Description
Lean and foxy-looking, this felar has a coat of midnight black, with only
his paws being off-white. His age is vague, but probably still more on the
younger side. Various wands and scroll tubes hanging from his belt suggest
that he is a magic user, but his fitness and confidence of movement betray
a certain degree of martial experience as well. He keeps his clothing very
loose, allowing for transformation spells to improve his physical form at
a moment's notice. His eyes are pale yellow with a sharp look to them, and
his twitchy ears show constant alertness. Looking him over you notice that

Aronar's backstory
Added Wed Feb 13 08:42:09 2013 at level 20:
Aronar is a felar hailing from snow-filled winterlands. Smart and curious,
he was fascinated with the tales of the realms, and dreamed to live his life
outside simple bounds of his home. He sought the luxuries and delights the
world had to offer, any he could get his paws on via wealth, charm or force.
To fund his exploits he has become an adventurer, and lately a new endeavor
has taken his mind: magic. He saw in it a fast track to achieving his goals,
and later became obsessed with the idea of longer life.
The necromantic arts could bring everlasting life to those who master them.
Transmuters, masters of body and mind, could arguably find a way to combat
aging. Invokers could strive to achieve elemental transcendence. A conjurer
might be able to ask otherworldly beings for help with prolonging his life.
All those were appealing... but that's where things didn't go Aronar's way.
The only guild of mages that would accept him was a lesser guild that
specialized in the art of shapeshifting. Grudgingly he has entered study
there, hoping to gain the acceptance of others as he went up the ranks. But
his attitude, or perhaps just his lack of talent prevented him from ever
bringing himself to full transformation, providing him only a meager career.
He usually tells others that his natural form "is better anyway", and, fact
is, he does take great pride in his good looks and health.
He is very touchy about being too weak with magic, and holds severe grudges
against guilds of necromancers, transmuters, invokers and conjurers. This
also gave ground for his other obsession, combating whatever he perceives as
injustice or prejudice against his race. He sees kindred spirits in people
who are oppressed but struggling and has a strong, if flawed, sense of right
and wrong to live by. He will generally regard other felar well.
Aronar's recent thoughts
Added Fri Feb 22 10:12:24 2013 at level 38:
Been told by an ally, also a reject of the necromancers' guild, that it's
foolish to shun magi of other schools just because one was thrown out.
Guildmasters, sure, but apprentices one could travel with, looking to gain
valuable knowledge on their skills right in the field.
Perhaps he would angrily refute such arguments when he was a shallow youth,
but now, having matured, he is somewhat wiser. As he has never learned to
fully shapeshift and believes delusionally that his talents are predisposed
for necromancy and transmutation, the thought that he may be able to pick
up knowledge in these areas appeals to him.
His relationships with cabals remain sketchy, but he has established himself
an enemy of the Empire, and of course the Fortress. He mostly sees cabals as
obtrusive organizations looking to impose their ways upon others - which is,
in his eyes, unjust and unacceptable. Heralds might be the sole exception.
Aronar's research
Added Tue Feb 26 04:19:26 2013 at level 44:
Aronar's studies on the matter of aging produced limited results. He has
sought to study anatomy of the most long-lived race, high elves, to try and
determine the source of their longevity. He did some dissections, but is so
far struggling at obtaining a strong specimen, let alone a live one.
His current belief is that the secret of elven longevity lies in the magical
nature of their race. Contrasting common belief, he attributes elves with
having some sort of magical fey blood - which may also be the "true" reason
why elves are harmed by cold iron.
Dwarves and their kin, on the other hand, draw their longevity from sheer
toughness and are not ageless, and thus are of no use as test subjects.
As felar were once created with magic, he concludes, they can be modified
further, their blood infused with the same spark as elves, so that they too
become ageless. He is planning an expedition to the valley of Veran to find
bits of knowledge that might help with researching this better.
He feels it extremely wrong that his entire species is barred both from the
blessing of long life and from learning the secrets of all areas of magic -
and challenging that injustice remains his foremost passion.
Sowing the seeds
Added Wed Mar 13 05:39:17 2013 at level 51:
Having persevered his way towards becoming a hero of the realms, mastered
the spells avaliable to him, secured the needed artifacts and collected
enough funds to get started, he embarks upon making his dream come true.
He establishes a hideout, far from civilization, far from the eyes of forces
of Light who would surely seek to stop him. It's rough and simple, but draws
no attention and thus his creations will have a chance to live past infancy.
He hires mercenaries to steal elven children and arranges for them to be
brought to his lab. Similarly, it's not hard to get a few litters of felar
cubs to receive experimental treatment. Most will die. Noone will miss them.
The scale is small, funded only by his adventuring profits. The secrecy is
great. And if anyone catches on... they are to be fooled into thinking this
isn't anything more than an amateurish magic school run by a crazed felar.
This latter situation is unfortunate - Aronar would rather do his research
openly and be proud of it - but it matters more for him that it actually
might get completed as it goes now. Future generations will thank him later.
