Description
Hair with the richness of color and shiny luster of an amber gem is braided
tightly into a single length falls behind the stunning visage of this elven
woman. She is well-dressed in an assortment of jewelry, stylish and orderly
clothing and light armors. It is apparent that this woman not only cares
about her appearance but does so in a meticulous and orderly way. It was
mentioned she is stunning, and stunning she is, like most elven women. She
is possessed of high elven cheekbones common to her race, and flawless
ivory skin smoothly contours her slim and becoming face. Light green eyes
peer out over a thin, delicate but not so pointed nose that is a perfect
match for her thin, rosy lips. She is quite often seen with a smile or a
knowing quirk to her mouth that makes her all the more alluring. She is
somewhat tall with an athletic build and moves with an ethereal confidence
that says she might be someone who is used to doing more than just standing
there an looking pretty. Lastly, she is always holding some type of
instrument, which pegs her as a musician at the very least but more likely
an adventuring bard when taking in to account her light armors and athletic
grace.

"Papa, why must I do it this way? Why must I wear the quiver to draw the arrow each time before I
shoot? Why cant I just stick the arrows in the ground in front of me and grab them as I need them?"
Annalaethina asked her father, an elven hunter, who has teaching his young daughter how to shoot a
bow and arrow out in the woods of the Vale near Darsylon.
"Because, Anny, you must practice as you would do things if it were for real. There is an order to
everything, and that order must be learned and followed so it can be practiced to mastery. It then
becomes second nature and one doesnt need to think to carry out the order. They can just act. Take
your harp for example. Do you practice the notes of a song out of order? Or do you only practice bits
and pieces of a song? Or do you try to play a song for another without first practicing it?" Her father
asked and answered her in that warm and kind way that only a father could, while seated on a log a few
yards behind where she practiced with her bow.
"No, papa, that would be silly." Annalaethina giggled back thinking to her harp. Annlaethina's parents
discovered she had a talent for song and music at an early age and encouraged her to practice. Up until
now Annalaethina did play music, but she took to it more like a hobby and not with the dedication her
parents were used to practicing in their pursuits.
"Well it is the same with this. Out on a hunt or in the face of evil, one would draw arrows from their
quiver. They would not be stuck in the ground in front of them awaiting their use. So, this is how we
must practice. Anny, I dont mean to sound like an old grump, but there is evil in this world and we elves
are a bastion of the light against that evil. It is important that we strive to become the best in those
endeavors we undertake. One never knows when our life could depend on even the smallest thing." Her
father lectured.
"I know, papa, you've told me before," Annalaethina said in that dismissive manner children often do
when their parents lecture as if to say they understand, but, they really arent listening.
And, as if the lecture were a summoning spell, one of those speak of a devil and one shall appear kind of
spells, a loud crashing noise sounded from in front of Annalaethina and to her right. Startled, she looked
over and screamed in terror as her eyes locked on a massive orc exploding out of the brush charging
straight at her with a wicked looking axe held high and bellowing some sort of warcry that chilled her to
the core.
Lessons Proven

In her panic, Annalaethina could think of nothing to do but look to her father as she screamed even
more, in fright, hoping he could come to her rescue. Terror struck her like a spike. When she thought
she couldnt be any more frightened, she found out she was wrong. The breath-taking fear and
adrenaline absolutely doubled when she saw at her father and what was coming for him from his left
side. It was another charging, howling and frothing orc.
Annalaethina was frozen in terror. Frozen as she was, somehow her mind comprehended the mortal
predicament she and her father were in. The orcs had ambushed them from both sides in a pincer tactic
and she knew instinctively that with the proximity of the orcs her father would have to choose to use his
bow between one of the two orcs. He would have to choose to either try and save himself or save his
daughter. It was terrifying. Her father briefly alleviated the fear she was feeling as she could see by
where his determined gaze was set that the choice was already made. Her father was a good and
righteous man and one hundred times out of one hundred he would choose to save another over
himself, most especially if that other were his daughter.
Time slowed for Annalaethina as she watched, still frozen in terror. Her father drew up his bow with an
arrow nocked and let it loose at the orc coming her way. She couldnt see it, but, the arrow found the
orc's eye and penetrated into its brain, killing it instantly, causing it to crash to the ground not far from
her feet. But that mattered little now. The orc coming from her fathers left was nearly atop him by now
and she knew she was about to witness his gruesome death.
In her frozen fright, she couldnt help but notice that as soon as her fathers bow twanged she saw his
hand moving to his quiver as if it had a mind of its own. With amazing speed, it grabbed an arrow before
he could even start turning to face the oncoming threat. By the time he got his body turned he had
drawn the arrow and nocked it with practiced precision. Her father rounded with the bow drawn just as
the orc savagely ran him over and Annalaethina wasnt quite sure what happened next.
Annalaethina heard the bow twang and saw the orc crash into her father with a sickening thud. As if
suddenly freed from chain shackles, the grip of terror freed itself from her and time sped up again. She
found herself running over to where her father lay. The orc was on top of him but not moving, and, as
she closed the distance she could see the tip of an arrow protruding from the back of the orcs neck. The
arrow had found its mark. Hope sparked in her.
Lessons taken to heart

"Papa!! Are you alright??"
"Yes, Anny, but I cannot move. I fear I am injured and the orc is too heavy to roll off of me. You must go
get help before we find out if these two had friends. Quickly now, run north. There should be some
elven sentries there. Tell them what happened and bring them."
Annalaethina did as her father instructed. Help came and her father was rescued and brought to a
healer. He would live and every elven sentry and hunter available would scour the Vale for the elves
could not abide orcs this close to their home.
As if the fates themselves conspired to hammer home the lessons her father had been trying to teach
her in the most obvious way, Annalaethina understood them now. She understood them as if they were
law. Had her father not been so practiced and such a master with the bow there is now way he could
ever have been able to react and get both shots off in the way he did. If he had not practiced so well
what he was preaching, they both likely would be dead.
From that day forward, Annalaethina took to her musical studies with a renewed dedication. Her talents
exploded forth from her with her dedicated efforts. Heeding her fathers instructions on evil and after
nearly witnessing his death to evil she vowed to follow in his footsteps and fight evil when she was of
age. Because of that, she not only studied her music, but, kept in shape and studied how to fight, hoping
one day to join the bards guild.
One might think by this story that her father was the only influence on her life, but that is not true. Her
mother was equally as influential, if not just more subtly so. Her mother was the scholarly sort who was
constantly pursuing the subjects that piqued her interest with a voracious appetite. This fervor for
knowledge sub-consciously rubbed off on Annalaethina as it not only instilled a curiosity and interest in
learning but helped to reinforce the lessons of dedication she learned from her father.
Not long before Annalaethina was of age to join the bard guild she talked a group of hunters into letting
her tag along on an excursion to hunt down some orcs that had been spotted near the Vale. The hunters
reluctantly agreed if she promised to just observe and stay back out of the fighting. Annalaethina
agreed. She watched as the elven hunters ambushed the orcs and to her dismay it stirred memories of
her encounter with the orcs those many years ago. It all came back so real and there was a creepy
similarity in how the elves coordinated the ambush on the orcs and how the orcs did the same to her
and her father those years ago. As soon as the action began the shock of it all wore off as she realized
that none of the orcs fought to save their comrades. They all fought to save themselves. It may have
been obvious to others but to her she saw clearly for the first time the startling differences between the
righteous and wicked. This was useful information and she wanted more.
More on Annalaethina

Realizing that if she was going to fight against evil she should actually learn more about evil. She was
going to be a bard, after all, and she should put some of those skills to use in a study of evil. If she
studied the behaviors of the wicked, perhaps even do profiles on the most prolific villains, she could
learn useful things that could be used to combat them. This was something she was going to have to
look in to.
Annalaethina is an orderly soul. Her idea of order is closer to the lessons her father taught her than of
say law and order. She knew, just like music, there was an order to everything. One just had to find it.
And once that was accomplished it could be put to use. In music, there is order. Either notes are played
with other proper tones to achieve harmony or they were not and discord occurs. It isnt difficult to
determine that discord is displeasing to the ear. It is horrible to listen to and so it must be with other
things.
Annalaethina values order in how to do things and she is a bit meticulous about her surroundings as
well. She likes to appear neat and has some obsessive tics like insisting on keeping her bags in a certain
order. Order to her is about preparation. One who is not prepared is putting their life at risk. She also
recognizes the usefulness of laws, for they protected the innocent. But to her they were more a tool. For
instance, laws in the hands of the wicked do nothing but harm the innocent and promote power of evil.
The wicked can use law and order for their own good, so in that sense law and order are really more of a
secondary concern for her.
The elves are known for their romantic music and taking from her heritage, Annalaethina prefers that
style. Romantic music is more to her than just some silly girls childish idea of falling in love with prince
charming. She is more insightful than that. Romantic music is about passion and following ones hearts
desires, so long as those desires were pure and did not harm others. It is about being dedicated to a
worthy pursuit and finding mastery and perfection in it. That was romanticism to her. Just as she
remembers back to the day her father slew the orcs. The memory of his skill and mastery that saved
their lives that day brings a tear of pride to her eye and stirs her heart to action and motivation. That is
romantic to her.
The Meaning of the Lastname
Added Tue Sep 19 18:54:31 2017 at level 21:
Annalaethinas fathers lastname was Fareiunduin. Its meaning in elvish is something along the lines of
Hunt of the Ancient River. It is a name her father was proud of for not only was he a hunter and it
literally meant to hunt but it was also an honorary given to his ancient ancestors for a great deed done.
The tale of that feat had been passed down through the generations and Annalaethina heard her father
tell it many times as a child. Perhaps one day she will retell it.
As an adventurer out in the world, Annalaethina decided to add the Nol to the front of the surname as a
homage to her father for his lessons in dedication, study and practice as it is elvish for such.
A Young Adventurer and her Talismans
Added Wed Sep 27 16:41:37 2017 at level 31:
Annalaethina had the fortune to meet the wise Lady Ishuli. She hopes to receive guidance from Ishuli in
her studies and documentations of the wicked. Even though their conversation was cut short by duty,
Annalaethina still believes that the wise lady understood her intentions and her desire to study.
As an adventurer, Annalaethina has taken an interest in magical items, finding them quite useful in her
battles against the wicked. She even learned the Librarians skill from her guildmaster in pursuit of this.
As a way to cut her teeth into her research she decided to write a short compendium entitled
Talismans for the Young Adventurer. It is a beginners guide to talismans that discusses some of the
talismans available to the young that she has found most useful. It certainly doesnt cover all talismans
one may find and she only describes their use and not how to obtain each individual talisman. She will
submit it to Ishuli, hopefully the wise lady finds it a good beginning research piece.
The Study has Begun!
Added Wed Oct 4 17:44:38 2017 at level 36:
Annalaethina had a most wonderful meeting with Ishuli. They discussed in detail her designs to study
evil and Annalaethina was able to explain that she had not changed her mind on her subject of choice
and how the compendium on talismans was just an exercise to prepare her for the much larger work
ahead.
Annalaethina left the meeting feeling motivated to begin such a daunting task, for evil is a pretty large
and far reaching subject to study. At the suggestion of Ishuli, Annalaethina began the study with a title
and introduction. It helped compartmentalize and sort the thoughts she had on the subject up to that
point. While she reserves the right to change it as she dives into the work, she feels that it was a great
starting point.
As soon as she can review it with Ishuli and get her approval, she intends to send it to the Fortress so
they understand the work she is undertaking and will speak to her about their experiences in fighting
evil.
