Description
Two tall hilts stick out from either shoulder of the female elf here.
Her light blonde hair is pulled into two braids that begin just behind
her pointed ears to fall over each broad shoulder. The subtle glow of a
fair face is framed by her bangs and loose wisps of shorter hairs. High
cheekbones and softly pointed chin give her a delicate touch that is
dispelled by her toned and athletic physique. Her vibrant eyes are the
color of the ocean, a mesmerizing blend of blue and green that seem to
shift with the light. They are framed by long lashes under thin and
delicately arched eyebrows. She stands at just over six feet in height,
most of the length from her rangy legs. She wears an assortment of
well-fitted armor that masks much of her bosom under the marks of battle.
Despite the sign of obvious use, her armor and weapons are kept in good
condition.

Childhood

A shout of 'Nyra' rang through the streets of Voralian City. A young
elven girl sighed before leaving her friends and heading back to the
small shack she called home. Her mother, Zinfiel, quickly had Nyra begin
boiling water as she spoke reassuringly to the young woman on their
floor about to give birth. Many hours later a quiet cry pierced the
middle of the night to announce the presence of a new child. Aserunyra
was finally allowed to collapse into a deep sleep, but was soon woken
by the break of dawn and the start of her lessons. Hours of studying
writing, reading, and numbers were required before she could run the
streets with the other children. They were a ragtag bunch with dwarves,
elves, and humans all running side be side in similar linen clothes
with more than a few holes visible.
Aserunyra did not understand why her mother was so content in their
shack with barely enough to get by. She admitted the nobility of caring
for the poor with her mother's skills and light touch of healing. Still,
Zinfiel would be welcomed to work alongside the other healers in the
Cathedral. Everytime she brought this up with her mother, Nyra was told
that the coin they accepted would not bring them happiness. It was hard
to hear this while dressed poorly and being made fun of by the children
of the nobles.
Aserunyra was a sweet child with a quick mind and friendly temperament.
She was the one that brought her group of friends together and kept the
peace between them. It was an odd childhood as she aged so much slower
than some that human children came and left as young adults while she
still learned of the world. Sometimes she would read books that called
her people haughty, but could never comprehend how that could apply to
her mother or her.
Promise

Many years passed where everything was both the same and constantly
changing for Aserunyra. She had spent over a hundred years in Voralian
helping her mom, studying, and learning of the people of their city. She
was nearing a time when she would make the decisions for herself. She
already stayed out longer and roamed further than she had. It has caused
a few fights but even her mother knew the time was coming and simply
wished her to keep safe when she left.
One night, that was both similar as any of the thousands that had passed
before and as completely unique as to any that would ever happen again,
she found herself getting in a bit late. She pushed the crooked door
open and found a her mother gasping for breath lying in a pool of her
own blood.Adrenalin began to rush into her but one glance was enough to
see that they were alone. The first words out of her mouth were 'Who?!'
but her mother was quick to beckon her close and began to whisper to her.
'There is not much time, my time has come my dear Nyra. Who does not
matter. What you must know is that every pain of hunger and want you
experienced was so that you would not be like our kind. You would not
think yourself better. Your father that I would never tell you of is
a noble of Darsylon, Aumanas Eyndrethrossi.'
Her breathing began to become more panicked as she realized that her
mother was dying. The rest of the implications failed to hit her. Tears
began to fall as she kneeled next to her mother waiting for the last
breath to flee. Suddenly strength entered her mother's voice as she
said 'Nyra, promise me you will never become what he is. Coins are to
be used, not sought after, not fought for.' Aserunyra quickly promised
but her mom began to cry. 'No, say the words Nrya.' She knew from her
studies what she wished and would not deny her mother's dying wish. She
quickly said the promise she would give her, though it was her own words.
'I, Aserunyra, will never allow coins to be my focus.' A strange feeling
settled over her that she quickly forgot about as her mother took her
last breath. She collapsed in tears that wracked her so hard that she
struggled to breath.
Vision

Days, weeks, even years passed but the now consistent force in her was
that a sudden pain would come over. It could be something that reminded
her of her mother, or it could simply be that it had been too long. She
would find the pain as fresh as if the same day as her soul yearned out
for the touch of her mother. The only change that came with time was that
she experienced this less often as time passed. Aserunyra had gradually
found that she did not want to be a midwife as her mother had been.
She found the pain of their small shack too painful and soon set to sell
it. She found someone willing to buy it and was about to shake hands when
a blinding pain entered her and she lost all sight of him and his hand he
had outstretched. A shining figure stands above where he was with angelic
wings stretched upon the form so small as to have to be a child. She had
almost broken her promise without realizing it. She closed her eyes for a
moment and realized she could not do that. After she opened her eyes, she
could see again. She apologized profusely as she told him she could not
sell it to him.

Aserunyra wandered the streets until she found a young pregnant woman
sleeping fitfully against a wall. She gently woke her and brought her to
live in the shack Nyra once hated. It wasn't much, but it was more than
the woman had. As Nyra walked out the crude door and away from her past
an elderly man adorned in metal armor waited in front of her. He spoke
with a soft voice and said 'That was a kind act you just did.' Aserunyra
was a little surprised but his demeanor left her at ease. She just
shrugged and said 'It was what my mother would have wanted.' He smiled
and said 'Yes, Zinfiel gave all she could and more. I am glad to see it
is not lost to you.'. This surprised her at first but then she must admit
her mother was well known. He continued 'Please come, I would like you
show you a place that I think would suit you well.'
Nyra found the walls of the Paladin guild to be intimidating at first
until she saw the words of the Code upon the wall. Tears began to fall
down her cheeks as many reminded her so much of her mother. She lost
herself to the training within the walls, her natural athletic ability
that had never truly had an outlet emerged. She was fierce with a sword
in her hand and after jokingly being told to keep to the light ones,
found the two-handed blades felt natural to her. The jokes ended when
she adopted the heavy plate with the large blades and showed herself as
fierce as any of the larger races there. It was not just training for
her body, it was for the mind and soul as well. Nyra found herself wanting
to do more than her mother had been able, and with her talents found the
Paladin Code's fifth ideal resounding within her. Fight and exact justice
for all worthy causes. She would do so and seek out this angelic child
and learn more of the promise she had made and the power of it over her.
Reflection

Aserunyra took what was becoming a rare moment to breath as she looked
around at the Fortress she now called home. She had been welcomed there
with open arms and quickly found many friends that she enjoyed speaking
with at length. It helped that her Lady Azorinne guided so much of her
learning to be from understanding how others thought. Nyra often found
herself reaching out to listen to others that she did not think the rest
of the squires would wish to speak to. She found that while she was fully
committed to being a Squire and one day aimed to be worthy of being a
Maran, she was not so different than many of the Scribes or Acolytes.
Perhaps she did not fit cleanly on either pathway, but hoped she walked
well enough on both to please those that lead.
She had never quite imagined that she would be a fierce holy knight that
led others into battle and did her best to get them out safely. It was
not without a cost, and there were times she needed to meditate to both
let herself absord the death she caused and the death of those who fell
around her. She tried to remember her vow to her Lady and remember the
justice she brought for those of the Light that could not do so
themselves. She rarely found herself of ill temper, but some of the
recent fueding with the Spire had truly gotten under her skin. Nyra
believed that laws were there to help keep order, but that one must be
able to cleanly understand the laws so that if they wanted to follow
them they could. It is why she was irritated so much by her gaining
what she believed to be a false warrant by Mistrirn. She had not meant
to break a law, they simply applied a law outside of the Jurisdictions
that were commonly known to be limited to. She had been careful sense,
but had a struggle to keep herself and those who followed the Code
respectful of the Tribunals. She truly felt they were manipulating the
law to make them apply more places so that could do as they pleased
and give warrants to those they did not like.
Embracing the Past, Studies

Nyra had thought long and hard about whether she would go and find her
father. She had entered Darsylon many times but was never seen as more
than another adventurer. She had never formally claimed the name of her
father, but at times it felt odd to see so many others with a family
name. She cared deeply for her ties to her past as at times it felt
like it slipped away. Aserunyra decided to adopt the last name, of her
father and that which her mother had but never claimed. She would be
Aserunyra Eyndrethrossi. Perhaps one day others would know her by this,
or perhaps it would only be herself that claimed it. She did know that
she would make sure this family name would be linked to her kindness and
willingness to help others, not to the wealth and prestige of her father.
She also decided to dedicate herself more firmly to her studies. She had
lost herself in progression and learning, but still was far from mastery
in many of the prayers given to her by her Lady. She was so blessed to
know the inner learnings of faith and temperance, but knew she would need
to continue to strengthen herself. The Light shown brightly, but that sense
of peace was when it was easy to find oneself lax and unready for what may
come. She would be ready.
