Description

Here is a lean man with a gaunt face and sharp, uneven features. His skin is weathered and uneven. A crooked nose, long since broken, sits above a thin mouth that twists in a sneer. Strands of black hair fall about his shoulders in a ragged, unkempt tangle, framing his hollow cheeks. His movements are deliberate, and his muscles tensed as if ready to spring into action.

The axe split the log with a crack that echoed through the woodlands. Broghdin
wiped his brow and set another length of birch on the stump. The world was
still but for the rhythm of his work.

Then came the blast. An unnatural boom, from the direction of his cabin.
Broghdin broke into a sprint. As he neared, a confusing sight: the front door
no longer stood. A sliver of the side remained, blackened and smoking. Wooden
shrapnel had been expelled in all directions. Broghdin came to a halt in
the door frame and steeled himself as his eyes adjusted to the dim interior.

Alira, the love of his life, was standing with her back to the far wall. Her
face was wracked with fear. Between him and her, a short cloaked figure stood.
The intruder had his back to the door, and a wand in his left hand. His head
turned at Broghdin's entrance. A sinister smirk played on his lips. Broghdin
took one step before the man spoke. Just two strange words.

"izjfahiouqar eugfjshuai" 

Broghdin's world exploded in pain. His muscles seized, his vision warped. Pain
lanced through every vein. He tried to cry out but his jaw locked and his
throat refused him. He could not fall nor move. He could only feel burning pain.

It lasted hours. Broghdin stood a helpless witness, as he watched evil invade
and rip from him everything he held dear. When the pain finally subsided, he
simply collapsed amidst the carnage, lost for what else to do. The intruder
had long since left, entirely unthreatened.



Broghdin grieved and despaired. The injustice left him with one burning
conviction: that no one should lay claim to such absurd power. He sobered
himself to his new reality and committed to searching for the strength to
stand against such overwhelming forces.
