Description

Three and a half feet tall and more wiry than stout, with gray hair and gray skin and strangely gray eyes. Unremarkable clothing and several things of war cover most of the body, though the arms, scarred and hairy are left unclothed. No distinguishing marks can be found, the face is what passe as average for svirfneblin, feet shod with sturdy boots and legs strong from what you can detect. Even here though, strewn among the various outdoor living tools and the weapons of war, you see a bit of mining gear and is that a smudge of dirt? Maybe that slight sparkle is ore dust? Could be. Generally speaking though, your cursory glance shows you that

Role

bosephus in a nutshell

Added Sat Dec 29 12:50:53 2012 at level 10:
Bosephus wants the best stuff. He was born poor and orphaned and he has
grown to almost insane levels of possesiveness. But also the best of fighting,
because he spent all those years fighting to keep whatever little things -
bits of string, a tiny nugget of spent ore, anything he could call his - his
and safe and away from anyone else. So he will fight and show he is strong enough
to fend off any threats, with the psychology that if he can show how strong
people will think twice before trying to take anything. Of course he will take
anything he can, whenever he can, if his greed sees it of value to him.

As for why he hates magic, that's simple. That's why he was a poor orphan to begin
with. The enchanters in blindingstone screwed up and a mine collapsed, killing his
family. He was young enough that the irrational hatred took root and even though
most people might see it as a simple unfortunate incident, his small child's mind
saw it as magic taking from him all he had, and that can never happen again.

besephus a bit older and some clarifications

Added Tue Jan 1 16:00:17 2013 at level 19:
Few people have commented on his standard sounding accent, and they
are surprised he doesn't sound like some dwarf or other svirf who have some
strange accent. Came up with gredoor, who has a thick Cragstone accent.
Bosephus, having been orphaned at age 6, took to wandering the entire
underdark, meeting a lot more people and cultures than the usual, and at so
young an age that he developed a real amalgam of accents, which comes together
as no accent at all. so he talks in common like a common, using lingo from
time to time of the bandits and thieves that roam, of the drow that roam, of his
own kind, all of them. And of course what he's adopted since coming to the sun side.

When it comes to his personal goals and work, he's doing what the guildmaster
told him, training training training, and at the same time doing what his heart
tells him, which is hunt and kill mages, and at the same time doing what his
mind tells him, gathering riches and pretty and powerful objects that catch his eye.
He doesn't just take everything, in fact he's taken incredibly little from the corpses
of his enemies, but mostly because they had little of value or interest.
He has no problem taking though, and will, from corpses he makes or corpses others
make. Doesn't bother him at all. They are dead. He would prefer to be the
one to make them dead, but reality is reality and there is the corpse with the thing
he wants.

And lastly he convinced Cainargen to let him join the village. He will do well in it
if he can, and he fits mostly, and doesn't expect much trouble. He'll grow and fight and
learn and see how he does. And at the cusp of learning a new weapon, he knows how
a pickaxe feels, so he'll just ask the guildmaster to teach him new ways to use it.

Evolution

Added Sat Jan 19 20:33:23 2013 at level 51:
Been a while since the last update and much has gone on. He did choose the
axes, and then later the spears and staffs, and has mastered them in as much
as the things he can learn about them from the guildmaster and in using them
repeatedly. They've brought him some solid success in his original motivation
for life in general and the village in specific, killing mages and those who
support them and their work. And others who just wanted to take a shot at him.
That doesn't mean he's seen failure and death himself, and he hates it,
especially if it comes at the hands of gangs. Though in some ways he hates it
equally when it comes at the hand of just one, in single combat, because then
of course he can't really blame it on being over powered. So, pretty much, he
just hates losing. But while he gets angry and upset when it happens (and how
unnatural would it be not to get angry and upset when you die and lose things),
it doesn't consume him or become something exessive. So far at least. And he
continues to look for things he wants and likes, while at the same time leaving
most things in the corpses he makes. Again because mostly they aren't of real
value, at least to him. Value does come in many forms though, and he rolls his
eyes a people who say "but you can't use that!" about something he takes. All
things can be used, either sold, given for veil thickening, given to someone
else in the village, whatever. So he looks down on people like that doubly so.

At the same time, while all that is true, he has finished the first part of his
life, he has finished the guild training, he has become proficient at his chosen
work, and he has engaged in war for quite a while. He begins to look for
something larger. He has never been a religious person, growing up as he did
he heard the names of all the gods, and felt the calling of none. Recently
the name of Neltouda was mentioned to him by a passing priest, and perhaps she
is fitting for him, but he honestly doesn't know. Likewise he has seen many of
the villagers, himself included, fall prey to the power of bards, and unlike
anything else he begins to feel the need to do something about it. Singing is
not magic. It is not prayer. It is its own thing, and yet all the protections
available for fighting singers seem to be filthy magic. And so he has started
a campaign to devise one, one not made through magic, either through the raising
of coin to pay a bard guildmaster to come up with it, or through hunting and
exploring to find one that already exists but remains hidden. He has ideas of
his own how something might work - perhaps trap a bee in a small box to wear on
the ears, whose buzzing interferes with the songs. Perhaps something as simple
as earmuffs made from some creature's fur or skin that deadens the sound enough
to help. More ideas would be welcome. This is something he thinks worthy of
effort.

Just a bit left over

Added Sat Jan 19 20:34:03 2013 at level 51:
Also, he's been insulted for being insulting, and he couldn't care less. The
high regard of his enemies means nothing to him. Though, with the caveat that
he definitely sees a distinction between the mages and their supporters who he
views as real enemies, and others, like fortress priests or warriors, who he
sees as only situational enemies. He doesn't stint from fighting as he should,
war is war, but he would not mind being at least neutral with them, if not real
friends.

Stuff

Added Wed Feb 6 15:42:39 2013 at level 51:
They say growing older often brings a bit more spirituality, a wider sense of
yourself in the world, and things bigger than you. So it makes sense that after
many years Bosephus saw enough, learned enough, and became comfortable enough
with himself to meet with and speak with Neltouda, the patron of people similar
to him. Growing up a kid of the tunnels and streets without any family and
living hand to mouth, learning to fight to survive, stoking the flames for
vengeance against the mages, he would never have guessed his life would lead to
that moment, or even more important, to the fact that he would even want that
moment. But he did, and does, and he has taken her words to heart, as much as
he can for now. He thinks now of her two tasks, to think of how enemies think
of him, and to think of the meaning of storms. On the later he's had some real
success, he thinks, and looks forward to talking about it with her. On the
former, probably not so much, but he is who he is and that's not something that
would come easy, or even necessarily something he wants. But he thinks about it
in deference to the Captain.

Otherwise he's very frustrated at the amount of time it's taking for either the
rites to be called or for the gods to name a new commander. Like several he's
talked to, nobody really sees Arratok as the leader. He's the leader in name
only, not in actual leading, and he so obviously suffers from insecurity. He
needs to shout out how he is the leader, how everyone must obey him, do what he
wants, say what he wants, etc. And he threatens everyone with hut burning just
because he can, so everyone has to just accept it. But he's just the holdover
pick of Cainargen and nobody thinks he'll be anything after the rites. Whenever
they happen, or whenever a new commander is named directly. Can't happen soon
enough in Bosephus's mind. He's already mostly decided that if he wins and is
commander he'll pick Gredoor as drillmaster, and hopes that if Gredoor is picked
he'll do the same. But even if he's not picked for either, though he thinks
he should be obviously, can't imagine any villager not wanting it, he thinks he
will be happy just having arratok out of the way.

Stuff continued

Added Wed Feb 6 15:43:10 2013 at level 51:
On the other side he's generally pleased with how his personal war is going. He
is particularly impressed with himself for his focus. He has had many occasions
to kill various tribunal non-mages, urses in particular, and he has not even tried.
Same for others. But for the vast majority of the time he is very narrowly focused
as he believes villagers should be, and hopes one day to outpace Aulrathdiaen and
be the mageslayer. Other than commander there really is no greater achievement
while still living. The few times he has deliberately killed non-mage, non-nexus
or scion, were for very specific reasons, and he told them the reasons and that
if they didn't do whatever it was that got them this treatment this time, it need
never happen again. The perfect example is Azhelak. He puts a snare in the ruins
right outside the village. Bosephus tells him not to do that. A few minutes later
Bosephus leaves the nexus having just raided and holding the key, and he walks into
an ambush in quicksand, Azhelak and Nayl, nexus invoker, are together and they
try to trap Bosephus. He gets away and then later kills Azhelak telling him that
if he doesn't work with nexus and attack him again, he doesn't need to be killed
again. Bosephus thinks that's the right way to handle it. A stern scolding by
the teacher isn't what you do when you're a battlerager warrior!

12 7 An Immortal An Immortal added 1000 exp for: Family killed by mages, so he's an orphan that likes shiny stuff. He's always had to fight for what was his, so warrior guild was a simple choice.
25 38 An Immortal An Immortal added 400 exp for: Updates about our accent (going unnoticed), getting into Battle, and conversations with other villagers.
51 148 Baerinika Temper temper. Not everone who pks you is a Coward. See Isildur's pet peeves list!
51 166 Daevryn I totally get why Fort is raiding to gang you, neutral battle down... but I'm also not going to have anything bad to say about you when what goes around comes around to them.
51 203 Akresius It's potty-mouth RP, but I've seen good things both as an imm and as a mortal. Enjoy the title.
51 248 Whiysdan Took away stock title and just made it 'the Gutter-Mouthed Axe Murderer of the Village'. Good presence for Battle.
51 251 Whiysdan I think the following warcry is very spot on for this character: "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine, and that includes your life, you arselicking pile of hook horror puke!!!" thumbsup!
51 284 An Immortal An Immortal added 400 exp for: Updates about meetings with Nelly, his thoughts on the Village, and how he tries to avoid non-enemy pks.
51 294 Whiysdan Being that he has almost 2.8 million in the bank, I added the 'Filthy Rich' bit to his title.
