched my face in kindness, she who brought me into the
brethren I call my own now, I have gained her mark. Now it
is my time to make the world better as I continue on my path,
until I figure out what the greatest impact I shall bring
in this world is and how it shall be accomplished.
