Role
Family

Arigan the gnome was the thirteenth child of a family of gnomes living in
Hillcrest. His father and mother always spoke of how they wished a large
family when they were growing up. Even after Arigan was born, his parents
still had two more children after him. His family was always full of joy and
life because of the amount of bustle and movement in their house.
As Arigan grew, he developed into the one who saw the most humor in life out
of his entire family. When something would go wrong or cause a problem,
Arigan was always the one who would cut the thick air with a well placed
knife of a joke about something. Arigan never realized how this made him a
unknowing moderator in what small family turmoils his kin had, but he
smoothly stepped into that role.
When Arigan matured into his fifties, he had long realized his role in the
family and decided he would expand that role to help others in the world as
well. He found a true passion in healing and apprenticed to a healer in
Hillcrest. Arigan took to the art like a wild gnome, learning everything
from herbary to the divine arts of tending wounds as best he could.
Eventually, his master in Hillcrest decided he could teach him nothing more
and suggested he join the healer's guild for expanded learning.
Arigan told his family. As his family always was, they supported him in his
ideas and endeavors. His father, a wise gnome for many years, took him aside
after dinner the night Arigan told them and gave him two things. The first,
a pouch of coins for a trip to go to Galadon to join the guild there.
Second, a piece of paper that he was not to open until he reached Galadon and
started his training.
The Paper
Added Mon Jan 9 15:03:53 2012 at level 1:
Arigan had a mostly uneventful trip to Galadon. He saw some things on the
way such as robbery and murder shown by a corpse naked on the side of the
road, but none of this happened to him.He went by these things as quickly
as he could, trying not to cause any reason for someone to attack him.
Finally, he reached the city of Galadon, moving as fast as possible to get to
the safety of the healer's guild, and got himself enrolled. As he entered
the room he was given he took the piece of paper out of his pocket.
Waiting for a moment, just feeling the paper between his hands, he thought
long about his trip and his family. Finally, he took the paper in one hand
and gently opened it, realizing how much during the trip from Hillcrest it
had become a part of him. As he opened it, he expected many words on it from
his family, but that was not what was to be. Instead, in the middle of the
folded paper, was the number 13.
Arigan was puzzled beyond belief, so much so that he just continued to look
at the paper for nearly half the night.Over the next few weeks, he thought
about it nearly constantly. Finally, he decided he could not stand it
anymore. He went to his teachers and asked them if they knew any reason why
his father would have given him a piece of paper only with the number 13 on
it. When asked, he was suprised when they answered him with open smiles.
They told him of a Lord in the heavens who's followers and himself were
obsessed with the enigma, the mystery, of the number thirteen. They named
him Whysidan, and suggested that perhaps his father was pointing him in a
direction. Arigan took this to heart, deciding that when the time was right,
he would let the number 13 lead him to this Whysidan.
Preaching while Drunk is still Preaching
Added Fri Jan 27 12:36:40 2012 at level 47:
As Arigan grew older in his guild, he sought often and far to find greater
understanding of the mysteries of Courage and Wisdom, as Passion was his
prime path himself. He had found these things in himself, having the Courage
to follows his Passions, not just in his continual drinking, but in his
ability to step out and take the brunt of an attack on himself after saying
or doing what he felt needed to be done. He realized that this Courage
needed to be tempered with Wisdom, the wisdom to know when to advance or
retreat, the wisdom to know when you are walking to your death or when you
will be able to retreat without issue.
Arigan began trying to impart these teachings to others. No matter what
Passions another felt, these were ideals that anyone could follow. He
started first with Kalash. Kalasah came to Arigan and companions while
fighting under the water and told them how he was nearing his last death and
was going to be giving away his things. After some talking, Kalash decided
he would go out and pick fights with some of the Villagers in a seemingly
reckless manner. When Arigan counseled caution and temperance to his
Courage, Kalasah replied saying only "I can't change being me".Arigan
stated simply that he did not wish to change anyone from their Passions and
that he respected the Courage Kalash showed walking into what was probably
going to be a deathtrap, or possibly even seeking his own last breath, but
stated only that Kalash needed to keep Wisdom tempering that Courage so he
could continue following his Passion. This ordeal opened a whole new outlook
onto what knowledge Arigan could give to others.
The Story of TumbleBrook
Added Thu Feb 9 15:27:20 2012 at level 51:
The last name of the healer named Arigan came from his almost always contsant
drunken state. He stood one day, admiring the nature near a brook of
bubbling water, a mug of ale in his hand. As one who tried to find all the
joy and fun in life, he would sometimes wobble his way through a little
dance. Someone must have been watching him, because a sound erupted behind
him and before he could get his feet beneath him, he went tumbling into the
brook. From the bushes behind him, a yell sounded out "Well done,
TumbleBrook!" Arigan came up out of the water spluttering, his drunken state
roused by the water rushing over his head, looking about for the attack on
his pride, then laughed and just continued his enjoyment, remembering the
name TumbleBrook after that and adopting it to himself.
Drunken Speech
Added Thu Feb 16 12:56:00 2012 at level 51:
Because of the many years that Arigan has sought out and continued his
passion for alcohol, his speech has taken on patterns that are not normal for
gnomes, especially when drunk. While he sounds normal in the few times of
day that he is not drunk, when he is drunk, his speech patterns are more of a
country bumpkin. This does not seem to phase Arigan, truth be told, he
doens't even seem to notice it's happening.
