Description

A tall weather beaten half-elf stands here. His skin is tanned by the sun and burned by the wind. He has lost some of the luster of youth but is still in peak condition and is clearly accustomed to hardship His hair is a rich golden blonde that cascades from his pate before splashin over his thick shoulders and coming to rest across his shoulder blades on his broad back. His furrowed brow sits over steely gray eyes that look outward as if seeking the next adventure or challenge but with kindness when they look o another. When one looks closely at his hands, they can see that his palms and wrists are scared horribly as if burned in a hot fire.

Role

Auldr's roots.

Added Sun Dec 16 14:17:52 2012 at level 26:
Auldr Was orphaned on the streets of Hamsah Mu'Tazz at a very young age. He was
gathered up and sent north to Balator where he spent time in the orphanage
learning to read and write. But a terrible massacre perpetrated by Imperials
slaughtered nearly all he knew. Only he and a half-elven girl he had taken to
carring for like a little sister managed to escape and hide in the graveyard.

The two of them would likely have been killed as well but a thick fog rolled
over the graves and hid the two children from sight. As the two children
huddled in terror a black raven landed on the tombstone they hid behind and
cocked an appraising eye at them.

"I finks I hears sumfin." came a guttural voice belonging to a hulking giant.

"No Gutrag, it's just that damn raven. Bad omen, let's get I think we had
enough fun for now."

"Aw, okay boss." was the response and in moments the two of them were gone.

Auldr and Aymie hid for hours, to scared to even approach the citizens that
eventually gathered around the ruins of the orphanage.

"They can't protect us Aymie," Auldr finally said. "Let's go back to Hamsah
Mu'Tazz, the Imperials won't hurt us there."

A few days latter the two children found themselves begging on the streets of
Hamsah Mu'Tazz. A week after that they were stealing from vendors on the dock.
A month after that Aymie was gone. She simply walked away to get some food and
when Auldr looked over at her he saw two men seize her and pull her into a
wagon that then thundered off at a full gallop. No shouts of alarm, no screams
joined his panicked cris as he ran for all his worth after the wagon. She just
was simply gone and he never saw her again. He knew she'd been taken by slavers
and never a day goes by when he doesn't cringe at her fate.

Many tears and several days later he was in a cell in the Sultan's jail. He'd
been caught stealing and was now shackled in iron to the wall. His wrists
blistered and chaffed horribly as he wailed in misery. For a week he was there
and was scheduled to have one of his hands cut off, but his infection from the
iron grew so great it was thought he would lose both hands to rot so in a rare
moment of mercy he was released.

Auldr's deeper roots.

Added Sun Dec 16 14:18:40 2012 at level 26:
When he was, he was met outside of the jail by two tall silent men in the light
robes of Bedouins. They took them gently into their custody and layed him in a
covered wagon and ministered to his injuries. He was delirious but he felt the
warm working of magic as it mended his wrists and body back to health.

The heat was oppressive in the wagon when he woke in the company of two
half-elven men. They were monks, rangers really, from a temple that allowed
only half-elves into their midst. They weren't cruel, nor did they have great
expectations. They simply took him as one of their own and fed and clothed him
with the simple expectation that he contribute to the survival of their colony.

Their colony was hidden far from the beaten path in a hidden oasis of fens and
reeds beyond the sight of men. In that sun blasted realm was a pocked of life,
a rug of verdant green that was little more than five miles on a side. In this
place Auldr grew to manhood and learned the arts of survival in this
combination of living and dead land.

With the teachings and guidance of the others he came to understand the roots
of fae magic's and was able to draw upon the land in times of need. It was this
sensitivity to natural magic that attuned him to the presence of a sunken
menhir. In the bottom of a deep pool he dove and found it, covered with a layer
of muck but with glyphs still easily readable. Glyphs of the sun and moon and
of a raven. When he went to wipe it away a blinding flash jolted him and sent
him reeling and floating to the surface with barely enough strength to make it
to shore and pull half his body on to shore.

Auldr pulls up his roots.

Added Sun Dec 16 14:21:43 2012 at level 26:
As he lay there he dreamed. It was as if he were taken to the beginning of
time, light swirling in an empty void that was peppered with spheres of rock
and blazing stars. Around one of these rocks the light gathered and settled,
soaking into it's soil. From the dead soil, life erupted, algae, then moss,
then ferns, and trees, then grasses. Among the plants walked odd creatures,
alien at first but as the dream rolled on, the creatures began to change into
forms he knew. Worms became fish, fish became salamanders, salamanders into
lizards, from them split into other shapes, draco-forms and great wooly beasts
and eventually the upright race of men. All the while each of these things,
plant and animal alike was tethered to the earth with the ethereal vespers of
light that Auldr came to realize was the ether of magic. But there were some
things that held their own magics. Earliest on it was the draco forms. The
greatest of them held their own magic, then latter as they faded away, some of
the upright figures pulled their feet free of the sphere and soared over all
others holding the filaments of magic in their fists weaving the ether about
and the world began to take the form it had in Auldr's time. But before the
dream ended all but a few of the weavers disappeared. Some were entangled in
their own magic and were pulled into the earth or ripped apart, others simply
vanished or were absorbed, eaten if you will by other weavers.

As their numbers dwindled, their weavings began to fray and their creations run
amok. The surface of Thera, for indeedit was Thera, became pitted and over run.
And as Aulder watched, each injury done to it by humanity and it's off shoots
severed a filament and the world would fade.

Soon he was seeing a time past when he was alive and the world was a black,
lifeless husk, littered with the skeletons of the life that once was, dead
heards of cattle, broken buildings that might have been miles high when they
stood, and fell magical storms wracking the surface of all life no matter how
small.

Something had happened where man had sought to separate himself from the land
and the magic that had created him and it destroyed him.

The dream ended and as Auldr began to wake, he thought for a moment his mother
was swathing his forehead with a damp cloth and for another moment that he
could hear Aymie giggling somewhere nearby and then he was awake.

From that day forward he found himself able to manipulate the ether that he was
able to siphon through the veil with ease. Perhaps not the ease of a wizard,
but easy enough. And his body and mind both grew to great health. Then a day
came and he sensed that he needed to be somewhere else. Where exactly he didn't
know, but he knew it wasn't in the marshland of his adopted home and so he
left.

Within his sight.

Added Sun Dec 16 14:22:01 2012 at level 26:
This is where we find our adventurer now trekking across the realms following
the scent of the seasons and the filaments of magic and the voices of the
spirits that walk the realms just unseen by people.

He knows of the Ancients and the Outlanders and his path is such that he will
soon arrive at the roots of their ancient tree.

Aulder and the Insane do not mix.

Added Sat Jan 5 18:08:48 2013 at level 51:
As his prime stat is wisdom, he tends to be rational and people that act
insanely are unsettling to him. Mor often than not the insane have been quite
wicked in his experience.
This is why he rejected Bahm as he thinks it's crazy that an obviously male
dwarf would think he is female. As an example.

The natives are no longer restless.

Added Thu Jan 17 12:15:54 2013 at level 51:
The current crop of Outlanders appear to Auldr to be thriving. But like any good farmer he never leaves them untended.
He has been taking time to speak to them each one on one and ponders ways to challenge them to be better as people and what they do. The question is, beyond praise how does one reward another in the harsh realm of Thar Eris.

Immortal Comments

Date Level Hours Author Comment
31 26 An Immortal An Immortal added 400 exp for: RPing with Rostrak in Amaranthe's shrine about paladins and Outlander.
33 40 An Immortal An Immortal added 1500 exp for: Nicely written role about a boy from the orphanage that is forced to steal in the streets of Hamsah, imprisoned, almost dies, and then nursed back to health by bedouins who teach him about natural healing.
51 90 An Immortal An Immortal added 1000 exp for: For Sunwarden/Ancient/Outlander Lore RP.
51 90 Amaranthe Constructive feedback if you ever read this Auldr: check your note formats, and every time you use an apostrophe to pluralize, a kitten dies.
51 114 Amaranthe Impulsively booted Nyst due to being unclear on the limits of power. Sun Ancients were unbothered by the action, but nothing prevented the Dark Ancients from undoing it and immediately making her Nightreaver
51 114 Amaranthe Needless to say, he's been made clear on the unintended consequences of being reactionary outside his assigned sphere of influence.
51 114 Amaranthe (And, for the record, Auldr is taking this Sunwarden thing with massive enthusiasm that I don't want to discourage, but I had to reign him in a little.)
51 127 Whiysdan I dig the warcry: 'Ancient oaths for a new dawn! Into the ground with those who defile their Mother!'. Very fitting for a sunwarden. thumbsup!
51 128 Rayihn He found me one of the boxes that promised to teach a spell, on Daev's suggestion I gave him virescent mist.
51 290 Baerinika I see a lot of positives in this character, the cool anti-litterbug stuff, the all around great concept and serious follow through on RP principals. However, there are some glaring faults that are coming through in a bad way som
51 290 Baerinika sometimes. Outlander =/ Empire. You shouldn't toss people cause you don't like them. That's not really goodie behavior, imho.
51 338 Lian Entered the January 2013 RC. Having read the role, I'm curious how this guy, raised by bedouins, ended up a marshdweller.
51 398 Daevryn I think this is a pretty decent character but generally a terrible cabal leader.
