Role
Saviors

It was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Bathed in a
glorious light, garbed in resplendent armor, he stood like a beacon
thats sole purpose was to draw the gaze of all. And so it did. Not a
single eye in the village could turn away. The mass of rock beside it
was insignificant to the gathering thrawl, and even when its movement
brought the sound of a small landslide, no eyes wavered. The man before
him was saying something and it took all of Brizlins power to focus his
attention on the words. Apparently the village was now under the
protection of the Maran. They had heard of the evil mage that had taken
to asking strange questions about the obelisk the village was built
around and torturing people for the answers. Worry not he said, and then
with a word, stepped through a portal and was gone. The whole village
snapped from their daze and excited murmurs spread through the crowd.
His best friend Baylor bounced around him, infected with the enthusiasm
of the throng. But as entranced as Brizlin was. he knew something was
odd. Old man Billic hadn't said anything about losing any cows, so why
was that vulture flying overhead.
Battle
Added Sun Jan 27 15:04:44 2013 at level 15:
The boys were playing swords with long plant stalks when the Maran
arrived the next day. Their weapons thrown and forgotten, they ran
towards the village, eager to see the angel once more. But as they
crossed the pasture the village alarm went up and with all the speed they
could muster, they soon rounded the corner of Panters general store and
had the village square in sight. There was the Maran again, this time
with a massive undulating creature of fire by his side. But coming down
the other side of town was the largest giant he had ever seen. The only
one in fact. With ebony skin and fiery red hair he had two massive
swords drawn, both the size of a normal man. Before he could reach the
mage the angels features changed. Where once was a beatific creature
now stood the most fearsome thin Brizlin had ever seen. Filled with
fear, the boys could only watch as the angel attacked the giant with
unnatural holy fervor. The fire elemental exploded doing little to the
giant but catching the surrounding stores on fire. Chaos followed
wherever the battle moved and the giants face took on a mask of rage
rivaling that of the angel. Any caught in his path were struck down in
a single blow as he followed the bloody Maran. Then, as the final blow
was struck, the vulture appeared, turning himself into the form of a lion
and the battle began anew, more dying as the fight carried itself out of
the village and into the forest. The last thing heard was the pained
roar of the king of the jungle.
Aftermath
Added Sun Jan 27 15:05:40 2013 at level 15:
The village burned that day. With so many people slaughtered there were
too few to chin the buckets from the well to fight the fires. Burned
corpses that couldn't escape the fires and bloody masses that the giant
had struck lay strewn about the town. It was there that I found Baylor,
crying over the bodies of his parents, what was left of them at least,
and cursing the giant for their deaths. He was overwhelmed with grief
but I did my best to console him, telling him that though the giant had
killed them, if the mages had never came they would still have been
alive. He would hear nothing of it though. That was the first and last
fight we ever had. I took what I could gather from the stores, and from
the other refugees and made my way towards Galadon. I have no idea what
ever happened to Baylor, only that he hated me for what I said. Having
little money and nowhere to stay I found myself destitute and cold,
struggling to avoid the city guards, hiding in a dark alley. It was
there I heard the voice from the darkness. It asked what I would be
willing to do to survive. With no hesitation I said 'Whatever it takes.'
A smiling man appeared from the doorway and beckoned me inside.

- His friends call him Puck.
- When looking at the battle in his village he sees it thus: Getting rid
of Battleragers still leaves mages, but getting rid of mages means the
village is then unneeded and with disappear as well.
- He wasn't always evil, but the years and the demands of his profession
have slowly eroded the what moral inhibitions he once held.
- He doesn't understand how any of the goodly folk can have a hut in the
Village. What they are needed to do can't be accomplished by those with
such moral convictions.
- He will do whatever it takes to accomplish his goals, working around
whatever barriers are placed before him.
Ways and Means
Added Fri Feb 1 16:56:34 2013 at level 23:
I have a hut, which is what I wanted. Its not enough. Shamen took
offense at me killing a mage and decided to attack the giant to get to
me. I was headed there when the Drillmaster told me I get my hut if he
dies. I was going to kill him anyway but now what I wanted was before
me. No one was going to stop it. I actually strangled him, which
surprised me as much as him, since I did not excel at the particular
move. I knew blinding and poisoning wouldn't last long but It would buy
me time when he ran, and it did. I found him in the forest and ended it.
Arratok held his word and I build my hut from the ruins of of another.
I'm a villager now.
It is not enough.
Riches
Added Wed Feb 13 14:42:55 2013 at level 31:
I'm rich. Dacagias blessed me with more wealth than I will ever need,
far exceeding my goal when joining the assassins guild, and making my
retirement once this war is over a firm reality of whatever I want.
Perhaps an Inn, with my name above the door. Destinies End. Puck the
Mageslayer, proprietor. According to the Drillmaster, Bosephus was
amassing his funds for some sort of bard helmet. Hoping Grime could make
it for them to keep the songs from their ears. Seems stupid to me.
Haven't seen a bard come to the giant in ages. Be better to send them
all to school to teach them not to be stupid enough to be so moved by
music. But, the Drillmaster wants me to keep pursuing it, and even if it
takes two thirds of my money I'm still rich. They certainly aren't
getting all of it. Its mine now. Seems Grime isn't much of a talker
anyway. With that challenge over, next is my name. Seems all the realms
knows of my inheritance, some even how I came by it. I must change the
way they speak of me. No more will the whispers be of my riches. When
my name falls from their lips, Mageslayer will be word following behind.
Patience
Added Sat Mar 2 13:10:53 2013 at level 36:
Patience. For a human its quite possibly the hardest of virtues. We are
so short lived in comparison to the other races that we rush, the need
for accomplishment so great that we tear headlong towards our goals
because we know the finite time we are granted. Now more than ever I
must cultivate patience. The study of assassination relies on it. No,
depends. Depends on it. It is for that reason I write this, because I
seem to remember things better when I write them. And this is something
that I will have to remember to win this war.
I have accomplished much already in my life. Taken what I've wanted.
Succeeded in challenging myself. Small goals like four mage heads before
Tahren, or my first assassination to dedicate to Dacagais. And larger
goals. Gaining a hut, doing well in the Rites and showing the Lords of
Battle. Becoming rich. I always knew I would be a leader in the
Village, though I must say I surprised myself with it coming so soon,
should the Gods approve me as Arratok's choice. I had thought I would be
Mageslayer first. So why then am I not satisfied? Why does this
desperate need gnaw inside me? Why is it not enough? Never enough.
I've sat long in self examination and what I've come up with is this. It
does. It exists and I have to accept it. You expect this epiphany of
self realization to be amazing, but sometimes the truth is mundane and
regular. You just have to find the patience to wait for its arrival.
I wonder what the Village would think of my treatment of magi. They
would think me too nice no doubt. Most would feel the conversations I
have are to cordial. But being nice gains me the advantage. It drops
their guard down. I've seen it. They think perhaps I won't kill them
this time and it gains me time. And in time, no matter how small, there
is advantage. And to be truthful the intellectual and philosophical
exercises are entertaining.
I will be the Drillmaster of Battle.
And still it is not enough.
Same as I ever was.
Added Thu Apr 11 18:24:13 2013 at level 45:
Tok asked me if I had heard anything from the Lords of Battle. I had
thought he meant about Grime and the forging of the helm. Grime is tight
lipped, though I have visited frequently. And I do admit my patience
grows thin with his continued silence. Should he not have the capability
to forge it, it would be fine. We would know to seek elsewhere. But,
like all of the Village, myself included most probably, we project
strength. We do not admit when things are beyond are current
capabilities. Which I truly believe lets us achieve great things. It
will be what we win this war on. But, at times, we cannot see the trees
in the forest, as the outlanders say. And we do ourselves no service
by not admitting our lack of capability in something. As with Grime, who
I have told in no uncertain terms, that my patience wanes with every
stoic silence he meets my queries with.
Though the forging of the helm was not what the Commander was speaking
of. He had meant if I had heard anything about becoming his Drillmaster.
I told him no and tried to explain that I had been passed over once
already. He would not hear much of it grumbling about whom we lost and
who left us and wrong choices and such, but I don't think he gathered
what I was truly saying. I was trying to say that I'm the same person,
the same assassin, the same villager as I was when he first put his
recommendation to me. Vall did not even have his hut, so to wait for him
to become worthy to be named must speak of a flaw they see in me. And if
they did not think me worthy then, then I would doubt they would find me
worthy now. That was the point I was trying to make, but I think Arratok
just didn't wish to hear it. He is my Commander and my closest friend
and sometimes we do not want to hear about the shortcomings of friends.
Either way, I would not ask nor beg the Gods to become Drillmaster. If I
want it, I would take it from whoever has it, as I have taken whatever I
have wanted my whole life.
The trip North
Added Wed Jun 5 16:06:46 2013 at level 51:
Wasn't this easier? I remember it easier. A few months on the road and
I'm weary like a child. The popping sounds that accompany me upon waking
every morning. The soreness of muscles. The ache when rain approaches.
When did this happen? And, with all this, it seems my trip was for not.
I found none that could fashion the helm we seek. None that could even
venture anything more than crude, useless sketches. Still seems our best
bet is Grime. Be it his ability in creating the bard helm himself or the
knowledge of someone who can. And he has been ever silent on the matters
all these years no matter how hard I push. Tok tasked me with his but in
truth I inherited it and now as Drillmaster I have much more to do. It
may be time for me to choose someone else to take up this task. I will
have to think on it.
I had a dream about the Mage school last night. The children laughing
until I entered just as it happened when I stumbled upon them on the
trip. And then as one they turned on me. A bright flash and I awoke. I
don't regret having killed them, it was necessary. But even though they
were magi I took no joy in it. It is what needs to be done. The world
will be a better place when both the mages and the Village is gone
Passing of the torch
Added Mon Jun 10 08:12:55 2013 at level 51:
Arratok has ascended. My best friend and the person I looked up to the
most has become a God. That is a rather odd feeling. But one that will
have to wait to be meditated upon since I am now the sole leader of the
Village. I have taken everything I've wanted in this life. I have
achieved everything I have put myself too save two. Win the War and
finish this quest to create the Helm handed down to me by Bosepheus and
Arratok. But while I still focus on the War I have endeavered to still
finish the Helm. I have chosen Gilut to take up the quest and passed him
the money given me to do so. He is now the richest man to walk Thera and
he lives in a mud, stone, and wood hut. But he is of solid character and
resolute focus. I have no doubts I have chosen wisely. He will finish
what was started so long ago. Hopefully before this banshees cry I've
been hearing grows much louder.
Commander
Added Tue Jul 2 12:04:05 2013 at level 51:
The Lords have given me command of the Village. I guess fighting a God
herself was all the Rites that was needed. I chose my Drillmaster
quickly but know he will be a fine choice and now it is time to take on
the mantle of what a true leader of Battle must be. Some may think me to
kind or to pensive. That I seek council too often. That I am weak. I
will show them that council is necessary and most times welcome. As for
the rest, if any think I'm weak, they will see me in the Circle. They
will understand that I have attained everything I've ever set my mind
too.
And still it is not enough.
