Description
A mottled gray Svirfneblin of unusual height stands here with an axe in one
hand and a hammer at his belt. At almost four feet tall this Svirfneblin
stands out when standing next to his kin. His hair is a shiny black color
almost reminding you of shiny blackened steel. His eyes are a peculiar shade
of dark green. So dark they almost look black, but still with a hint of
emerald about them. His skin, though mottled with gray and white spots is
very tough and dusty. By the look of his broad shoulders, well formed
muscles, and weapons in hand it is easy to see this Svirfneblin is akin to
working with the earth.Although he carries his axe and hammer like tools,
it is obvious that he knows how to swing them both equally well.

The path of Blidern is a simple one. He was raised by his family around the
town of Cragstone and his father helped in the mines. Now, when we talk of a
Svirfneblin mine, we cant think of what the duergar and dwarves do. Oh no,
for the Svirfneblin are more akin to the earth they work with. They are even
known to be able to create gems from the earth. Now, Blidern likes a good
gem, just like the next Svirfneblin, but that isnt his goal. All day long
as he swings his axe and hammer he longs to join the defense of the tunnels.
For you see, the Underdark is a cruel and dangerous place, and like all young
boys of 40 years old he wants to put his hammer and pickaxe to other uses.
His father tells him no however and his mother, well, his mother will have
none of that. For you see, Mrs. Martasz lost her older son to the Underdark
when Blidern was only a small lump. Now, most people wouldnt call their
children lumps, but to the way of the Underside, being a lump is special.
For a lump of earth is what they are of course referring to, and as we said
before, they love the earth. Anyway, thats another topic in culture and we
just dont have time for that right now.
Now what Bliderns parents didnt know was that while on his breaks Blidern
would practice using his hammer and axe for fighting with the other mounds
(children). You see, in a town like Cragstone, where everyone is productive,
when you are old enough to swing an axe, youre old enough to be working. It
was on this day, while Blidern was away from his home and working in a tunnel
not far away that an envoy from Arangird came to barter for their gems.
Now, what would later be fortunate for Blidern, his father sent him with a
different group that day. For you see, Bliderns father was an overseer and
led many groups into the tunnels looking for the choicest earth from which to
call forth their gems. It was to his party that the duergar arrived to
broker their deal. However, the duergar offered nothing of real value to Mr.
Martasz and refused their offer. Now, the duergar are known among the
Underdark for their shrewd ways and when Bliderns father refused to trade
them gems, they put a dagger in his side, and stole away with them anyway.
Not long after this a cry went up in Cragstone for a party to chase them, and
in her anger Mrs. Martasz allowed her son Blidern to go. Immediately Blidern
grabbed his axe and hammer and was off.His party closed in on the duergar
as the duergar are foolish and did not realize even the earth would be
angered for their offense and gave knowledge to the party. When the
Svirfneblin came upon the duergar Blidern lead with a mighty warcry for his
father. He was amazing in the fray, knocking this duergar upside the head
and quickly ducking an axe intended for his own head. Quickly turning on
that duergar he took the axe in his off hand and cut the duergars leg off at
the knee. The duergar were quickly vanquished with limited casualties to
their own party.
However, in all of this there was one problem. As Bliderns fury became
evident to the duergar one of them decided to give up. He pleaded for mercy,
but seeing this foe and being enraged by the death of his father Blidern took
his axe and the axe of another. He quickly put both axes into opposites
The Crone

It has been 30 years since Blidern came to the Overside now. His paths have
lead him in many directions and his life is no longer simple, and yet in some
ways, much simpler. His love of the way of the Outlander has lead him to
abandon all forms of civilization that tainted him before he came to the
Overside. In his journeys he has come to speak with the Crone of Lady
Amaranthe and has dedicated his life to the great cycle. With a scythe she
culls the weak and vile from the fields of the lands. He wishes to be that
scythe, to aide in removing those things which harm Thar-Eris return and
anger the Anchients.
He has found her blessing upon occasion and has been tasked with destroying
necromancers from the lands. He has had a few battles with them, but could
not land a fatal injury. He is saddened by this, yet determined, as he does
not wish to displease his Lady.
*On a side note:
Blidern has dedicated himself to using four weapons, and four weapons only.
First of course, is his mind, the greatest weapon any warrior possesses.
Second he has chosen the hammer, the tool he grew up using and the third he
will use is his axe. For as was told before, the axe and the hammer are the
tools he used as a young svirfneblin, and with them they will always stay. He
has also come to realize that he must understand how to use his hands for
fighting. Though he does not enjoy this style, he will learn to use them in
order to protect himself in the future. As for the other weapons that those
of the lands uses, he will only ever touch them to barter them away.
