Description

Thin trails of spidery white tendrils of magic entwine the elf before you, clearly a mage of some power. His sun blonde hair is worn in a fastidious, courtly fashion favored by aristocratic elves, and deep emerald green eyes look about with confidence and appraisal. He is dressed in black silken robes that have gold trimmings on the collar, hem and sides, arcane runes and elven symbols woven into the fabric which seem to glow with enchantment. His hands are held in front of him in a casual air, and flicker and glow with flames.

Chapter 1

The elf sat within the circle of the forest wood, his eyes closed, seeking
peace amongst the life around him. Peace eluded him, even in his reverie, as
the memories of the weeks past flooded his mind, filled with blood and savage
cries, the sadness of distant kin fighting distant kin, amidst chaos and blood.
Alandorin had been part of a patrol from Darsylon, twelve strong and one of
three mages, which had been despatched to investigate word of an ancient
elven relic of ages past that rumours told, had surfaced in the emerald
forest. While fighting hellhounds and corrupt animals, they had been set upon
without cause or reason, by savage wood elves clad in little but shrieking fury
and war tattoos. His patrol slain, his spells spent, he had prepared to meet
death and be delivered to the light, when darkness overcome him in the midst
of the scent of wildflowers and cinnamon. When he awoke, the lithe form of a
dryad stood before him, full of beauty and seduction and sorrow. His wounds
cleansed and his body rested, Alandorin's heart sought peace, but found none.
Spring dawns and Summer Sings", said Derae, her voice a melodic seduction of
gentleness and passion. "Why the Outlanders slew your party, my tree and I know
not", she answered his wordless question, knowing his thoughts before he spoke. His
eyes closed and nodded, seeking the peace that eluded him.

Chapter 2

"Come, high! Tree says come!". Derae tugged at his sleeping form, and
Alandorin arose from his rest. Rubbing sleep from his eyes, he allowed himself
to be led through path and bush and trail and undergrowth, swifter than he could
if he had been alone. Derae moved as one with the woods, and her grace was as
sublime as Alandorin's discomfort. There before him lay a wood-elf, a savage of
the forest, naked, his teeth filed, his hair a growth of spikes, and his visage
one of feral hatred. He recognised the injured ranger as one who attacked his patrol
and looked at the wood-elf, who even now, gazed upon him with a strange anger that
he did not understand. Derae looked at him and gestured with a nod, a nod that
spoke volumes that she understood, expected, even desired revenge on Alandorin's
behalf. Yet it was not revenge that filled Alandorin's spirit, but one of sorrow
and forgiveness. He emptied the remainder of his healing potion into the mouth
of the savage, and gesturing to a bewildered Derae, turned and walked away. He looked
upon the dawning of the morning, and was in that moment, filled with clarity, peace,
and eternal purpose.

Chapter 3

These are the words of Alondarin Thiellenthienamas, Acolyte of the Golden Sun,
follower of Padwei, Servant of the Light and Magi of the Fortress. In seeking the
truth of the light, I was led by a dream to walk the Sands of Sorrow, where I would
seek the Sun for revelation. I walked for many weeks, depriving myself of food and
water and the comforts of magic. The brightness took my senses, and I fell into a
swoon, and there I dreamed a vision. A column of water fell from the sky, and the
water became man. A man clad in white robes with eyes blazing silver fire, in his
left hand a sword. Extending his right hand to me, holiness overcame my vision, and
I was left with a feeling of intense and magnificent peace. His fingers became
beams of light, that shone heavenwawrd, each ray then becoming two doves, one silver
and one gold. As the vision left, I pen now these words, a revelation in the Sands
of Sorrow, A Letter of Water and Joy.

Tenent of Contemplation

Growing in faith and understanding of the light in solitude is the inward effort of
the Tenent of Contemplation. Faith and Depth are the goals of this aspect. An
Acolyte should not be content with shallow answers or general phrases, but desire
growith in faith and for the light to fill one's soul. Meditation, Reflection,
Prayer, are the tools of Contemplation. It is the pondering of one's own actions
and thoughts, realising in faith that the light is beyond scripted morals or rules.
These lead to suppression or death without the faith or grace that comes from
the presence of light in one's life. The outward effort relates to the way one
translates faith, grace and wisdom, to acts and words in all things.

Tenent of Knowledge

The inward effort of the Tenent of Knowledge refers to the acts of discovery and
learning. To explore the land and understand its inhabitants, hills and valleys. It
is the principle of learning for the light. It is speaking with people, learning of
faiths, creeds, magic, tactics of war and peace, wild and evil creatures and where
they lie for the futherance of Fortress goals. The outward effort is in scribing,
record keeping and sharing the knowledge to those who serve the light.

Tenent of Service

The Tenent of Service is the aspect of servanthood to the Light. The outward effort
is the giving of time in aiding other warriors,  magi, priests of the light in their
battle against the darkness with armor, weapons, items, gold, time, healing and
resources. It also refers to the giving to and healing of the needy, orphans, the
poor, the diseased and the casualties of war. The inward effort is cultivating a
spirit of service, one of humility, self control in one's temper and words, one of
compassion and mercy, bringing healing in what we say or do.

Tenent of Protection

The inward effort of the Tenent of Protection refers to both a spiritual focus on
protection, prevention, preservation of life, support and healing in war, as
well as a tactical focus in martial training, fulfilling the roles on the field of
battle of defence, guard, healing or saving the injured, reducing the wounds
received by our allies. The outward effort is resisting the wicked, fighting
the darkness and corrupt alongside the Maran. In protecting the innocent and the
light we must at times, destroy the wicked just as in defending the sheep one must
sometimes hunt the wolf. But never forget that one is a shepherd, and not a hunter,
and balance all intentions and activities with the other Tenents.

Tenent of Guidance

The Tenent of Guidance refers to the Sharing of the Light. The inward effort is the
constant watchfulness, encouragement and guidance that Acolytes maintain over the
Maran. The outward effort refers to the speaking to all others, those of the grey
path or the wicked, that words may triumph in redemption and repentance, so sword
or fire need not be wielded. Guidance is provided without judgement, command or
condemnation. It is most effective with compassion conviction, a result of a
life lived according to the Tenents of Service and Contemplation.
