Description
Coils of frost snake around this looming giant, bound by an unseen magic that
defies his current setting. Flakes of snow crust the corners of his ancient
armor, the dark metal shining with a slightly wet sheen. His choice of
armament is outdated; antiquated pieces from a time long past but no less
foreboding. Reaching the height of his kin, this towering giant is muscular
and well armed although you can tell he uses more than just his weapon while
fighting. His light blue skin is dusted with bushels of pale white hair,
little clouds covered in frosted snowflakes. His eyes are unable to be seen
as his helmet covers his face almost completely - a slightly terrifying
aspect as you're unable to see where he's looking. From the helmet's
jaw-guard, plumes of steam pulse from beneath the metal grate. Patiently
stoic in his stance, it seems as if he could wait an eternity... or strike in
an instant.

The Setup

A hundred years ago, lightning had struck the huge elm, the white fire
driving like a spear down its heartwood and splitting wide the ancient trunk.
It stood alone, atop a misshapen mound. Beneath the untouched snow, jumbled
boulders, and snaking dead roots, the capstone that once protected a
slab-walled burial chamber had cracked, collapsing inward to place immense
weight on the body interred within.
The tremor of footfalls reaching down to that body was a rare enough
occurrence - only a handful of times over the past countless millennia - that
the long-slumbering soul was stirred into wakefulness. The skein of wards
embracing the creature were twisted and tangled, yet persistent in their
power.
Taking his position before the frozen tomb, the Nameless spoke. "We stand
once more before necessity. By the power of Vilhazarog, I invoke the ritual
of release."
At these words, the creature within the barrow felt a sudden snap, and the
awakened awareness all at once found its own identity. Its name was Behmurra
Nerah. Born on the eve of the First Empire, when the streets of each city
burned in celebration. For the Imperials had come.
The Nameless continued. "On the trail out of savagery... some vessels must
need break. For the sojourner, a toll in blood must be paid. In the name of
Agathocles, I invoke the ritual of release." Within the barrow, Behmurra
became aware of his body. Battered flesh, straining bone, the immense weight
upon him. Agony.
"I assume a terrible responsibility in this, yet the only hope of success
lies with me, with what I do here on this day. By the power of Khasotholas, I
invoke the ritual of release." Pain faded from Behmurra's body. Still trapped
and unable to move, the frost giant felt his body heal.
"The secret is singular. Death arrives as knowledge. There is justice in what
I do this day. By Zulghinlour's will, I invoke the ritual of release." And
from his words descended power, through dead tree root, through stone and
snow, dissolving ward after ward. Behmurra lifted the capstone and rose into
the world of the living.

Straining his eyes, Behmurra struggled to find something along the tomb wall.
The Nameless had left with a simple message: Rebuild. He knew nothing of why
now or for what reasons was he awoken, but something in his core drew him to
find something here. With a small sigh of relief, Behmurra found a hidden
crevice along a crack and withdrew a large book.
Running his hands over the leather-bound cover, he paused at the runed title
that translated to "Memories". With little thought on how he knew of its
existence, he thumbed to the first page.
"You remember the violent deflowering of civilization with the birth of the
First Empire.... but know that it is no more. Your life is dead and all that
you know has passed. With each slumber your memory fades. Herein lies what
you learned from each life. Before your last eve, you must add to this... or
curse us forever."
As he carefully flipped through each page, the weight of it all slowly
gathered. Behmurra learned of the Betrayal, the rise and fall of various
religions and gods, and even the sudden appearance of some new races. For
countless years he had been a tool for his Empire - the frigid wastes was a
battlefield that no other faction dared enter for it was Zulghinlour's and
Behmurra's to defend. Sylvans had tried and been destroyed, Entropists had
visited and disappeared and those of the White Tower were fed to the snow
worms.... but Zulghinlour was gone - a fact that burned like a needle
burrowing into Behmurra's chest, stealing his breath. His brothers had
awoken, the Gorge rebuilt - they were leaving the wastes. The last page of
his journal mentioned the rise of Jormyr.... that pompous bastard now wanted
followers? The world was in chaos.
Behmurra would rebuild - on the ashes of the world today. This life would be
different. Tossing the book into the crevice, he climbed out of the tomb and
into the world of Thera.
When the Devil whistles, the world quakes with fear

Behmurra returned to the tomb, making sure he wasn't followed. He needed the
break from the noise of life - it rattled his soul like a stream of
vibrations that would never end. He half expected the Nameless to be waiting
there calmly but he was nothing but alone. It seems his journey had been
continuing on course without the need for direction from him.
Behmurra gathered the journal and begun to write a series of lists: Emperor,
High Priestess, War Master, Shadowlord, Dreadlord. He begun to take notes of
their likes, dislikes, and anything he knew on them. His ultimate goal for
control would take years of planning, allies on all sides, and most of all an
unwavering dedication to the long-term. The current Council was anything but
weak despite the rot obvious within. Behmurra would need to become an
essential and foundational piece so the structure held.... until removed at
the correct moment so he would stand atop the rubble. Time was on his side.
After a slight pause, he then added to his list the name Daevryn. The Lord
had been impressed earlier by completion of a series of tasks that set him
apart from the rabble. This good fortune would not last and he needed to
above all us produce results. Behmurra had risen quickly, defeated every foe
presented and was becoming an icon for his Lord - weakness would not be
tolerated.
As he pondered what to write, he decided to leave it blank for now. Daevryn
would need to be handled in the moment, no planning would aid him here for it
would be a culmination of everything before.
Behmurra rehid the journal and begun the long trek back to civilization - and
for the first time in a hundred years, he whistled on his way.
