Description
An elven figure stands here before you, a little over six feet in height. He
is robed in clothes of a darker shade, with most of his clothing differing
shades of black and gray. His eyes are a deep shade of green, and an aquiline
nose splits his face perfectly. The right side of his face appears to be
severely burned and scarred, his skin twisted and disfigured from some
accident. He carries his weapon loosely at his side, and a shield slung
across his back. Besides these, he wears almost no ornaments or jewelry.
Role
A first letter

Dear Father,
I hope you are well. This is the first, of course, of many letters that I
hope to send to you as updates on my journey. Do not be worried about me, I
am doing well. I hope you do not feel sadness about my leaving, now that it
is only you to take care of my baby sister after mother was...slain by those
foul goblins and orcs on your caravan from the Emerald Forest to Galadon. I
will find Torakahn, your merchant partner who tricked and betrayed you and
paid the vile creatures to ambush your caravan, and assure he pays for your
crimes. I was too young, too untrained to have been there to protect you and
mother. I have joined the guild of paladins as a squire, to learn how to
track and efficiently slay those like Torakahn. Though it is now too late to
have protected mother, I shall assure that this does not happen to anyone
else.
Every night, I dream of how you had entrusted your lives for years into the
hands of the man who would so easily would betray you for a small bag of
gold. My mind and body are focused on a single goal, to help eradicate the
evil that plagues this land. Though a lofty dream, I must begin somewhere.
Please, do not fret about my health.
Your son,
Barfela
Joining others

Dear Father,
Many events have since passed since my last letter to you. Where to even
begin? I have joined the Fortress, as a Squire. Though I had made several
friends within my guild, I sought to join the like-minded individuals of the
Brigade of the Phoenix, to combine our efforts for the goal of the
destruction of those who are evil. Hopefully they can help me learn to hone
my skills, as I have been defeated more times than I would like to admit on
the battlefield.
I have also began following the Deormdel, the Glacial Lord. You may have
heard of him from the merchants who travel in your caravan, he is a Lord who
comes from the far northern reaches of Thera. He has began guiding me in his
teachings, showing how I must reign in my emotions in order to clearly
analyze how to achieve my goals. You always did say I was a too hot-headed
for an elf, and I look to be honest with myself and correct flaws that I have
that will hamper my goals.
Lastly, I still have not heard word of Torakahn, though do not believe that I
have stopped searching.
Love,
Your son.
A Question Posited and Answered
Added Sun Feb 19 21:04:09 2017 at level 40:
Dear Father,
I have good news, and I have bad news, and I regret that it is my fault for
the bad. I had finally uncovered news of the goblins and orcs who had
attacked your caravan. It was of a goblin outpost, in the far regions of the
north, near Hillcrest, where many gnomes call home. Upon this discovery, I
trekked there immediately. My mind was full of troubled thoughts, for I did
not know how I would act upon seeing the one who slew mother.
I had asked my Lord, Deormdel, whether I should control my emotions when I
finally came to seek what I wished. His response was that I must see for
myself which is the the correct path: to act with emotions uncaged, or to
contain them and to always keep a mind that is separated from any feelings
that could cause problems.
Eventually, I reached the outpost, and as I carefully made my way around, I
saw out of my eye a goblin carrying a recognizable spear, one that was
mentioned by a surviving merchant. The "Gnome Drinker," the goblin had named
it. In that moment, seeing the one who had led the attack, all thoughts flew
out the window. I let my emotions coursed through my veins. Striking quickly,
I engaged him before he had time to swing his spear up. It was over in a
matter of seconds, and it was then that I realized my mistake. The goblin,
though I desired to kill him, was not my mission. It was Torakahn, the one
who betrayed you. I felt no elation in this victory, no feelings of relief
either. I let my emotions get the best of me, when I should have prevented
them from delaying my goal. I should have instead found out what he knew of
Torakahn's whereabouts.
I believe I now know the answer to my own question...
Best,
Barafel.
