Description

A giant of bright ocean blue skin looms before you, standing at fourteen feet this giant is slightly taller than average. Taller than most makes it leaner than you would expect but still huge. Judging by his physique you can clearly see that this giant is male, muscles bunch and slide under his skin whenever makes the smallest of movements. Yet in contrast his skin draws taut due to all the scar tissue and scars that crisscross his hands, arms, and body. Dark green eyes are imbedded into his face like gems, and they seem to sparkle whenever the light hits them just right. Dark seaweed green hair is pulled into a ponytail and is draped over a shoulder where it hangs just below his shoulder line. When he sits still he seems more like a statue come to life and yet when he moves, he moves with a grace that only giants would envy. A second glance and you notice...

A Fateful Decision

A very young Baelen Raines happened to be accepted into the Guard of his King, a year earlier than
all others before him. He was expected to be Captain of the Guard in little time, within just a
few years actually. One fateful day he drew the shortest lot and ended up with the duty to guard
the holy shrine of their kingdom.

It should be mentioned that while most of the guard was diligent throughout most of their duties,
it was during this one particular duty that most guards relaxed. Guarding the shrine of their kingdom
was boring, they were under water with no one to really attack them., and so no one had in a very
a long time. And yet, the shrine was always and must always have at least one guard, so that one
guard, this day, happened to be Baelen Raines.

During this moment Baelen had taken to relaxing and not worrying about much when all of a sudden
on this day, he heard muffled explosions through the water and the sounds of fighting drifted
through the water and tunnels of the palace to his ears. Knowing that he was the only guard he
weighed the decisions in his mind, potentially let the palace fall and guard the shrine or he could
abandon his post and help keep the palace out of hostile hands. Without thinking much on it he
decided for the greater good and abandoned his post to help hold the palace against the offenders.
With his aid they were able to hold their positions and keep the intruding force out and finally
managed to shove them back and scatter them. However when he returned to the shrine he found it
defaced and devastated with his Captain and his King standing there, his Captain giving him a look
of understanding and sadness while the King was red with rage.

Exile

Added Sat Dec 14 23:51:00 2013 at level 16:

The next day after the attack, although Baelen aided his brothers in arms to push back the enemy
and keep them from taking the palace, he abandoned his post. The King would accept nothing less
than ten lashes in the public square and for him to be relieved of duty without consideration of
re-entry to the Guards for the abandonment of his post. Also, because he allowed a holy shrine to
to be defaced and damaged his further punishment was exile from the under water kingdom. The king
allowed Baelen twenty-four hours to leave or be killed, taking what he had left, which was not much
to begin with, he left the only home he ever knew, yet he was not sad, nor angry.

He was filled with a determination and thought to himself that although his King refused to see the
good he accomplished by allowing a mere physical thing be destroyed, he saved lives. His determination
filled him and has caused him to come to mainlands of Thera and seek out his fortune, as well as
do what good he can for the world and others, seeking out those like-minded he knew that the Fortress
of Light was his next goal. To gain entry as a Squire and prove to his former King and kingdom that
the greater good is what truly matters and not materialistic things.

While on his way to Voralia, which he had heard was as good as any place to start out in Thera,
not to mention that it was fairly close to the Fortress, he ran into a group of caravan guards who
guarding a merchantman's carts and wagon's to Hamsah. He traveled with them for a bit and they spoke
of many things and Baelen revealed to them why he was outside of his kingdom and heading to Voralia.
When he told them his story they readily agreed with the decision he had made, which made him feel
more at ease with himself and what he had done, then they started speaking of the Jaguar. A Goddess
who would also see what he did as good instead of something bad. He had heard of this Jaguar before
from others of the Guard, before his exile, but he didn't pay much attention to it. Now, speaking
with those guards of the caravan it made sense to him. He sought out Combat because this was the
sign he was born under, and so his entire childhood and his choices even up to the point of exile
suddenly made complete sense to him. He knew that he would eventually have to seek out this Baerinika
and speak with her, he had a feeling it would be an interesting meeting. Yet he would still have
to seek Her shrine out and then seek an audience. That was next on his list of goals to accomplish
and once he accomplished becoming a Squire then he would seek out Lady Baerinika.
