Description
A dazzling display of colors dances just before your eyes. Each wing is
well over six feet long and shines with colors ranging from bright yellows,
to dark blues, to bright orange, and everything in between. Attached to
such dazzling wings is an Arial Female. She measures 6 feet and 3 1/2
inches from head to toe.
She has bird-like tendencies, moving in short-quick bursts. She moves
with poise and purpose. Within those emerald-green, sunken-in, eyes is
an experienced Arial. Someone who has seen a battle or two. Her body is
fit and lean with a couple of ribs showing. Instead of hair, she has
white feathers coming up from the back of her neck to the top of her head.
Her feathers are longer than most Arials, as if they tell she's more
mature than other Arials.
You can just barely notice an issue with her right wing as she's in the
air, and her right shoulder is visibly malformed, although she acts like
it isn't even there. In the very center of her chest is a vertical
single strand of light. A glow so low, you'd miss it on a first glance,
but once seen, it is difficult to look away from as the Light almost
pulls you closer. A momentary fantasy, perhaps, as you continue to
examine this Avian creature. Her knuckles are worn and cracked and her
hands seem calloused and tough. On her forearms you notice some old
deep scars that look to form a pattern. One might think they were
self-inflicted.

Grounded

She remembers falling. The wind rushing past her. Confusion as she frantically tries
to right herself. She caught glimpses of the sun and the ground as she tumbled out of
the sky. At the last second, she caught a gust of air with a wing, and stopped just
short of death, on the ground. Surely, they would come. Her family had been traveling
with her. They would come... Darkness.
When she came to, there was an old human man with a bald head looking down at her.
She looked around. There was no one else. Just him.
For a time, she hoped they would return. Some sort of silly mistake. Months turned
into years and still it was only she and this human. The only one who cared for her.
He had no name that she ever knew. He was a holy man who chose to live as a beggar.
He would wander the streets of Galadon and pray. He believed that his suffering was
a way to ease the pain of others. To him, joy was a sin. And thus, they lived a
difficult life. They would fast for long periods of time and barely eat anything at
all. Around the homeless shelters, he was simply known as 'monk'.
For her part, Amriith never believed the old man's thoughts of sin and piety. She
longed to fly and to see more of the world. But she was so young. She had no one else.
One morning, Amriith dreamed something beautiful. Something she could not describe.
She witnessed a light so bright she could feel its power in her every pour. Within
this light she saw a figure. A being of pure light. And he said: "Those who would
bear the burden of blood, walk with me."
That was it. When she awoke, 'Monk' was dead. She buried him in a small plot of land
in the Galadon Graveyard. Amriith was the only one in attendance.
She turned and left that graveyard and walked into the Warrior's Guild, where she
has been welcomed. Her first goal is to hone her skills and travel the world.
Additional Thoughts
Added Sat May 1 01:18:54 2021 at level 1:
- Amriith scratches herself when she feels she has sinned or failed herself.
- Her wing is misshapen because of the fall. As well as having a misshapen shoulder.
- She has taken to trying to eat as little as possible. Probably having to do with
Monk's teachings.
- She has a tendency to *chirp* or *Squawk*.
- Her bird-like tendencies may manifest in other ways as well.

She traveled with him from sun up to sun down. She carried his bag, which
contained all of their belongings. A few robes and tattered clothes. A
soiled ragdoll. A few small bits of bread. That was all.
Amriith would fly behind Monk as he traveled his daily routine. First they
would visit the back alleys in the morning, to pray with the homeless and
down-trodden of the alleyways. Then a brief trip to a soup kitchen for a
small breakfast. Then to the docks to pray with the few homeless and wretches
of the docks. Then off to the main streets of Galadon to beg for food or
coin. Lastly, to the Galadon Homeless Shelter. Where he would drop off any
coin and spare food he had earned from the day. There they would finally
rest and train. Monk's training was more about inner strength. Focusing on
breathing and meditation, but that is a tale for another day. Amriith and
Monk did this routine every day that she had ever known him.
Amriith would watch as he would be spat on, or beaten. He would be called a
savage or a filthy beggar by men who thought themselves above him. Never
did Monk fight back. Never did he raise a fist in anger. Amriith would
sometimes get upset, herself. She would say to him: "Don't let them treat
you this way." "Fight back!" He would only look at her. In those times,
Amriith wanted to hit him, or run away. However, she had no where else to
go. She was ashamed of Monk.
Now, as she has grown, Amriith remembers something else. A time when a person
tried to spit, not on Monk, but on Amriith. She remembers Monk coming
between her and her would-be attacker. And most of all, Amriith remembers
the look in Monk's eye. A look that frightened her, and sent the assailant
running.
All these years, and Amriith finally realizes that that was the look of
someone ready to die in defense of someone they love. She realizes this, now,
because she knows what it is to be ready to die for something.
Religious Aspirations and Goals
Added Wed Jun 16 01:39:47 2021 at level 41:
Amriith has stayed true to her goal of traveling the world and honing her
skills. She has seen the vastness of the world and the many beauties it has
to offer. Though she is happy with the beauty she has seen, she knows her
life must amount to more than sight seeing. She continues to take the vision
she had of her Lord to heart. She learned her Lord's name from a long chat
with a Herald. She has decided to focus on serving the God Einoh.
Since learning the name of Lord Einoh, Amriith has been praying to him
from various holy places throughout the land. She has shyed away, thus far,
from speaking with her Lord directly because she felt she was not yet worthy
of his attention. Since then, she has come to look deep within herself to
come to a greater understanding. She feels she can progress no more without
his guidance and plans to seek out Lord Einoh.
Amriith hopes the Lord Einoh can forgive her for some issues such as an
unfortunate incident in which she paid a prostitute who had come down with
a disease. Unknown to Amriith was that giving a prostitute gold gave them
reason to whisk you away for a triss. Luckily, Amriith stopped her just as
the prostitute got her clothes off, and they had a long conversation on
lust and the virtues of abstinance.
Thamuuk, Captain of the Fortress, has given Amriith a chance as a Squire.
Amriith is very pleased by this, and plans to walk the path of a Maran in
an effort to become closer to Lord Einoh. She believes the paths walk side
by side.
New scars have accumulated on Amriith's forearms, as she feels she has sinned
on several occasions. She can be quite hard on herself, often shouting
things at herself when she feels she's let herself down. She is attempting
to work on her inner evils, but she needs guidance from her Lord.
Flashback 2
Added Wed Jul 14 19:32:17 2021 at level 51:
Monk was never a violent man. He never hit or otherwise injured Amriith. He
was, however, a very stern and serious man. With a deep and thunderous voice.
For a child, that is more than enough. Therefore, when he said it was time
to train... It was time to train!
The majority of Amriith's training happened when she and Monk returned from
their day of praying and begging. At the Homeless Shelter, Monk and Amriith
would find a quiet spot and Monk would train Amriith on breathing techniques.
Sometimes they would train like this for hours. This was Amriith's favorite
training. The time when she could really let go and relax. Sometimes she
would drift off and she would be flying high again. Of course, she would
be scolded for such fancy, but still. It was worth it.
The second most training they did was on forms. Monk was never clear on where
he learned these forms, but he claimed the secrets were ancient. A few days
out of the month, Monk would take her to Galadon's park, and there he would
show her self-defense forms that they would practice all day. Sometimes
resulting in her standing rigid, in a particular form, for hours and hours.
It was taxing work that Amriith was not fond of. Looking back, however,
she can see the benefits of learning the forms. As they are often the basis
for some of her defense.
The last bit of training dealt with the water. Amriith was terrified of it,
you see. She wouldn't even fly over it out of fear she might fall in. Monk
saw this, and insisted she must conquer this fear. And so he made her go in.
He made her go underneath the dock in Galadon and stay there in the water.
Amriith remembered it as torture. As slow motion. Trying to catch her breath.
Feeling the water weigh her wings down. The panic... The fear taking over...
Slow motion...
It took hours for Amriith to find her breath. To calm herself and tread water.
But she did. Still, to this day she has the occasional bad dream about the
water, and yet she has no fear of it while awake.
She thought that was the worst thing that could happen to her, and she
cursed Monk for it. But when that trap went off, and that child's blood
splattered all over Amriith... Slow motion... Panic... Can't breathe...
Slow Motion...
The Senseless Death of the Farmland Child
Added Wed Jul 14 19:50:56 2021 at level 51:
Much time has passed since it happened. For an Arial, that is. But to
Amriith, it was merely yesterday. She can still smell the farmlands even if
surrounded by incense. She can smell the grease from Arabrab's beard. See
the shadows move as Jexer fiddles just out of the corner of her eye.
Amriith was leading a small band of Squires and Squire-hopefuls. Facing
down the servants of death and sickness, she led her group into the farmlands
to make a stand against Evil and all that is unholy. But in her haste to
fight, she did not see the child. Given how well trained she has been, she
still doesn't quite know how she missed him.
The *click* of the trap is what first got Amriith's attention. As the trap
went off, and the spear came out, all Amriith could think was: "No!".
The world moved in slow motion. The light within Amriith faded for a time.
And the boy was struck dead. Blood spouted from the boy like a fountain.
And his eyes went white before he even hit the ground.
The fight was over, of course. The Squirelings disbanded. For they had
failed. Amriith most of all.
To say this event has devastated Amriith is an understatement. It effects her
as a Maran, as a follower of Einoh, and as a person. She has done a lot to
make amends. She has paid money to the family of the boy. She has paid for a
funeral and ceremony for the boy. She has admitted wrong doing to everyone.
And she gave up her favorite item while having a much-needed trip to see
Monk's grave. The Reason, which often drives her, tells her that she has done
all that she can. That she should move on and focus on saving whom she can.
But the truth is: there isn't a happy ending here. There isn't a bow to put
on this. She lives with PTSD from this event and it haunts her. She threw
herself into combat, sometimes dieing multiple times, over this event. She
made herself believe it was "For the Light", or her "Maran Duty" but
the truth is: some side of herself wanted to die.
Amriith has come a long way from the 'wanting to die' phase, but she is still
haunted by the event of the farmland child. She also has some much deeper
scars on her forearms that have appeared in the month's after the child's
death.
On a brighter note, Amriith now sees herself as a defender and continual
donor to the people of the farmlands. She can often be seen talking to the
farmsfolk, and giving them coin, wares, or food.
The Fortress
Added Wed Jul 14 20:07:16 2021 at level 51:
Amriith has lived the life of a Maran since she was a teenager. She walks this
path because she feels it will bring her closer to her Lord, Einoh. That has
always been her purpose. To become closer to Lord Einoh. It has never been
something she thought of as glorified work, but rather, something to be endured.
However. In the Fortress, Amriith has found something she was sure was lost.
Or to be specific: What had left her, and never returned. She had found a
family.
In the Squires, Scribes, Maran, and Acolyte she sees her brothers and sisters.
Overseen by the Lords and Ladies of the Light. Amriith has found a place she
truly belongs, and that means a hell of a lot to a child who was abandoned.
It's an odd situation, to say the least. Amriith feels comforted and supported
in many ways, now, then she never has before. But to walk this path is a burden
and always has been. She can feel the disgust of being near the taint each
and every day. Yet she is proud to fight beside her brothers and sisters. To
stand next to the Watcher and face down the sickness that exists, manifest.
This is a situation she will bring up when she next speaks to her Lord. And
she will further meditate and think on this, on her own, as well.
When the child was killed, it impacted Amriith as a Squire tremendously. She
felt she was being looked down upon and judged harshly by the people who
meant most to her. She would only show her face in the Fortress to defend
or to read the Creed.
In time, as her light began to shine again, and her relationship and
partnership in the farmlands began to grow, she was able to press forward.
She established herself as a top Squire, and soon the Lady Baerinika saw fit
to raise Amriith to Maran. Joining a Brotherhood or Sisterhood that is even
more select, still. Amriith was humbled.
For now, in addition to figuring out how she feels, within, about her place
as a Maran vs. her place as an Einoh follower, she also wants to focus on
slaying some of the greater manifestations of Evil in the lands. Great
Dragons and the like. Reason says to fight all manifestations of Evil. Great
and small.
Einoh
Added Wed Jul 14 20:22:54 2021 at level 51:
When she set her mind to finding His shrine, it was almost as if she was
being pulled. The journey through the northern mountains was pleasant and
peaceful. Amriith found herself in a meadow, and almost as if in a dream, she
happened upon a Lake with a quaint little shrine cut into the mountain. One
might even miss it, if they were careless. Amriith immediately thought of
Monk as she looked upon the humble shrine. She knelt down, and she prayed.
She prayed to her Lord, Einoh, and she humbled herself to His will. She
meditated at the Lake. Staring out over the calm waters. Listening to the
soft ripples and waves. She pondered right and wrong while meditating, and
she looked inside herself. When it became apparant that Amriith did not like
what she waw, He appeared.
Lord Einoh, with his piercing blue eyes, stood before her clad in darkened
armor. When she could finally find her breath, Amriith cried and told Lord
Einoh of her doubts and fears. It was the moment Amriith had been waiting for
for so long. And the moment did not dissappoint. Amriith was elated to talk
to her Lord and the moment is forever planted in her memory.
Their conversation was on Amriith's doubts in herself, including a doubt of
harming a goodly soul. Einoh gave her words of encouragement and tasked
Amriith with turning her eyes elsewhere to find Evil.
This was all before the child's death, however. When the child died, this
left Amriith broken and scarred. She was ashamed of herself, and therefore
felt she was unworthy of Einoh's presence.
Things have changed for Amriith though. Now that she has friendships and
relations with the farmland folk, she truly began to forgive herself. She
has returned her mind to Reason. Evil is outside and within. Right and wrong
are a choice, and Amriith plans on making the right choices.
Amriith's goals for this are to return to Einoh's shrine. To continue to
gain further understanding of Lord Einoh. To continue to answer Lord Einoh's
question, and ensure her eyes are open to all evils that may lurk.
