Description

You see a tall and slender azure-touched man, yet unbowed by age or lasting wound. A thick of head of hair, gently radiating hints of celestial essences through the golden brown-color, is arranged in a thick and layered style, the kind of tumbled hair which might take hours to get right. His attire, visible beneath an assortment of light armor, hints at high social status - thin bands of soft lace are visible from beneath his armor and clothing at his wrists and neck. His face, the skin increasingly pulled taut over it, yet glowing with an internal holiness, lacks the refinement of the truly well-bred, his cheekbones a little too low, his nose a little too wide, and his lips just barely too thick, the difference between the fastest stallion of a farming outpost and the fastest of the Sultan of Hamsah Mutazz's racehorses - invisible to most, and all an expert could see. His eyes, a piercing and bright gold, have their perfection marred by radiating jags of jet black running through them. Unnoticeable at a distance, up close they are striking, though bearing reminder to a shattered plate, imperfectly pushed back together, the cracks still visible and prominent in the whole. Thin lines radiate out from the corners of his eyes, echoing the black lines within them.

The Origin of Aynri Gault

Born to a OneHeart tribe east of Udgaard, Aynri spent his youth in relative
peace. Skirmishes and raids with the jaette patrollers aside, it was a quiet,
isolated life, and Aynri was happy with this. Things changed, when his body
merged with the soul of archon. The OneHearts, their sympathies with the
Outlanders of Thar-Eris, sent him into the mountains alone  to what end
was not clear. Instead, the boy was taken captive by a renegade OneHeart band
in the mountains, which saw his celestial ties as a tool to be used. 

For years, Aynri was kept by the OneHeart band as a font of spiritual
cleansing. Their confessions, transgressions, and misdeeds were tattooed
across his body. . . And the daily beatings slowly caused the litany of sins
to fade. When they did not beat him, they slathered him in poisonous salves
and fed him toxic compounds, which felt as nothing so much as setting his
skin and organs aflame. In what could only be described as a perverted
intertwining of a celestial belief structure and the precepts of Thar-Eris,
they believed the azure-touched absorbed their sins and negated them, a
ritual which would become complete upon his return to the Azure Fields.

Aynri was saved from this ritual execution by an Imperial Bloodoath patrol.
And then saved from more bloody-minded members of that patrol by a young
dark-elven shaman, who did not agree with the needless bloodshed, for that
was the part of the feral and uncivilized. Instead, Aynri was sent first to
Udgaard, where he was distrusted and reviled by the Jaettes as he ran
messages for the Udgaardian court, and later Galadon, where he earned coin
polishing the arms and armor of the city guard.

Over the years of this mundane task, Aynri took advantage of opportunities to
run messages for the Magistrates and learned as he could the duties and
privileges of the Blood Tribunal. Additionally, he as developed a deep and
abiding appreciation for money (and that which might be bought with it), and
the importance of the safety and security of stout city walls and stouter
hearts to defend them.

In the dark and quiet, or as quiet as Galadon becomes at night, Aynri
frequently thought of the darkness he was kept in by the OneHearts, the
enclosures, huts, and caves he spent his days and nights in. And in that
darkness, flashes of visions from the Azure Fields perhaps, memories of
sitting in judgement of others of the Light, an archon of Judgement and Law,
holding others of the Light to the highest standards. Memories, or delusions
ushered in from pain and exhaustion, he does not know.

Now grown, Aynri has been consumed by a desire to understand the many laws,
codes, and creeds of Thera. The laws of the Empire and the Blood Tribunal are
both the law, but speak to different things. The Paladins have their
Code. Even the Outlanders of Thar-Eris have a decree of commandments. The
idea of many laws puzzles Aynri, and he wishes to learn more.

Success, and Concern Regarding the Future

Aynri has found success undreamed of in his childhood. Despite this, he is
troubled by his incomplete writings upon The Law, and his own place in the
world. The Magistrates of the Spire skew heavily towards those with dark
hearts, and Aynri worries alone in the dark of the night, he is placing 
mortal law before divine law. He quiets his worries with a reminder these are
mortal lands, and The Law is mortal law.

Too often, the so-called champions of the Light are quicker to bring combat 
and chaos within the city walls than those of darker hearts. The recent 
attacks by Aulauthar against the Spire itself leave him concerned he will be 
forced to choose between Light and Order  and fears for the celestial 
portion of his soul if it should come to that.

He journeyed recently to the very edges of the Inferno, and stood near Charon
for a moment to consider that possible future. It troubles him, but would 
consider it a worthy sacrifice if doing set continued to keep the cities safe
and secure, and the innocents within protected from trouble and strife. Aynri
has taken to carrying a blessed obulus, should it come to it.

Though his current writings on The Law are yet incomplete, Aynri has 
identified a new project to address: a clear and short description of The 
Law, so that none will be surprised when they find themselves with a warrant 
of death from the Blood Tribunal.
