Role
Child found, sent to orphanage
Added Sat Nov 16 07:32:52 2019 at level 31:
The mediocre wizard Arcanubreh could have been great, had it not been for Sloth. In his
mind he envisioned himself worthy of great power, and to return to the Consortium of Mages
as the greatest of them all.
But it would mean so much work, and this exhausted him. The arcane books he managed to gain
were of minor influence and were never to the point.
So he turned to the Shadow Plane. As a casual explorer he travelled to Maethien and even Aturi
in search of anything that could help him gain the power and fame he rightly deserved.
In one of these increasingly rarer expeditions near Maethien he met a malnourshed child no more
than five years old, being drawn towards the barriers of darkness that contained the horrors
within. How the child had arrived there was unknown though it is said that vanishing children
have a tendency to be drawn into the Plane.
As Arcanubreh reluctantly rescued the cold child from entering the darkness he was faced with
the realization of how much work this would entain. The two promptly travelled to the orphanage
in Balator.
When Arcanubreh was leaving the child, still strangely cold but alive, outside the orphanage he
considered telling them of how he found the boy, that they should be careful for ones drawn to
the planes should not be left alone. An unexplainable longing can develop. Like the Plane has
chosen them and is quietly pushing them to come.
But it would be so much work! So Arcanubreh left the child.
Growing up, joining invokers guild
Added Sat Nov 16 07:38:18 2019 at level 31:
Growing up in the Orphanage the boy was given the name Antaluvion Malherion and taught the way
of kindness. From these days he started to refer to most people he met as his siblings, in his
younger days not completely understanding the difference between friend and brother or sister.
This habit stuck with him as he grew older as well.
The strange urge he sometimes had to go out into the night were thwarted by the orphanage
sisters and he learned to supress the impulse and assumed everyone suffered them. They didn't.
As he grew up he proved a diligent student and the most promising orphans who wanted were
eventually allowed to train with the Warrior School. But as Antaluvion encountered Thrym he
decided the Rage within the ancient warrior far too intimidating and he turned away. The sisters
noted and the oldest of them saw potential still in the diligent student. So he was sent to
study with the elementalist guild.
----------------------------------------------------------
As he has received so much positive reinforcement from the orphanage and later when he started
his journy within the invokers guild, studying has become a passion for Antaluvion. To pick
a subject and loose the hours in it's pursuit, is truly fulfilling. But during those early days
in invokers guild, Antaluvion understood there were limits. He certainly would experiment, but
not at the detriment of others. And he learned beccause he wanted to ... know. There were
others, with immense hunger for power. A cabal of dark mages had formed, the Scions of the
Eternal Night. What were they? What unearthly goals did they have?
As Antaluvion learned more he understood it was not enough to study, to sit back. He must take
action. To serve the Fortress of light from these who would lay waste to all of Thera, to
fulfill their plans. Determined, he started to draw up his application to the Fortress of light.
On becoming Squire and starting up research
Added Wed Nov 27 14:28:52 2019 at level 51:
As Antaluvion now stood a Suire of the Fortress, he noted some things changed, some thing didn't. For now,
plenty of practice remained for his spells. And frankly, he was torn between settling for what he had and push
out to fight the dark, and the knowledge that his Dedication to his mastery would pay off, and in the longer
run - it would be the most benificial approach.
But the logic of it was still poked by a feeling of failing to uphold his duty as a Squire. Yet, what is a
soldier with a blunt sword? A soldier, but not a very good one.
In parallell he had decided to find the Eternal Library. He was called, somehow, to study Shadow Planes. And
how better to approach this than under the guidance of the eternal Ishuli?
There had always been some sort of calling to the Shadow Plane for Antaluvion, though he had never quite
understood it. There was a key there, something greater. There war against the dark is an ongoing one, but had
been for ages. But what if there is something with the Shadow Plane? What if something can be done there that
has a significant longterm impact?
It had to be investigated.
Middle-aged man reflects on opening access to a plane

Middle-aged, turning 44. When did that happen? The years passed without him knowing
but a little belly had formed. He wasn't as agile as he once was.
But it wasn't important. What was important was that he had gained access to the
Shadow Plane! The expeditions there had been challenging but he was relieved it
it appeared one could travel the plane without risk of ones soul, at least.
There had always been something pulling him there, but he could not quite explain
it. As the Scions of the Eternal Night had resurfaced the importance of visiting
the plane had peaked.
It was fortunate that the members of the Fortress of Light eventually accepted
his study of the plane, and the assistance provided by Marshall Gruntner was
indispensable. With a scholarly approach, Antaluvion began cataloguing all

A man is tempted by evil then becomes a Maran
Added Thu Jan 2 16:36:49 2020 at level 51:
A dark voice whispered to Antaluvion when he was standing with the Watcher. It was
steep with notes of corruption, tempting him with revelations about the Shadow Plane
in exchange for ... something.
But what saved Antaluvion from the temptation was that the voice did not know the work
of research itself gave the insights value. It was not interesting to be served answers,
it was interesting to find them out, to unravel the mystery. Those seeds did not find
harbor in Antaluvions soul that time. That is to say, general help with research is
always welcome.
Just not served answers from a corrupt world of the Underworld.
Some time after that Lord Korsgaard promoted Antaluvion to Maran. No longer a young mage
but someone who has been around. Though the promotion was welcome and considered by
Antaluvion as a final proof that his research, for now, was approved by Fortress. The
dwarven Lord did deliver some word of warning on his research though.
Dangerous studies require payment and a doll makes a visit
Added Thu Jan 2 16:39:40 2020 at level 51:
It started with a strange sensation in the gut. It continued with a cold chill creeping
up the spine and fingers starting to ache. Antaluvion had just begun to feel concern
but then came the the smell, that scent that reminded him of places in the Shadow. A
clear consignor.
Perhaps it could have ended there, but as he in disbelif was pulled to look at his aching
fingernails he saw beneath them. Saw the black veins that had begun to show.
Fear came like a clawed hand grasping his heart. Not for his health, but for his research.
Would it have to be discontinued? Would the Fortress reject him now? Would he be forbidden
to enter the Shadow Plane again?
A doll appeared, spoke with him and Acolyte Elladorius. Antaluvion was wary, remembering
well the approach of the dark whispering voice. However the doll was different and did not
seem to have dark machinations in mind, nor was it surrounded by a tainted aura. It spoke
of the lessons from Aurew and it spoke of how the Fortress spent too much assuming it's
righteousness rather than talking about how to be so.
It opened some questions for Antaluvion, not the least of how a doll could possibly make
judgement on the entirety of the Fortress of Light.
Much later, when he caught his reflection in a mirror, he noticed his eyes had changed as
well. From deep forest green to a more greyish nature. He was not alarmed, rather he
documented the time with interest and examined how much of the eye was effected and that
he so far, after extended investigation, had no problems with his sight.
Killing someone of the Light, dealing with it and meeting a family
Added Sat Jan 4 10:42:29 2020 at level 51:
The crime was comitted in the High Tower of Sorcery. There were three
apprentices, Antaluvion had checked two of them. Sensed the evil within.
Reckless, he did not check the third but as he came for a rod that should
be there somewhere he simply continued channeling his soundless scream
that turned the apprentices to ash. The third, that he never checked, was
of the light.
Devastated, he pulled back to the Fortress and wrote a missive to inform
his peers of his crime. Brother Elladorius and sister Ellainaraya offered
good advice but he was still ... broken. Numb.
Restless and sensing burdened shadows appear he was pulled out to the
mists by the sea of despair. He met with a ghostly cooshee that he had
seen before. It appeared once prior to the last time they went to the
Shadow Plane. It was after that that is ... transformation began.
But the subject of their meeting was not the influence of the Shadow Plane,
instead it was how he had killed the apprentice in the High Tower of
Sorcery. Antaluvion was adviced, perhaps by the cooshee, to seek out the
family of the apprentice, to comfort them and show them the violent
blessing bestowed upon them.
Antaluvion did not agree that it was a blessing for them, but conluced
to meet them was the correct next step.
Reaching out to the administration of the High Tower of Sorcery through a
certain drunken transmuter, he was eventually able to get into contact with
the family, living by the fields of Balator.
The visit was terrible. Antaluvion, burdened by guilt was met with valid
accusations. After all he was the murderer. Could he not raise the
apprentice again they wondered? Magic? Fix this? No, Antaluvion could not.
- She is in the Azure fields now. I am told by someone who's been there
it is beautiful, he said a single tear running down his cheek as his chest
was exploding with guilt.
They had a son as well. Teenager still. He was intended to take over the
house. Antaluvion tried to speak with with him but in anger he dashed out.
- Keep him from Thrym. He will become a creature of violence of Thrym gets
ahold of him. He will become ... like me.
The parents were not interested in his oppinions nor the gold he tried to
give them.
He left their home sore. He felt nauseated and fatigued.
But perhaps it had helped a little. The pain in his blackened fingers was
throbbing. On his way back towards the Fortress of Light he recalled
brother Elladorius words, that he recommended to stay away from the
Shadow Plane, and to cease with the studies altogether for a while.
Focus on meditation and peace. Healing.
To wait with going back to the Shadow Plane Antaluvion conceded was
the right way. But he had so much in the way of field reports to
compile. Hiding his sorrow and guilt in work seemed more and more
appealing.
Unhappy Maran meets Padwei
Added Sun Jan 5 07:29:38 2020 at level 51:
Distrought, Antaluvion met with Padwei within the Fortress of Light. He presented
his crime and they discussed it at length. She highlighted it is always important
to know exactly who we are striking. We become the evil ones in the eyes of those
we are protecting when we fail.
They also discussed the studies into the Shadow Plane and the affliction that
Antaluvion was suffering. Padwei was sceptical towards the project and did not
know if there was a way to cure the darkened veins under his fingers.
She concluded that though the Shadow Plane could be dangerous it was far more
dangerous if those of the Fortress struck those of the light. Antaluvion could only
agree.
Going forward, the middle-aged elementalist will be more open with his findings
to the Fortress. In addition he will compose a text regarding the dangers of
assumption of wickedness.
As the discussion had ended Antaluvion turned back to his writing on the
Shadow Plane. His fingers ached but he welcomed the pain.
The clerical error, the tattoo and some teaching
Added Sat Jan 11 01:44:49 2020 at level 51:
Antaluvion had been in error when he met with the family of the female apprentice.
The High Tower of Sorcery sent an apprentice to the Fortress of Light.
It turns out, the student Antaluvion had slain was not a girl but a boy. The name
carried by the boy was Aldyn and he had been tortured by his fellow students. The
family of Aldyn would be in touch.
What can a man do but own up to his mistakes. Ashamed, he ventured to the girls family
and apologized. The family were not happy with his visit but still relieved from earlier
to know their daughter was safe.
Perhaps there was a way for Antaluvion to get ahold of the Aldyn family? With pained
fingers he penned a missive to the High Tower of Sorcery requesting information about
the relatives of Aldyn.
Days after his writing on the Shadow Plane was complete for submission to the Eternal
Library. The praise and mark from Lady Ishuli was soothing and as he reflected upon
his journey and work he sensed with pride his dedication had paid off, but his crime
against Alydn loomed over him as it always would.
He travelled to the Orphanage in Balator and offered his services. How could he help,
as a teacher perhaps? Jaragh, the Knight of Thera, who helped with the orphanage was
concerned to draw the ire of Thrym, but if it was handled discreet then certainly.
It felt good to be able to help others like himself. Antaluvion had no idea who his
parents were and always considered the Orphanage his home. The children were frightened
of his darkened hands but he explained it was a sacrifice his craft had required of him.
The same way a swordsman may end up cut or a baker burns a finger. Risks of the trade
but it does not take away the need for it.
