Description

The man before you stands with the grace and assurance of a fighter, but does not exude the raw strength that most warriors seem to. Instead, his every movement (or lack of movement) seems precisely calculated. He has a sense of unnatural calm, as well. His eyes are a deep blue, his skin bears the medium brown of a traveler who spends a fair amount of time in the sun. Beneath his various armors and accoutrements, he wears gray robes that flow easily and do not restrict any movement.

Master,
The foolish singer is no longer leading those of us who call ourselves Nexuns.
Patience, it seems, is a virtue indeed. We are now lead by two who truly embody
Balance - Iltch, a fairly impetuous one of the shadows, who is at home in civilized
environs, and Kiraan, a very slow-moving druid who seeks the solace of the wilds.

I seem to have become a fairly well-respected member of the Island.
I have found The Calm on numerous occasions, but it never lasts, as Balance seems
as fleeting as the breaking of dawn.
All is well, otherwise. I will return to continue my studies with you, eventually.

several times, but I am unable to sustain it. As you have said, it will come. And
with it, enlightenment. I send this missive to wish you well, and to inquire as to
which discipline you believe I should move toward. The guild has taught me two of
the forgotten, but you have set me forth for more. Perhaps, in time, as I embrace
The Calm, spiritual doors will open for me. Time will tell.

Rumors

Master,
The rumors are true. The legendary predecessors to our monestary - those
who began the teaching of those who taught those who taught those who
taught those who taught those who taught you and the other elders - have
in fact imparted some of their knowledge to the guild of Warriors.

The simplistic teachings I learned with you - those which I had such trouble
comprehending - have been made clear to me, now. I strike my foes as if I know
where they will go before they do. And I am able to compensate for any lack
of eyesight with a sense of the area around me, using my other senses.

Yrillbink still heads the Island, sadly. I begin to think I may need
to swallow my pride and apply despite this - perhaps the best way to
make change is from within, rather than by hoping, from without.
We shall see.

I am sorry if it disturbs you, but I cannot bring myself to join the Island, or
even introduce myself for consideration among them, while the foolish minstrel
Yrillbink leads them. His every word in writing is as nails upon a chalkboard to
me. I would never find the Calm while forced to endure following his orders.

However I do swear that I will attempt to join the Nexus, eventually. He cannot
lead (or live) forever.

The BattleRagers

Master,
All you told me of the BattleRagers was accurate. They are indeed fearsome warriors,
and full of courage, and blind hatred. They are, as you told me, misguided. They can
never read the Calm with such an irrational hatred of a force that is as much a part
of this world as the wind, or the rain.

What you did not tell me, my Master, was how enjoyable I might find fighting
alongside them. They do not know that I intend to join the Island, eventually,
or else they would likely turn against me in the midst of combat. But travel
with them has been rewarding, thus far.

I suppose in time I will be required to fight against them, and never enjoy
their company. For now, though, I will learn what I can of them, and their ways.

Senseless Doubts

Master,
As always, your wisdom and foresight are remarkable. I will admit that
I doubted your confidence in me. "An apt learner," you said. And I was
skeptical. "You will do well among the cities," you foretold. And I
scoffed. And yet, as always, my Master, you were correct. The guildmasters
have already told me that I am indeed an apt learner. I find that
I am fairly comfortable within the cities, most especially within
the walls of my adopted hometown, Galadon.

I have discovered the advantages of fighting with a staff that has
a pointy end - spears, they are called, by the guildmasters. At times,
they can be even more useful than a staff, though in general I am more
at ease with the weapon you instructed me to use.

I am nearing the time when it is time to seek the Island. I have done as you
bade me, and sought out battle wherever I could find it, with mixed results.
Good or ill in the end, however, the goal was met - hurling myself into battle
with the most seasoned adventurerers does indeed make for the best improvement
in my skill set. And it does bring me ever closer to enlightenment.

Progression

Master,
Already I progress rapidly, as you predicted. I must confess that
I was skeptical of my own ability. I have begun to feel the Calm, though my
young mind cannot maintain it for long.

I have not yet sought out the Island. I will grow much stronger indeed
before I do so. They must see value in me before they allow me to help
them preserve the Balance. Soon, though. Soon I will attempt to explain
your teachings, and I have confidence that they will grasp that one
may only attain true enlightenment within the Calm, when all is in
perfect harmony.

I have successfully enrolled in the guild of warriors, as you suggested.
They accepted me, despite my relatively low strength, without hesitation.
I suppose compared to many races, I am considered quite strong, as odd as
that may sound.

My training goes well. The guild has already augmented your teachings of
how to use a walking staff as a weapon. I am, of course, no great master
yet, but as you know, I am diligent in my studies.
