Description

A powerful taurine head rests atop a pair of massive humanoid shoulders in a gross juxtaposition of man and beast. Cunning red eyes and ebon horns shot with silver make for a demonic appearance. His mane is a gloriously glossy black. Legs like tree trunks end in cloven hooves which rake the ground almost involuntarily. His muscular body is covered in short, black hair, though an unusual white marking around the mouth and throat gives him the wizened look of a bearded ancient. He is clad in a myriad of different armors. Though none are part of a matching set, each looks to be well-maintained, as if this minotaur took a special interest in their appearance. For all the outward care of his appearance, however, he seems indifferent toward the mixture of mucus and drool dripping from his bovine nose as he pants audibly. Squarely situated in the center of his forehead is the mark of the ruby scarab.

large number of offspring so that his bloodline will best endure.
Method: Other minotaurs are to be hunted ruthlessly.
Method: Avoid killing human females (including PCs) if at all possible.
Method: Grow in power so as to dominate his species and eliminate potential
rivals for mating privileges.

Background

Background: Born in the typical fashion in Seantryn Modan, Aurtu forcibly
extricated himself from the still quivering, bloody abdomen of his dying
mother through Will alone. His handlers intended to use him as a stud to
create more minotaur servants. Upon reaching adolescence, they began to bring
Aurtu women with whom he could breed. Most of whom they brought, however,
were the dregs of society: whores, runts and malnourished beggars. To add
insult to injury, the handlers picked and chose which of the minotaurs would
breed with these filth based on favoritism rather than strength and power.
The result was a weak, mewling waste. Though Aurtu himself sired many young,
all were weak in his eyes due to poor stock on the female side. The well-fed
and beautiful courtesans who associated with the handlers were strictly
off-limits, frustrating Aurtu to no end.

In a rage, the minotaur escaped his confines, killing several of his
handlers. One, he found in the arms of a courtesan whom he had admired
greatly. In a savage lust, he forced himself upon her with the intent of
starting a new, pure bloodline that very night. Perhaps it was the exuberance
in his newfound freedom, or perhaps her poor body was not worthy of the
strain... either way, Aurtu's bloodline was not to be continued that day, as
the woman died during the ordeal.

With a bellow of rage and triumph, Aurtu stalked off into the night.

Continuing to Grow

Added Mon Jul 14 10:29:54 2014 at level 31:

1. Acceptance. Having been blessed by the Father, it was easy for me to
convince the Voice of my rightful place in the Cult. I grow, but I remain
inexperienced in the eyes of my guildmasters. I think that has something to
do with the others of the Cult seeing me as a youth. Even so, my power comes
directly from Him. My Will is exerted through His blessing. As the only
priest of the Cult, I must overcome the others' perceptions. Their eyes may
be opened, but they are not touched by the Father as I have been. I must be
more assertive in my mannerisms if I am to assume a place of leadership.

2. Talks with the Voice. Quarissa was extremely helpful in helping me find my
way in my early years in the Temple. Her expectations of me were to assist
her in spreading the word to the Profane whether by speech or by destruction.
I at first thought that she was grooming me to be her successor, but my
bull's mouth cannot properly form words. Many I try to speak with choose to
ignore me rather than attempt a conversation. The Voice recommended I ask a
boon of the Father to make my speech more articulate. I will keep that in
mind for the future if I am granted such an opportunity. In the meantime, the
Father has presented a different avenue to leadership in the Cult. Quarissa
is both wise and strong. It is a shame she is well past childbearing age. The
potential of my child by her womb would be limitless.

3. Interactions with the Father. I made a number of blood sacrifices to the
Father in His mausoleum. After my most recent, the Father's voice whispered
to me. He promised to make me the Flame if I prayed to Him above the corpse
of a Maran. This, I will endeavor to do. The Maran Captain is as strong in
body as he is weak in spirit. I must grow more and be cunning in order to
earn my place as Flame. A second item of note, which I believe to be tied to
the Father's promise, my offerings are consumed by fire upon the shattered
remains of His altar. Whether this has to do with me becoming the Flame or if
there is a deeper meaning, I do not yet know. The Voice thinks it is because
I am favored by the Father, but no more. I will be attentive to more clues.

Becoming the Beast

When I last spoke with the Father, I had asked him for a boon. As his priest,
I once sought to be His Voice, preaching the Sacraa and awakening Thera's
blind sleepers. The way my mouth is formed prevented me from speaking a clear
Truth, and I wished for it to be fixed. I thought such to be my Will. It was
not the Father's. Though I do not remember His exact words, their meaning
resonates throughout my soul: Embrace your birthright. You were born a beast!
Be one!

I will not be the Father's Voice. I know that now. I must indeed revel in
being the primal beast as I was born.

I must ask Father more about the Great Wild Beast. Before she died, the Voice
was not permitted to speak of it, though the Eye has been more forthcoming.
Still, his answers are in the abstract. I need to know!
