Description
The centaur male that has come across your field of vision has
several notable features. From the waist up he appears to be a
very muscular and handsome man. He typically wears light armors
for travel though in times of battle heavier armor clanking around
in a large rucksack over his torso can be quickly donned. His hair
is long and sleek, hanging down his back in waves of monochromatic
gray. It has no luster or shine and seems to absorb more light
than it reflects. His facial features range from flat and
expressionless to jubilant and bright depending on his current
mood. His eyes are the same colorless shade of gray as his hair,
making him seem indifferent at times he may be joyous or angry.
Across his chest is a necklace with a fist sized pouch attached
to it. The pouch has several tiny holes in the bottom of it and what
appears to be tiny seeds spill forth from the bottom as he moves
around, several still caught on his chest armor.
The equine form below his waist is a mixture of color. Large white
and faint brown spots intermix over the torso, rear, and hind legs.
Over the white and brown is a dappling of flat gray, dampening the
colors of the vibrant white and light brown in a nearly unnatural
and certainly odd way. The forehooves and rear hooves are all dull
and dusty gray, even if polished. He moves quickly and gracefully
when in motion, surprising for his bulk and size. He carries several
weapons slung in a unique multi-sheathed wooden frame that he
can easily turn and gather up and wield. The most notable are a
series of several long polearms strapped tightly to the wooden
contraption.
Role
A Bloody and Dark Arrival
Added Sun Mar 31 06:04:22 2024 at level 1:
The Centaur race has always been notorious for their passion and warfare, often
making the most motivated soldiers. It is no surprise then that the centaurs
were one of the few remaining races that continue to guard the ancient city
located in what is now known as the Shadow Plane. Gone are the days of
aristocracy and civility in this now shattered kingdom, all has been taken over
by a darkness that will likely never be brought back to light. Fierce hunters
and protectors still, the centaur of this place are made up of small bands
purely focused on survival. Feral and passionless, the dullness of Shadow has
worn away any sense of purity or goodness within them. Colorless and without
emotion, they guard their clans from foul creatures and the fierce living
nightmares that crept in centuries ago for reasons long forgotten.
Ganorior (unknown father of Artahgnain) was one of these Centaur. He lived his
life from youth to adulthood in a constant state of heightened awareness for
survival. He learned to fight and to hunt, but he always ached for something
missing. It felt like a piece of his very soul had been removed long ago, before
his birth, and he ached to make it whole. Yet his environment made him as
passionless and unfeeling as the others, so such yearning was deep beneath the
surface of his self awareness.
A rare feeling overcame him during a hunt. The nightwalker he had been pursuing
was swift and small, but he and his band were faster still. This hunt would end
differently and change his fate, and potentially the fate of Thera. A very
unique situation presented itself to he and two others as they were closing in
on the nightwalker. An oddly swirling portal opened just before the shadowy
creature. It was small but he ducked and leaped, tucking his legs under him. He
disappeared, followed by a member of his band. A third attempted to bolt through
as well but the portal winked out while he was only half through, his back legs
and tail were cleanly severed and as they twitched they were the only sign left
that any had passed through the now darkened area.
A Bloody and Dark Arrival (II)
Added Sun Mar 31 06:07:28 2024 at level 1:
A flurry of motion surprised the darkly clad sorcerer as he finished his
summons. Through his summoning portal sprung a small nightwalker, as expected,
but it was also followed by a large Centaur that began striking it with a gray
handled axe as it fled. Turning in confusion to watch the spectacle he missed
his one chance to avoid the second large centaur that sprawled into him,
knocking him flat to the ground and nearly trampling him. With the utterance of
arcane words and a frantic gesturing, the centaur burst into flames and screamed
loudly as he turned and launched himself back at the sorcerer. The front half of
the last centaur fell through the portal as it winked out of existence, dead on
arrival. The battles did not last long. The nightwalker, second centaur, and
sorcerer all succumbed to a quick death. One centaur remained, Ganorior, who was
very, very far from home.
It took many weeks of silent and stealthy travel through an unfamiliar landscape
before Ganorior encountered others like him. During his travel he killed any he
had stumbled upon, treating every encounter as he would on his home plane. When
he did encounter a group of centaur, it was with great unease. Their distrust
and tenseness was the result of his most unusual appearance. His skin was gray,
his coat was gray, everything about him but the blood collected from his
murderous engagements was colorless and unnatural. But still they took him in
and welcomed him as a guest, if guardedly. Artahngain's mother was far too
curious and beautiful for her own good. She was trusting and naive, having never
ventured out of her home woodlands. To Ganorior she looked like a goddess, full
of vibrant colors, deep and instinctually passionate scents, and absolute
irresistibility. She snuck to him alone to try and figure out from where he
came, and what the outside world was like. On his home plane of Shadow the feral
nature and brutal upbringing did not allow or include permission or consent for
physical engagement. Her screams woke the village. Ganorior was overrun swiftly.
He was confused and angry, fighting back after being knocked to the ground. He
was cut down very quickly to never rise again.
A Bleak Start
Added Sun Mar 31 06:12:09 2024 at level 1:
Seasons passed and Ganorior's actions resulted in the female being with child.
An uneasiness surrounded the pregnancy. His mother had nightmares of the child
growing within her womb. Most rutting seasons ended in joyous celebration and
each birth was met with the same. Artahgnain's birth was a quiet affair for the
village, save for the event itself. The birthing process was far more painful
than it should have been, her screams went on for hours, giving over to
exhaustion. The druid tending her was very worried and knew something drastic
would have to be done, her healing powers could only help so much. Yet as if by
miracle his mother pushed with all she had, expelling from her womb what would
be whispered for years later as an abomination. The creature was gnarled and
scaly, with claws and spikes. It had useless pitiful looking wings on its torso.
Luckily it did not live, it breathed weakly one time then shuddered and passed
to death. His mother had passed as well. The entire ordeal was one of utter
bleakness, yet as the druidess began to clean his mother she noticed a small
gray hoof.
Thus was Artahgnain brought into the world of Thera.
He himself had no deformities, but his coloring was off. He had large brown and
white spots like his mother, but a dappling of dull monochrome gray that seemed
to absorb the color around it. His hair as well was gray like his fathers. His
entire existence was a sullen and bleak reminder of the villages brush with the
dark encounter. As a foal he was shown no love and weaned off his surrogate
mother far too early. He was given into the care of a passing human ranger who
was kind and curious enough to agree to the burden. His birthplace would never
be known to him, his family or any sense of belonging to his own kind was
unattainable and denied to him.
Emotionless and Deeply Passionate
Added Sun Mar 31 06:15:49 2024 at level 1:
The ranger that took him in was named Harper, but Artahgnain would call him
father. Harper taught him the basics of surviving in the wilds, but had no
experience with how to apply his own wilderness stealth techniques to a centaur.
As a foal aging into into youth he was a very moody and emotional child. At
times he was carefree and happy, curious and inquisitive, but randomly he would
fall into fits of apathy and brooding without warning. These dark spells turned
him into an entirely different creature and sometimes lasted days, but would
always shift to an even temperament given enough time.
When Artahngain was old enough he set out on his own. He is not entirely sure of
himself or his path. He was told the story of his birth and knows he will never
be accepted at his home village even if he knew where it was. He hesitates to
get close to other centaur and avoids them, though he craves acceptance among
them more than anything. During his high times of good spirits he revels in the
beauty of the natural world. The vivid colors of the flowers, the smells of pine
and rivers, the sounds of songbirds and buzzing bees, he absorbs it all as a
near religious experience. But those times are fleeting and never last and he
falls back to normalcy just as quickly as he is overcome by the wonders of life.
Character Traits/Character Summary: Artahngain the Centaur

vibrancy of his mother
- Centaurs he was born into wanted nothing to do with him, gave him to a ranger human
- Raised by human ranger away from other centaurs, taught basics of survival.
- Is tied to the veil of magic. Thin veil = father's traits/Thick Veil =
mother's traits
- When his mother's traits are pushing through be feels vibrant and full of life, reveling in the beauty of the world, thus sphere Beauty, father's traits leave him apathetic to all spiritual things.
(see below)
Character Traits:
Artahngain will have three specific personality types based on the veil of
magic.
Through his father's corrupted seed he is tied to the Shadow Plane.
When the veil is thin and magic flows freely in and out of the world his bond to
the Shadow Plane will be the strongest. He will be uncaring, apathetic, and
emotionless during these times. He will do whatever duties he has found but with
little motivation. He will not be pleasant to be around.
When the veil is normal his dark moods will come and go, but not nearly as
strong. He will have a care for things important to him and live life day to day
with an appropriate amount of motivation.
When the veil is thick and the ties to magic are at their weakest or
non-existent he will be a kind and soulful creature that celebrates the beauty
of life. He will revel in the joys of the natural world and feel true ties to
the Light and life all around.
Eventually he will make the connection between his own life and feelings and the
veil of magic. This will likely lead him to the Battlerager Village where he may
find acceptance and family.
His spiritual focus will remain on beauty and he will help others see the
natural beauty of the world's true form uncorrupted by magic. He will point out
the weakness and illusion magic brings to sorcerers who are otherwise powerless
without it.
DISCLAIMER
Added Sun Mar 31 06:18:35 2024 at level 1:
I the player understand Sennosori's religion is not open to neutral followers
and pursuing the religion will lead to a dead end. Artahngain the character will
not see this and will seek acceptance among the goddess of Centaurs and her
daughters, to his own peril. He may show up drunk and angry during dark times,
he may show up full of light and life during bright times, I accept any negative
interactions (or none at all) that result from this.
Drifting Thoughts
Added Fri Apr 5 04:27:46 2024 at level 28:
Oh fecund mother,
The glossy grasses part like cool silken carpet as I wander the plains near your
home. I feel the damp soil beneath my hooves and smell the cleansing air that
cannot be tainted for it's spacious and open glory. The sky is blue and clear
here and there is a serenity and belonging I only glimpse on the rarest of
occasions. The flowers are vibrant and call out to the bees which compliment
their floral aroma with a friendly buzzing of welcome and life. The call of the
herd is so strong here, I see the hoof marks of those who came before me and
there is a silly longing to trot in just the same spots and dents in the earth.
Oh but this is what it is like to feel free and alive.
Yet even as I stand I see at the corners of my vision fleeting glimpses of
shadows gathering. The veil of magic is breaking once more. The tainted tendrils
begin to spill inside the world, tugging at me and pulling my vision away from
that which is pure and good, that which brings me closer to you. I will leave
your plains then with my gift, a trophy taken from one who was slaughtering
elves and bringing the horrors of necromancy upon them. The shadows did not
protect them, and now their body will feed the soil near your tree and sustain
the life beneath. Back to my village then, and my open-aired hut I've made for
myself. To be a part of a village is, a start, but it is not the same sense of
belonging I find when envisioning myself running behind you. It is not a herd. I
can observe the others, and watch their movements to better learn to fight, to
hunt and stalk. Those like Hrendy-...
The shadows are gathered. I stare at the ground beneath myself, sitting in quiet
silence, alone and ceasing my contemplation and thoughts of you. I deserve this
silence for cowardice. I swing my hammers and bludgeon the blood and brains from
my enemies like some crude and mad killer but cannot find the courage to call to
you. I do not know if I even belong here in this hut or if I should wander away
like before, surely these people will turn on me like all before them. I see
others of our kind on occasion, but always it is the same quick glance at me,
they sense something about me is off, and they make it known I am not welcome,
or leave my vision entirely. The shadows have brought a deep and horrible cold
once more and I cannot gather my thoughts. The veil of magic is torn completely
and something not of this world tugs me into depths of weighty despair that
would crush me if I did not cease feeling completely. My thoughts of you dampen
then quiet all together. The shadows have gathered and darkness drowns me once
more.
