Role
Lord of Storms
Added Mon Jul 13 15:17:45 2020 at level 15:
"We can make it!" were the last words Alendross ever heard his mother speak.
Just before she was swept away by the waters. Clinging to a tree that was
being swept along with his father, he began to cry. As lightning struck and
a loud thunderous boom screamed at them, his father began to cry as well.
"I'm sorry son.We didn't know what else to do! I'm so sorry," his father
was going on when the tree slipped down as if it were on a river rapid,
dipping under only a moment and returning to the surface with only Alendross
in tow.His father was nowhere to be seen. The storm raged on and
eventually he lost consciousness gripping tightly onto the tree. When he came
to, he was on the banks of what once must have been a river with a cat-like
figure standing over him. "Mreowr. Remember the transgressions of your
parents Cub. The laws are clear if you listen."And then the figure faded
into the shadows of his memory.
Alendross's parents were Jade Elves from Lallenyha. What he doesn't know is
that they were leaving the tribe behind, and were going to sell him to
slavers in Sitran. They came over the mountains southeast of Hamsah and were
travelling along the dry river bed when Lord Ergush sent a storm against them
as punishment. The storm swept through the dry riverbed flooding it and
drowning them both. Alendross took the Lord's warning to heart and instead
of developing anger/mistrust he developed mild zealotry and devotion. He
grew up in the desert there surviving on his own and has traveled a small
amount developing a bit of wanderlust. He still feels most at home in the
desert but he likes finding new climes.
All Things are Free
Added Mon Aug 3 17:01:41 2020 at level 37:
After demonstrating his understanding of the First Law of Nature, Alendross
sought out Lord Ergush to continue learning of the laws. The Lord told him
that the Second Law, was that "All Things are Free". Well, of course. That
seemed a given to Alendross. After all he had been free most of his life
thanks in large part to the Lord Himself. Free to grow into who he was
without the oppression of a society or family. But Alendross learned that as
with all things, at least from what he can see, there was much more hiding
under the bold outline of the statement. He began to speak to others to
learn exactly what freedom meant to them. What Alendross found interesting
was how often others set barriers on the meaning of Freedom to them. His
allies in the refuge defined it as aiding them in setting fires to
civilization or to nurturing the young pups. His enemies were even more
perplexing. Magistrates seemed to compare it to survival. But survival isn't
Freedom, it just is. Freedom is Chaos.Freedom is the smell of the air when
the glorious rain hits the desert floor and sends up puffs of dust in that
rare desert storm. Freedom is Thar Eris, and Alendross will fight for all
his days to keep All Things Free.
Tribunal raids part 1
Added Thu Oct 8 09:46:04 2020 at level 51:
"Intruder! Intruder! Darreth and Exine are raiding the cabal!" The Primeval
Spirit yelled out to me, asking for assistance. I came running as fast as I
could, only to be thrown about by a swirling vortex of wind below the
Refuge. Throwing myself against it with all the weight I could muster I
finally managed to break through but it had been too long. Frantic I ran to
the Spirit's aid. A little flustered, I threw myself behind the tree in a
poor attempt to remain hidden from their view. I dashed up the lower limbs
and launched myself down towards the Digger fighting against the Spirit. In
my eager state my aim was off and I landed, burying my axe into the ground
to the left of Darreth. I flash a wide grin to the Spirit which quickly
turns to a look of confusion as electricity arcs across their skin and the
hair on my arms stands erect. I only have a moment to glance skyward as a
flash blinds me and my skin erupts with pain. A similar pillar of lightning
strikes into the Spirit as they call out in pain. I use the bright flashes
to round the tree and let my prey lose sight of me. Using the same limb I
throw myself over the side of the tree and this time drive my axes into the
shoulders of Darreth demolishing him with my onslaught. Before I can really
begin to whittle away at the dwarf another brilliant flash of light
announces the arrival of another of Exine's pillars frying my skin and
singing my hair. A cry screams out and I stare in horror as the Spirit
falls down, the fetish flying through the air towards the witch Exine who
catches it with a quick snap. I howl in rage and dance about them like a
dervish, emboldened by the falling of the Spirit. Striking blows left and
right, I am overcome with my rage and fail to realize how weak I have become
at the barrage of the elements. Lightning strikes raining all around me, I
look down at my burned and bleeding body as the ground turns white with
light. I look towards Exine, "Shi..." KRAKATHOOM! I awake in the Holy
Grove, clearly insubstantial...
Through several days of hunting the Captain, Edelrock, Arthyrr, Quanhest,
and I manage to pick and choose when to strike to fell him through the small
ones boulders and the digger's jabs with his shields. As we recuperate the
Ancient Ergush spurs us to action, invigorating us for Her cause. "This one
thinks can try for scales. Show them not afraids." He calls to us.
"Nightreaver, Harbinger, gathers and lets us fight for her freedom." Such
a bold declaration can only be met with rousing cheers and a willingness to
soldier on.
Tribunal Raids part 2
Added Thu Oct 8 09:47:33 2020 at level 51:
"Aye, Gladly" I answer to his call. Then head towards the Silverwood,
spotting the magistrates on the great Eastern road as I travel westward down
it. "They are likely heading for the Refuge," I call out.
Then the ancient suggests, "Times to strike then." Quanhest decides to stay
and protect the Spirit against their onslaught as I travel to the Spire to
aid as best I can. I rush to the Captain, kicking dirt off the floor
directly into his eyes, distracting him from my barrage of blows. It's at
this point the Ancient shows his prowess, and provides aid sending his bear
and treants against the Captain alongside him. I am filled with awe as I
watch my Lord in his element, hunting with fierce strikes. But just as he
is making short work of the Captain, and all seems to lend to us taking the
Scales... she arrives.
The witch holds her palms to the sky, and frost coalesces into tiny slivers.
Slashing out in all directions, striking Ergush all along his side and even
slamming into his treant. Awestruck I watch the gods battle just as
fervently as I watch my own battle with the Captain. And just as I hear the
Huntress cry out in her deaththroes the Captain succumbs to our assault.
Realizing I do not have time to revel in my Lord's hunt I move on to the
Executioner with Edelrock, as he cuts into it with his massive claws as he
has turned into a roaring lion. As I avoid the Executioners blows and swing
about wildly as those of the sands do when they whirl like a dervish, the
titanic scuffle finds its way to the Tribunal altar. Seeing the witch out
of the corner of my eye, I am blinded momentarily by the roar of heat and
light that rolls off of her as she TORCHES me with some sort of Nova. It
becomes apparent, the Witch has turned her attentions to ME! She begins
weaving her spells making me light, and lethargic. Armored with my faith I
fight on, watching Ergush distract her once again. I take a moments
reprieve to return to the silverwood to look for medicine, before returning
to find the Executioner half felled. Whirling around the Lion as he sinks
his claws into the guardian we manage to whittle him down, as I see the
Ancient go for the kill and rip the throat out of the Executioner. He calls
me to the Silverwood where I gather the Scales to return them to the Spirit,
who has also just fallen. Fortunately as I travel through the trees the
Nightreaver proves her prowess and hunts down the paladin holding the
fetish, returning it to where it belongs. The Spirit eyes me thoughtfully
as he takes the scales from my hand, locking them away with a grin.
She calls, and we hear. Strength and survival, difficulty and freedom. We
are Hers, and we relish in the hunt.

Neophyte of Prognostication
Added Thu Oct 8 11:04:11 2020 at level 51:
As I stare at the mark upon my chest, I look back at my meeting with the
ancient and can't help but to smile. A strange thing the way his faith in
me and his mark has altered my own view. I was far from confident.
Questioning my every action and feeling like a cub unsure of his footing.
Not knowing my way through Her and how to aid Her. But with his blessing
and his trust, I found that trust in myself. I feel more sure in my
actions. More confident in my prowess. A strange thing indeed. These
bones... How does the Ancient do it? He warned me of the dangers of seeing
too much. I respect that. I wish not to know when my cycle ends or that of
others. I have honed my instincts as he instructed. I feel confident in my
ability to read my opponents. I don't believe I've even given my body to
Her since then from reading them. As I clutch the bag of ruby-encrusted
bones to my chest I grin that wide toothy grin I have become prone to. But
I will continue to learn from him, for it fascinates me to follow in the
Storm-lords wake. I shall see if these are the bones he can bless for me,
and perhaps some day I will be able to read those omens that are safe for
mortal eyes.
The Coming Storm
Added Fri Dec 4 09:46:53 2020 at level 51:
Alendross blinked at the scattered bones before him in confusion. He had
seen many things since he first started throwing the bones. Learning the
nuances to what each placement meant had been exciting and challenging. The
wing bones here, turned this way or that. The raven skull digging into the
dirt with its beak or resting upside down warning of the treacherous storms
that would be coming overhead. But this was... unsettling. The bones laid
there, with every bit of the ruby that was encrusted over parts of them
hidden from view. From other bones, or nestled solidly into the dirt. And
together, forming a pattern almost reminiscent of smoke. But even with the
strangeness of the ruby being hidden, what was stranger still was the fact
that this was his third casting... and the third time the bones fell exactly
this way. Never had any more than a single bone or two at absolute most
fallen into the same form through multiple castings. Alendross could feel
the tale-tell signs of the migraine coming on that so often accompanied the
times he saw misfortune in the future.
"Hunt well wild ones," he said as he took to a warren in the circle of
thorns to sleep for a time. The headaches had grown worse over the last few
days since the bones fell that way. And there was an inkling of a memory.
Something seen in his dreams that he couldn't quite recall clearly. But
even with that, the sleep helped pass through the migraine. Slumber would
come.
The sudden screech of what sounded like a large predatory bird reverberated
through the Refuge. Sniffing at the air, the rabbit darted from the warren
to the hollow, looking for the Spirit there to protect it. The Spirit
grinned at the rabbit, but made no move to usher it into his embrace.
Gesturing to the sky, then to the open space outside of the Tree the Spirit
seemed to suggest, "Run. Survive." And then the cacophonous scream echoed
again as a large vulture dived down towards the thorns. And with that the
rabbit was off. Darting every which way, over stream and under branch,
always the vulture merely a moment behind. Running... running... the rabbit
ever nimble began to grow weary. It stumbled, rolling down a small hill
before colliding with... bones. Giant, ruby encrusted bones. It settled
into the palm of a skeletal hand as the vulture landed on the upstretched
fingers. Raising it's clawed talon it screeched at the rabbit...
Alendross started awake, clearly remembering every detail of the dream this
time.
Adventures in Loss
Added Fri Feb 12 12:56:56 2021 at level 51:
Alendross sits at the edge of the pool above the place he was born. But his
mind isn't there looking at the reflection in the pool as his body does. His
mind is back days past. "Maeneekoni has been cast out. Maeneekoni will be
hunted until Ergush deems" he hears his Ancient say. A deep pang hits him in
the stomach at the memory. His mentor. His oldest friend. He remembers
rushing across Her glorious wilds, searching far and wide for the betrayer.
Walking onto the island of Lord Rahsael, he found her locked in battle with
her dark shadow, Zorellaia. She turns, looks him in the eyes. And smiles as
she drops her hands, and Zorellaia's blade strikes true. "It couldn't be
you." For some reason Maeneekoni felt Alendross was the most pure of the
Outlanders. Fighting for Thar-Eris more than himself or any other thing.
After a strange time stuck on the island Rahsael granted Alendross his
freedom, having seen the Loss that was pitting his stomach as he looked
mournfully at his friend as she faded from view.
Now Alendross is at a crossroads. He studies Her ways, listening to Her
instincts and feeling Her guidance through the weather, the wilds, and his own
instincts. This has left him... hollowed. Somewhat. He is more guarded, and
more pained. Sorrow a closer ally than he has ever known. All are free to
serve Her in their way. All are free...
The Prophet of Portents
Added Wed Mar 31 11:49:53 2021 at level 51:
Alendross sat below the Tree that housed the Outlanders and grinned wide as
rain spattered across his face. He loved the soothing feel of the storms and
the bite of the whipping winds. He could feel age starting to creep into his
bones, knowing that it wouldn't be long before it weakened him further and
made it more difficult to hunt. He had learned much in his nearly seven
centuries. Listening to Her instincts had become second nature to him to such
a point, that he found himself able to call upon Her spirits. She had taught
him the ways of the animists and he had put those teachings to good use.
Hunting had been good. He had fed the abomination Itzenxilaatl to Her, the
abomination Tjur of the village, and many more in his many years. He had
heard the whispers around the campfires, referring to him as a prophet of
portents. This pleased Alendross, as a student of the Storm-Lord. But as his
lord taught him, it was less divination and more just listening. Hearing Her
instincts when Her winds blew west or south.
Enjoying the last tomatoe he had been given by the old man Panmorne, Alendross
thought hard about what he had learned from the Immortal. Time. Seasons.
Rushing the wardens to fruition had proven... well... fruitless. So he had
taken to his old ways of teaching, and biding. And as the old man said, the
wardens seem to begin to flourish. Alendross will watch, and listen to Her
for Her guidance. The Tree is strong, and he is happy for it.
