Description
A whirlwind of cascading fiery hair and mane envelopes your vision
as you gaze at the towering fire giant before you. Piercing crimson
eyes gaze in wild fervor, complementing the wistful sneer etched
onto her broad and rage-filled face. Obsidian night-black skin
caress lean muscles sculpting her statuesque figure, emitting
a scorching heat that promptly evaporates the perspiration trickling
down her flesh. Flecks of callouses layering over each other envelop
her titanic hands, constantly shedding flesh and blood through the
everlasting wounds panging her. She seems strangely dexterous with
these monstrosities, gladly accepting the pain as she grips and drags
an overlarge bloodied axe with familiarity, echoing a ear piercing
grating noise. Covering her hulking body are tattered pieces of black
clothing, once a regal robe or cape and now besmirched with blood,
grime, and pieces of flesh. Enough scraps of the cape hint at crimson
patterns seemingly from the Nacktin-Rah family of Kiadana. Living flames
crackle along the embers forming the ends of her clothing, creating a
trail of ash and smoke in its wake.
Underneath her tattered cape you see...
Role
Nature of Fire
Added Sun Jun 8 22:19:26 2025 at level 19:
Fire is known as the great equalizer. To create fire is difficult, as it
requires combustion and a spark, both factors that is typically not
available in nature. As it grows in size, it consumes the air around it,
transferring it into scorching heat, destroying anything in its path
bringing death. However, death consumes the fire, leaving behind ashes and
nutrients for nature to revitalize and often reconquer its own territory.
Flames as affect the thread of fate, for once every generation the ancient
flames equalize past deeds. Fire giants have long since accepted that the
"Teacher", a mystical creature introduced magic into their bloodline.
Through the lessons of the Teacher, the two legends, Baelius Nacktin-Rah and
Lord Kiadana Rah created the village of Kiadana sparking wars of bloodshed
and violence, sending sacrifices to the Teacher. So blessed were their
bloodlines through the tempering of the Teacher that inevitably nature was
to revolt. And thus came the birth of Beccura Nacktin-Rah, illegitimate
grandchild of Baelius, untouched and immoved by the corruption of the
Teacher, harbringer of the Old Ways and the true One Law.
Adoption (Baelius' Point of View)
Added Sun Jun 8 22:20:04 2025 at level 19:
Baelius glanced from his hovel overlooking the village of Kiadana and sighed
with exasperation. Although his eyes often failed him, the magic of the
Teacher enabled him to sense far beyond normal eyes. He had long since become
a hermit at the village of Kiadana, leaving the ruling to his Lord and content
to retire looking over his grandchildren. And the same grandchild, adopted at
the whims of Tohr, was always troublesome.
They had found her huddled in the center of a sea of blood and flame from a recent
excursion against the storm giants and named her Beccura - Defiant Flame in their
tongue - due to her gaze and defiant. Certainly she struck a chord in her a
doptive father. For years they searched for her lineage within the Village and no
one confessed. Typical. No one wanted to confess their weakness in violation of
the One Law. When in fact confessing and earning the respect of a miraculous
children surviving the storm giant incursion would have been more adhering to
the One Law. The Village had become soft and no longer follows the old ways.
Baelius grimaced again as Beccura failed at the simplest of magic that Tohr tried
to teach her. Why Tohr doted on her he had no idea. She was more lithe than bulky,
appearing weaker than his true grandchildren. Certainly she was striking, with her
spurting manes, and her fists were uncanny. But outside of Lord Kiadana, there
were not many who persevered without adopting the wills of the Teacher, learning
magic, and adopting the ways of the demons and devils of Hell.
Baelius groaned as Beccura failed again and started pummeling the ground in rage.
Rage was normal for his kin, but as he aged he realized the importance of being
calm and collected. Shaking his head, he went back into his hovel to rest his tired
bones, followed by his pet hellhound Rover lapping at his trail. At least her fists
would be mighty.
Failure (Tohr's Point of View)
Added Sun Jun 8 22:20:30 2025 at level 19:
Beccura roared in frustration as Tohr gazed at her with disapproving eyes. "Again."
He was close to losing patience with his wayward adoptive daughter.
For years she had tried innumerous times to learn the simplest precepts of an
anti-paladin, but even sensing the simplest nature of magic was lost to her. Thus
Tohr went back to the fundamentals that even baby fire giants were able to glean -
to sense magic within an artifact. It was a simple test. Blindfold her and have her
choose the magic items from a set of ten artifacts. Initially there was only one
item that was magical. This was the ninth iteration, where nine out of the ten
items had magic traits. Even with the most minimal luck she should be able to
select a magical item.
She chose ... poorly. A failure once again. Either she was mischievous or ignorant.
It didn't seem like the former at the true emotions of depression plastered on her
face. He had seen the stern gaze of this wayward child initially where elite storm
giant soldiers were strewn about her in a random position, showing signs of being
burned or beaten to death. It was miraculous for a child to be this strong, and he
did not sense any other magical forces or other creatures near her. A promising
child that he viewed would be his true heir, even beyond the strength of his son Bahr.
Tohr turned his back to Beccura in disappointment. Before when her howls of
frustration erupted in his ears he would often try to ease them. Now his ears were
deaf to the constant failure. For the Teacher's ways and magic were absolute to
gain power, and a child who was unable to accept the simplest of teachings had no
place in his army.
A wiser or more intelligent fire giant would have inspected the situation and
thought it strange. There was chance, and there was luck. A wiser and more
intelligent fire giant would have thought that either magic was repelling her, or
she was repelling magic.
Revolt (Drathgar's Point of View)
Added Sun Jun 8 22:21:18 2025 at level 19:
Drathgar chased the wayward figure in front of him, a creature that was trying to
escape the patrols. No longer a child, Beccura's tantrums and rage were legendary
within Kiadana, but never had she done anything that sabotaged the army.
She was fast and dextrous. Significantly faster than he remembered and she
appeared to dodge a tackle by one of his guards, tripping another guard to cause
a third guard to stumble. She was also strategic and used her surrounding well,
something that he should have calculated given her tendency to be a loner and
exploring the outskirts of Kiadana.
Nonetheless, the Village of Kiadana was his domain, and he was one of its enforcers.
Her "pranks" have gone too far this time as she sabotaged many of the magic items
and artifacts used to supply and support the army in its conquests. She had often
spoken of disdain for these magic items, calling them a defilement and corruption
to the One Law and true strength. This was something that village tolerated as it
became evident that she was a disgrace and failure in learning the ways of the
Teacher, and they had thought her jealous.
Enough. Drathgar's mighty feets planted itself in the ground and he jumped,
bodyslamming Beccura against the ground. She snarled loudly, attempting to pummel
him with her fists. He had felt those fists before and they were slightly more
painful then others, but they were no match for his hardened body.
Drathgar hardened his expression before knocking the side of her head with the
pommel of his sword. He did not enjoy Tohr's "hobbies" of adopting children, but
he often sensed a kindred spirit in Beccura, something that he never acted on for
his new that Tohr was chosen by the Teacher and he was not. He would always be
deferential to Tohr.
As he placed Beccura's limp body on his shoulder and started walking back to the
Village, he hesitated. This was the first time in years that Drathgar hesitated.
He was alone and none of his guards were about him.
Slowly, ever steadily, he turned around and, with Beccura's limp body on his
shoulder, he headed toward the face of the Volcano. It was not kindness that made
Drathgar go outside. But a strange sensation from within the heart of the Volcano
that Beccura's life had just begun, which strengthened the compassion that he
felt for a child, much like himself, who was unloved by the Teacher.
Volcanic Callouses (Beccura's Memory 1)
Added Sun Jun 8 22:27:42 2025 at level 20:
Slamming the ground with her fists once again, the nearby volcanic rocks crumbled
at the force and Drathgar came round to inspect her. Perhaps she should have been
found by Drathgar instead, for his skills in battle were legendary even though he
did not sense magic. Strangely, whenever she looked at him she almost puked in
disgust at the magic armor adorning his flesh. He says he follows the One Law,
but relies not on his own strength from his mind, body or soul, but rather the magic
aid supplied by the Teacher.
Beccura had trained in the same location away from most warriors of the Village.
They either shied at her or were in awe at her luck - neither of which she desired.
She had little memories of her child, just the pains of the scars on her body
reminded her of dangerous deeds, and was only trying to truly assimilate into
Tohr's family. But her rage at her failure was often unchecked, leading her to
punch the same volcanic rock over and over again. Strange plants now grew in that
location as the mountain fed on her blood, and in her turn, Kiadana's volcanic rock
had become embedded into her flesh.
Little did she know the Mountain of Kiadana's reaction was not the same for others.
For her angst and blood and sparked sentience within the mountain, a reminder of
the old ways and the One Law.
Embarkment (Captain Craydullagh's Point of View)
Added Sun Jun 15 01:37:16 2025 at level 26:
Captain Craydullagh Inerstriach frowned at the scorched mark on
his ship. He thrummed his fingers on his mace as he contemplated
what to do with the fiery beast in front of him. He had taken a
good commission from a Nacktin-Rah to transport a "wayward child"
from Kiadana to teach her a life of the sea. Little did he know
that she was boisterous with a wild flare and her fists as solid
and as stubborn as her attitude. This was the tenth time where her
rage erupted and spatters of her fire emerged around her.
He groaned in annoyance he settled into his cabin. Aside from his
greed, there was another reason why he undertook her to his wings.
Her defiant glare at the magic that surrounded him itched his brain,
almost as if he should help her. Perhaps it was the pact with the
Dark Phoenix's emissary that he made so long ago to protect the
Crimson Fire, but the child's gaze sparked a dangerous intuition.
And he enjoyed dangerous intuition. Otherwise, the Crimson Fire
wouldn't be his.
He sighed deeply. He had really tried to teach her of the sea, but
her fiery temperament and zealousness to adhere to the One Law, a
significantly archaic concept especially in the eyes of gold, and
peculiar distaste for all things magic had made it difficult. Ah
youth. He remembered when he as vigorous as the child. But it was
quickly beaten out of him.
Peculiar, however, that he did not think that Beccura's ideals would
be extinguished. Inwardly, he was in awe of her conviction and
naivety and cheered her on. Outwardly, however, he did not think
that the commission he earned would be enough to repair the damages
on his ship.
Only a day left before he arrived at the Hamsah docks. It couldn't
come soon enough.
Memory or Dreams? (Beccura's Point of View)
Added Sun Jun 15 03:05:15 2025 at level 27:
Beccura's body felt inflamed, her sight could barely distinguish
between colors, and a gnawing sharp pain plagued her head as she
tossed and turned aboard the Crimson Fire. Even more perturbing
are the constant sensations and visions in her dreams.
Fire. Passion. Hatred. Strewn around her were laughing voices,
ridiculing and mocking her. Lethargy plagued her as those voices
increased in tempo, sapping her strength. "Join us...Join us..."
The voices enthralled her, and soon she seemed to welcome those
voices, even favoring them as her cries erupted in angst.
Her skin was ablaze. It was fire and should be comforting but
something was amiss as the pains were those of ice. She was
confused, ever so confused. It seems the closer she became
assimilated to those voices the more confused and the more in
pain she was.
The pain and the chanting abruptly stopped. Flying above her was
a blurry figure, covering the entire sky with a red hue that
seems to be a mixture of blood and darkness. It was a massive
beast, composed of beaks, claws, fangs - a true testament to
strength and ferocity. And it was hungry.
She felt its gaze upon her, deciding whether she was prey. A
loud grating noise, a mixture of a hiss and screech, emerged
from what she thought was its mouth as it threatened to consume
her. Only the flames and darkness that passed her wasn't as
painful as she thought. It was pleasant, but similar to an
embrace from a loved one instead of a tricked assimilation.
All around her were corpses of storm giants. Bloodied,
brutalized, ripped apart. Her eyes burned and her body ached,
but she welcomed the pain and exhaustion. It was exhilarating,
to be apart from those voices and embrace the flames that
threatened to overcome her.
Beccura jolted awake within her cabin in the Crimson Fire. The
sheets Captain Craydullagh gave her were scorched once again.
She knew she would have an earful. But it would last only one
more day. Tomorrow she arrives at Hamsah Mu'tazz.
Sacrifice of Nacktin-Rah (Tahren's Point of View)
Added Thu Jun 19 16:31:25 2025 at level 28:
Tahren grunted as he hammered another magical artifact before
spitting on it. Tendrils of magic seems to rise from it before
being enveloped in the strange fire that emerged from the anvil.
Tahren breathed deeply at the clean air as the veil thickened.
A lumbering fire giant emerged before him. Another customer is
it? Tahren inspected the female giant like a craftsman. A good
sturdy build, similar to her kind, except much more limber.
Grotesque titanic hands clearly used for either striking the
anvil or punching rocks. He smirked. Obviously the former - who
would do the latter?
Oh? The giant seems to be more a blacksmith as she offered a
pendant of Nacktin-Rah to him. He detected some hesitation, but
she shook her head with a grim purpose, her eyes blazing in
anger. A fine customer who wants the destruction of magic.
Tahren grinned broadly as he swiftly dismantled the pendant on
the anvil before pummeling it to destruction. To the side of
his eyes he noticed the giant with a slight remorse on her face.
But even beyond that, he sensed a kindred spirit in her -
unmoving and unquenching in her purpose. A fine spirit and, with
the right pledge, a new soldier to join this War.
***
That day, Beccura offered one of two pendants of Nacktin-Rah that
she took with her in her escape as keepsakes. She had always
hesitated about keeping those, for they caused her great angst
and pain due to their magical nature. But this was the right time
- a sacrifice of her Past to bring to embrace a future without the
Teacher's influence and the reinvigoration of the Truth of the One
Law.
Clangs of Discord (Beccura's Memory 1 - Lord Kiadana's Point of View)
Added Thu Jun 26 17:25:17 2025 at level 40:
The sounds of grating metal being forged in the hot volcanic ashes were
only defeated by the clangs of axes against each other. In the middle
of the Village of Kiadana, Lord Kiadana observed his villagers spar
against each other with contempt. On one side was the nuisance Beccura
who didn't appreciate the Teachers' ways, wielding a drabby ill-created
axe that she somehow found in the midst of a refuse pile. On the other
side was one of the contenders for the Elite village guards, a mature
child who embraced the Teachers' teachings and utilized magic like Tohr.
An uneven battle to say the least.
Or at least, that's what many of the onlookers thought. Beccura was a
dark horse in these competitions, as her desires to shy away from magic
and taught her reliance on strategy and her body. She often relied on
more her cunning and wiles, taking advantage of the environment, before
striking with ferocity. There was something to be said about her
methodology which were more similar to a Wildman than a fire giant.
Naturally, such lack of conformity was a blight within Kiadana,
especially against Lord Kiadana's reign. Thus he granted Beccura's
opponent the Battle Axe of Rah, a powerful symbol and magic item that
was passed down directly from the Teacher, to teach Beccura a lesson
of the might of magic.
The loud clangs of the axes faded to hush gasped, which soon became an
uproar - some in favor, some against. Beccura had strangely emerged
victorious within this tournament. She wasn't unscathed, for the magic
of the Battle Axe of Rah was damning to its prey, but she posed, proud,
one hand with pieces of tarnished metals that was once her axe, now
resembling more like a bludgeon, and the other hand the head of her
opponent. Rarely did these tournaments lead to death especially with
ones so promising in the Teachers' way.
Lord Kiadana left the arena, summoning the Battle Axe of Rah to his
hands, in a poor mood. The spectacle he carefully crafted to showcase
the Teachers' ways had become Beccura's victory. He also had a small
smirk on his face as he gleaned in Beccura's abilities with the axe -
perhaps should she find a way to accept the Teachers' teachings, she
would one day inherit his axe.
Part 1 Summary - Next Steps
Added Sun Jul 6 11:17:27 2025 at level 51:
Beccura believes in the true strength of the One Law. Whether it's fate, destiny, or
simply an anomaly (or perhaps she's a heir of Umgrathuul, He Who Was Born of Magma, He
Who Defied The Elder Gods), she has significant disdain for anything relating to magic,
as she believes that is a corruption to the True One Law. Her view of the One Law is more
indepth than simply strength and survival. She seeks to overcome challenges often by
herself, sometimes to her own folly, to embrace what she believes to be the One Law -
aside from simply destroying humans, cloud, and storm giants, to dominate herself and
others through her actions. An axe only goes insofar as cutting through flesh. The symbol
of the axe, including the handle which needs to be worn well and gripped expertly, the
swing of the axe which needs to be concise, forging an axe and grinding down the
sharpness - all of these are symbols of an axe and the care that one takes in themselves.
And to that extent, she also seeks to hone her body, martial prowess, courage, and
eventually become a symbol of the true One Law.
These ambitions came through multiple avenues of her past as provided in the previous
chapters. But in the world of Thera, not all can be done with oneself. So, whether it's
fate, destiny, or simply an anomaly (or divine providence), her appears in Thera will
hopefully bring significant change in the wind. What that change is is to be determined,
but Beccura's hopes include the following:
- She knows that she is no match for Lord Kiadana or the Teachers' teachings, at least
not directly, so she wants her actions to symbolize to the fire giants that magic (aka
the Teachers' teachings) is reducing their prowess, ability, and ambition.
- She sees within the Battlerager Village others who have similar ideals, and wants to
lead her own army (similar to Tohr and Drathgar). Accordingly, she is vying for the
Drillmistress position, and eventually as the Commander.
- She is still very much invested in the Nacktin-Rah family and wants to become the head
of that family and purge the Teachers' teachings.
- Dreams (or memories) are still very evident in her night, and over time, she will be
exploring those dreams - in particular that of the dark Phoenix, so she will seek Ocaiye's
religious path.
