Description

Wild auburn hair flows with a wild abandon as it cascades down her back, but whether that speaks to this wood-elves free spirit or lack of organization, is left up to the eye of the beholder. Her physique and form are lean and tough. If it's from performing, you guess her art is more than simple song and harp. Yet she is also too graceful and performative to have the physique of a simple warrior.

Yuletide Eve

Arietta begrudgingly moved her daily training from the crowded Shrine of the
Battleragers, seeking out the spacious and mostly bare-walled Hut of
Remembrance on the village's northern side. She looked around, twirling her
staff, as she began the Song and Dance of War that was her daily dedication.

The Yuletide Eve spirit was all around the village, but she simply wasn't
feeling it. The huts were strung in torchlight with care. And the smell of
Grimes venison unfortunately hung in the air. Those not at the Destructor
were snuggled in bed, while visions of dead mages danced in their head.

She had a new song long overdue to master, and so she began to hum the
Haunting Rhapsody.

She began the words while her staff spun and her voice sang alone,
unaccompanied in her dance, "Mangled minds and broken souls bewitched
across the moor"... but the new song echoed back in the empty hut and
suddenly her world shifted.

Visions of Yuletide Past

In her mind, she was transported to her past and before her stood her mother,
trying to teach her the animist magic that came so naturally to her mother, but
not Arietta. Night after night, day after day, to the neglect of all else.
Yet the magic would not come.

The scene shifted and Arietta was surrounded by kids her age, shoved and
pushed, laying broken on the ground, bullied and unable to defend herself
from lack of physical training her mother neglected.

She cried out to her father, and in this strange reality that was her
Haunting Rhapsody, she saw her father as she last remembered him. The
gluttonous priest of Morius who could no longer move, her father, was deaf
to her pleas. Kicks rained down upon Arietta and yet he did nothing.

Desperately she sought for the next line: "Fight with them and die with
them, your fate you will ensure"... and she stepped into the present, still
trapped in her mind's vision.

Visions of Yuletide Present

Arietta looked upon a not very jolly old giant, towering there before her. It
was the Destructor and his Dance of Battle was pure mastery. Seamlessly, he
switched between weapons as easy as the wind, and his techniques flowed and
adapted with each new weapon. Countless ages of training, the cumulation of
dedication in the art of Combat, were on display. And as mage after mage
approached him, his courage never faltered.

So different than the frail child that was her past, the Destructor was an
inspiration. What she had lacked in dedication, training, and courage, he
exemplified as he fought all that dare come before him.

Suddenly, the Destructor turned to her. But said nothing.

Dressed only in his loincloth and poncho, the destructor raised his right arm
and out from his poncho stepped a child of the village where there were no
children.  It feasted on blood and meat, and grew fat like a cherub version
of her long dead father. It tried to lift a weapon, but soon gorged on food
again instead.

Raising his left arm, out stepped nothing. Instead, a sleeping child of the
village where there were no children lay contorted beneath the destructors
side. The child was feeble, lazy, and useless.

Then the Destructor said, "Beware these children. On this one is written
gluttony and all who would feast on life without temperance. And on this one,
is the mark of sloth. All that is useless and all that is complacent with the
world around them."

Arietta backed away, the words coming to her: "See them with your eyes just
as you see them in your mind"... and the world shifted to that which was
yet to come.

Visions of Yuletide Yet to Come

Arietta was on an ancient battlefield, but not just any battlefield. It was the
sacred terrain of the Rights of War. A place she had never been, yet clearly
laid out before her now beyond the locked southern gates of the village.

And the world was shattered. Perpetual night hung in the air, but unnaturally
so and shadow dominated every corner of the ancient battlefield.

Then the shrieking began as nightwalkers soared across the skies and shadowy
druktrars stepped out from every crevice in the ancient terrain of these
sacred village grounds. Arietta ran to the highest vantage point and looked
out across the land.

Forsaken Portals dotted the landscape in all directions. Only discernable by
spots too black to exist among mere darkness and shadow. The world was
overran and her world as she knew it gone forever.

She had failed. They all had failed. And now the nightwalkers began to circle
in the skies above her like a flock of a thousand in a twister of terror. And
then they descended.

She screamed, stumbling down the hillside, and the final words came to her:
"Fight or flee, it is your choice, but they'll stay with you in kind!"

And she woke.

Yuletide Morning!

Arietta sprang up from where she had fallen asleep in the Hunt of
Remembrance. What day was it? Was it Yuletide morning!? She dashed south to
the Blood Square.

Was that a child in the village!? What was a child doing in the village of
the battleragers!? Oh wait, no, it was just a little gnome villager!

"Oh you beautiful, little gnome!" Arietta cried out with uncharacteristic joy
spreading across her face.

"Here is five gold! I need you to fetch something for me...do you know
the...", Arietta began.

The gnome cut her off asking, "The large prize venison in Grimes
shop!?".

"Uh, no..." Arietta corrected. "The poncho hanging up to dry at the
door of my hut!"

Eagerly the gnome nodded, wise enough to please a village bard and soon
returned with the poncho in hand.

Arietta began to laugh and added a new jig to her repertoire of dance. "I
know not what to do. I am as delighted as a defender. As boundless as a
berserker. As spirited as a scout!"

It was said that on that day, Arietta kept Yuletide as well as any of them,
gifting the world with no magic as she removed it from all she came across.

And though some laughed at her dedication of holiday cheer even outside the
yuletide season, as she spread to all the gift of no magic, she was never
visited by her visions again!

The Flawless Path (Part 1)

Arietta approached down the alley way from where she had spoken the ancient words
to Tahren, approaching the towering commander they called Ravln. Her adrenaline rushed
like only battle could make it as she sought audience.

The commander nodded, a big grin on his face, and she was welcomed into the village of
huts beyond the giant. It was exhilarating!

Then Ravln said, "Welcome! Any path but berserker..yeah?" And Arietta's heart sank.

"But why?" She asked...and the giant's response, "Bards can not be berserkers...yeah?"

Arietta paused for a moment. "Can I wait before I choose?" she finally asked. Ravln
thought for a moment...then nodded.

So Arietta did the next best thing she new after her Dance of War and Song of Battle
began to scout for the other villagers. It wasn't long before she came across an outlander
mage hero and immediately reported his whereabouts. He looked at her curiously, then started
laughing! Next she came across two acolyte mages sitting at the fortress gates with two
paladin. So she immediately reported to her village the mages locations. Suddenly, everyone
started glaring at her... and realization sunk in. She had spoken aloud her scouting
reports again!

A transmuter popped out of duo, coldly saying. "You are a HORRIBLE scout, Arietta!"

And so Arietta returned to the village, hoping the next day would go better.

The Flawless Path (Part 2)

Arietta woke to the sound of a gathering in the village's Herb-coverd Hearth and arrived
arrived just in time to find Rhuean and Armitage beginning defender training! She took
her place among the circle of students and begin to follow their instructions and quick and
dextrous use of bandages and poultices.  She was so dextrous, could pluck any string, and
as nimble as any dancer, so she knew this should go well!

Suddenly, the pair through down a dwarf bleeding out in front of her. "Alright", Rhuean said,
"Let's see you bandage the applicant before he's a goner!"

Easy! Arietta thought...this was going to...OH MY GODS...where were her bandages? Where did
she places the bandages! She had JUST had them. Were they in her sack? Under her boat?
Searching searching....why did she carry so many instruments and weapons... and now she
was making a disorganized mess of everything! "Oh, huh," Armitage said, "I think the dwarf is
actually going to bleed out." Arietta had to do something, did she already pull those 10
tins of fruit out of her sack? There was a poultice, she'd improvide and bandage with a.."Nope!"
Rhuean said, "A poultice is not a bandage." Why were poultices so much easier to find
than bandages!? There was now blood everywhere!

SO MUCH DWARF BLOOD! "We've got this, Arietta, why don't you go... kill some mages.."


And so Arietta returned to her hut, and sunk into the dedication and peace of her War Dance and
Battle song, hoping the weeks ahead would go better.

The Flawless Path (Part 3)

Days went by. Those days became weeks. And Arietta did the one thing she knew: The Dance of War and
the Song of Battle.  And with the dedication and that perfect craft of war and song, so came
the dead mages for Arietta, the Pathless Villager.

Arietta sat at the destructor between another long back and forth siege when the Commander
walked in, staring her down. He sat silently, then simply said..."Arietta kill many mages...yeah?"

Arietta looked up in surprise. "What, oh, me!? Umm, well, now that you mention, well yes!" Ugh,
she sounded so stupid! How could she flick out a verse, and sound so stupid in front of the
commander!?

Then Ravln said... "So Arietta choose berserker? Yeah?"

Arietta looked behind her. Silly! There is ONLY ONE Arietta in the village! Turning back she said,
"Yeaaaah... Of course I did...umm am...I mean did!"

Ravln nodded. "Good."

Arietta nodded. "Good."

As Ravln turned and walked away, Arietta scrambled to the nearest group of berserkers to try to fit
in, but she was content, for she had found her path in the village, and it felt right. It felt flawless!
