Description
Blue sapphire eyes pierce the darkness around Ardaen as
he maintains a constant dance with the shadows, full of
zeal as they betray his indomitable spirit in the light
along with the burdens of his past. Handsome features of
human origin break up the scarred canvas of his face, a
distinctive nose appearing slightly crooked as it rests
between his harsh and angular cheeks. Clad humbly in an
assortment of dark and elegant clothes, they seem to be
meticulously chosen to meld with the surrounding shadows
while concealing the various instruments of stealth and
subterfuge in the mysterious folds. A troubled past has
been painted upon him, betraying his street origins and
a questionable background in the form of scars and burns
that both temper him and imbue him with strength. Grace
lingers in his movements as he poetically and precisely
moves in silence, a shimmer in his eye a revelation for
those who would mistake him for a petty thief instead of
warrior born of the light.
Role
Ardaen of Arkham
Added Sat Nov 16 02:17:05 2019 at level 13:
Ardaen doesn't know who his parents are.
His earliest memories are of the Cathedral of the Light where he
polished the pews under the watchful eye of the neophytes. As a
young boy it drove him to act out. The insecurity of not knowing
inspired curiosity within him and he would often sneak out into
the dark and deserted streets of Arkham in hopes of discovering
himself in the world beyond.
But all he discovered was war and conflict.
Arkham was infested by night with the dark shadows that stalked
the streets. The citizens would flee into their homes, barricade
the doors and pray for their safety until the morning sun. Each
morning the cathedral bell would ring, resonating through a dark
city and welcome those of the light to worship.
The ringing of the bell would call him home to the Cathedral, to
a life of monotonous chores and polishing the pristine pews that
wept in their emptiness. If this was a Cathedral for the Light,
whom exactly was it serving?
Ardaen found more purpose on the streets and the time would soon
come where he would sneak out into the night and not return to
the Cathedral that was his home or the neophytes who raised him.
Alain Corbert's Benevolence
Added Sat Nov 16 02:21:16 2019 at level 13:
Ardaen made up his mind. It was time to go. He had watched the
suffering of Arkham for too long and stood on the sidelines of
the battlefield he did not yet understand. His confidence in his
own abilities grew as he wandered the shadowed streets at night.
And this night started like any other. He made his first stop in
at the kitchen and let his eyes adjust to the smouldering light
of the burnt out hearths. He filled his sack with vegetables and
bread intended for the beggars that shivered in the cold street
just outside these walls. He was always altruistic and fast to
see the battles of others. Will a full pack, he slipped out the
door and into the darkness.
Weaving around the shadowed figures in the markets, he stuck to
the shadows. It was no easy task, the lamps of the street were a
beacon of light, as was Alain Corbert's cottage to the south. He
was a curious man, his cottage was filled with every imaginable
piece of finery and exotic trinkets. If Alain was an example of
the benevolence of the Light then Thera was in trouble.
What Ardaen did next, he wasn't proud of. He waited until light
faded from the cottage before sneaking over and lifting a window
to gain entrance. Once inside he had every intention to steal
from the greedy old man. Just a little. Some of these artefacts
would fetch a hefty price from the right collector, the coins he
could use to sign up to the Academy.
And he did just that. Telling himself it was for a purpose and a
greater good. He could finally join a guild and receive formal
training. He could then get off the sidelines and do his part in
the war. He could finally make a difference.
Mumblings of the Badeker
Added Sat Nov 16 02:23:33 2019 at level 13:
He was on the way to the docks when he discovered a simple stone
key in his belongings. His heart froze at once, he knew exactly
the lock it was crafted for. Without a second though he doubled
back through the darkened streets and dropped down into the dark
sewers below.
The sewers were another story, a whole new plight for the people
who lived above. Cultist and undead rising from the cold earth.
He was cautious to keep himself concealed as he made his way to
the enormous door that held his curiosity for months before. Not
sure what was within, he cautiously placed the key in the lock
and held his breath.

The massive stone door opened before him and he found himself in
a gathering hall before an ageing man with a receding hair line.
The man turned and smiled a welcoming smile towards Ardaen, his
large aquiline nose casting an intimidating shadow in the torch
light. He began to mumble foreign sentences, speaking the names
of the old gods with praises or curses as he paced the gathering
hall. And then he mentioned a name that hung with unspoken power
in the air. Shokai the Skyborn. The Silver Lord of Retribution.
Ardaen lingered, listening with bewilderment to the stories and
tales of the Badeker. Hours he must have sat there but when he
finally left, he left with an invigorated purpose. He had to see
this Fortress for himself and discover more about the Maran who
selflessly fought for the protection of Thera and for a victory
against the darkness.
But first - the Academy.
Forged for Shadows
Added Thu Nov 21 04:11:24 2019 at level 27:
The Academy wasn't kind to Ardaen. While he had the stealth and
deftness to remain safe back in Arkham, he lacked a real finesse
to join the Warrior's Guild. He tried. He failed. And he emerged
physically beaten and battered for his efforts. He could still
hear the other students laughing as he left, suggesting that his
ability to defend their attacks with his face would make him the
perfect candidate to become an orcish berserker.
But Ardaen was stubborn, if nothing else. His heart knew all the
struggles of his old home town and he fortified himself. Instead
of struggling through the forge of the Warrior, he found himself
leaning on his natural abilities in subterfuge. The shadows were
a place of welcoming to him, he refined his talents and learned
some new tricks before graduating into Thera as a fully fledged
thief.
He was a little lost when he jumped headfirst into the fray. His
battle wasn't so much about feeding the hungry while avoiding the
neophytes and cathedral guards anymore, his battle was real. And
it was real messy! He sat there trembling while he watched the
blood of Dhrak stain the High Tower of Sorcery's floor after he
followed a trail of carnage and destruction from the outskirt of
Galadon. He knew what he had done was righteous, he just didn't
yet understand the toll of war.
He sighed to himself and slipped into the shadows. He would make
his way to the Fortress and pledge before the Maran Tara'bal. But
first he would seek out the council of the wise old man known to
mortals as Panmorne. He hoped to discover and to understand the
trials and tribulations of war, as well as his place in all this
chaos, brutality and bloodshed...
Before it was too late.
