Description

Before you is a human male who despite his advanced age is such a fine specimen that he is hard not to look at now that you've noticed him. His skin is unblemished, lightly tanned, with short curly hair of the purest white. Severe but stunning azure orbs are set on either side of a perfectly aquiline nose, crows feet wrinkles framing their edges. His cheeks are blushed with health but wrinkled as they near his mouth, and his face is clean shaven with microscopic pores. His features are perfectly symmetrical, from his perfectly trimmed ashen eyebrows to his wide jaw and thick neck. His teeth might be the whitest you have ever seen on an adult, and are even and unbroken. His broad, muscular shoulders and chest are visible through a form fitting shirt with a low cut, which also reveals a tuft of white and gold curly hair. His muscles retain their bulging and sinewy quality, though the atrophy of being elderly has indeed begun to take it's toll on the slightly translucent skin, stretched to its limit in his youth. No dirt or misplaced debris marks his extremely expensive and extravagant clothing. His torso narrows down in a subtle V shape to meet a narrow waist and athletically muscular legs. His hands seem rough and strong, and supple at the same time, likely because they are perfectly manicured. The veins of his hands are dark, but a bit thin and even with the obvious maintenance look ashy upon close inspection. A large signet ring and a few other valuable pieces of jewelry adorn his fingers. His boots are polished to a mirrors luster, and he moves with confidence and grace in all things, the picture of mature alpha masculinity. His forearm is inscribed with a metallic tattoo which seems to pulse with energy, whispering of the power of dominion over dark legions as it is gazed upon. Upon the other is a sigil that can only be seen in darkness as a subtle shading of the skin, the insignia of the Shadow Sect. Myriad devices, powders, and wires are somehow make no sound as he moves.

Role

An Overview of the Prince of Princes

Added Tue Jul 21 20:49:58 2015 at level 2:
There are some men born with everything, and there are those who earn it
through sweat, toil, and dedication. Caecilius Abbington Lawson IV happens to
be one of those men who is both, and has always been. Jealousy rains down
like a monsoon on those he comes across. He has been a sailor, merchant, a
guardsman in three cities and four prisons including a short and mysterious
stint at the very male-unfriendly sirine ruled Glynmarch, warlord, a
statesman and an adviser to several, a tax collector in three boroughs and
even a cardinal, a title he only occasionally mentions. And the list goes on.

Caecilius is twenty five years old.

Those whom he used as steps as he climbed these varied ladders sling insults
about him in taverns, and rumors follow the man as closely as the stink
follows a pig. Never, though, to his face. Or rather, never does a man insult
him to his face and live to regret the error, and if he does by some miracle
live, noone on the outside looking in would call it that. Ruin comes to those
he desires it to, and he is - and has always been- very well connected, never
having to get his hands dirty, necessarily, though he has been known to
indulge. He is also complimented endlessly, either in earnest or by liars
keen to his game, but there is one descriptor never used for him behind is
back or to his face:

Humble.

To actually describe the man entirely is more difficult than it would be even
with men of modest means, but in his own mind he is the epitome of goodness
and intelligence; it is not without merit, the man was educated by the best,
his family could be said to bathe in gold and influence for generations, but
he is a man who uses order because he knows how to use it. He sets his sights
now on more than inherited royalty, power and wealth - he wishes to rule the
world. To him, it will be doing the entirety of Thera a favor should he
succeed. And obviously, he is confident that he will.

Rumors, Smoke, and Mirrors

Added Tue Jul 21 20:54:56 2015 at level 2:
Rumours heard at taverns, inns, bars and brothels all over Thera:

Magbedala, whore of Seantryn speaking to a svirfnebli Councilman whom is a
mutual business acquaintance...though, obviously not the same business...

"Why, his c*** is as big as your arm! Not that that is sayin much, haha!
Hells, I might just break you LITERALLY this night, councilman!"

Brumdlir, mercenary captain of Dagdan and a few of the upper echelon of the
assassin elite, including Kavan of Voralian, at the inn of the Eternal
Star...

"You can cross him if you want, Kavan. You know that prisoner who sits
armless, tongueless, toothless and legless, subsisting on bread and water yet
still? Crossed Caecilius. You know where his teeth went? He wears one as an
earring and gave the rest to a beggar who lives in a cave by Ayr Trinil! So
go ahead, with your dumb ass." The group chuckles and clink their tankards,
and Kavan walks out, blushing and crestfallen.

According to the registries in all of the protectorates, in the notes
sections of their internal documents...

"It seems that the so-called Prince of Princes has been busy as a vagabond,
owning property and stock in every city. As well as having at least two
wives, young maidens now turned women, and among them Reginald, mayor of
Galadon's daughter AND niece, he is apparently making a few young princes for
the next generation to suffer under in the same stroke."

Various children in the streets of Galadon...

"I heard he be eight feet tall! Burns men alive with his evil eye!"

"Well, I heard he once beat ten giants to death in front of a magistrate
right in the Market Square once, and the eleventh giant, who's boy is Adebub
who told me the story, HE got the warrant!"

"Aww, that's nothing," chimed in an arial boy, "I heard he can fly! No
wings!" The boy folded his arms and nodded vigorously, as if he had seen it
himself.

And if you ask Caecilius? If you dare to meet his noble eyes, as he smiles
upon you with his perfect teeth he will tell you with a low chuckle....

"It's all true."

Views of Imperial Law

Added Tue Jul 21 20:56:52 2015 at level 2:
The Shadow Sect is the only place for men who know how to get the job done.
The immortal lords of empire, in their wisdom, gave the sect laws that can be
interpreted by those willful and brave enough so that anything is possible.
And in a similar vein, that same wisdom holds true when applied through such
a shadowed lens for the Imperial Laws. He believes that those who earn title
of leadership are placed so because they know how to interpret the laws, and
should he gain even the title of Shadow Lord, he would interpret the law in
ways that might make the squeamish hesitate. The law to the letter, should
this be the case in the future, would allow him the power to spread dominion
over the land as the sun spreads its light. And this too, is how he would
imagine his interpretations. Those who have forsworn the oath should be
killed, to defend and to teach, but are protected in the cities. Those who
have sworn fealty to other cabals, however, and guard items that are by the
Emperor's Decree to be held within the palace would be slain in cities at any
time that these individuals kept them away from the throne room. The letter
of the law, but perhaps not the spirit, is how he views it. And in the law it
is to these councilmen and women and the Emperor to do the interpreting, only
bending knee if the immortal lords demand it directly. Law and order are
topics which he has given thought to for his entire life, and his breeding
had demanded that he act in ways that would leave him infallible to those who
are not his superiors. Should he rise to the top, of course, but he is a man
who wears it on his sleeve to those enough to see into his true nature. And
through this, and other grand efforts, he will come to unite the entire world
in peace, harmony, without poverty or suffering. The only price he would dare
ask: unanimous obedience, or death. The same that he demands of himself to
his patron, the immortal lord Destuvius.

Edict I

Added Sun Apr 17 09:40:55 2016 at level 51:
With this election and appointment by the Immortal Lords of Empire, I usher
in an era built upon the sturdy foundations of my own Lord Destuvius'
teachings, and upon the Law which I have protected and served all these
years. I will recall for you some text from within our palace walls,
paraphrased. "The Power of Civilization makes wealth, art, peace and health
possible." I will focus on peace, and hope that soon you will see what this
really means.

To begin, I call for three days of observation. During these three days all
of you Therans will be given peace from attacks initiated by the Empire, and
be allowed to hold your items at my discretion. Should you decide my offer
offer of peace is not sincere, remember that this was indeed my first
statement. As such, the first day is to observe Order. None of my troops will
attack your homes save in retaliation, and so use the time given to consider
carefully this most magnanimous offer which I have bestowed.

The second day is of Protection. If you have indeed enjoyed the protection,
then reflect now on how many lives can be saved by simply falling in to step
with the rest of us. Let us stand united against the pitfalls of our flawed
mortality in this world for at least this time, and be saved if only for a
short time. For those of you who accept my offer, let the peace and
protection flourish and endure.

The third day is of Reason. If you have come this far without incident, know
that I am sincere. Know that what I have said and offered are true, and
reasonable, and now put to use your reason. Take my offer of peace, for I am
bound by the law and my oaths, and would rather give peace and have it taken
freely than have my hand forced.

The law sets out guidelines for peace. They are as follows: Do not attack
centurion blockades. They are put by worthy citizens for a reason, and are a
means by which we protect those against the Lawless who would strike out at
the Bringer of Peace. Do not attack the palace, and you may hold your own,
and any item you please save the Codex during my reign without being forced
to face enemies on multiple fronts, namely the Imperial Army.

If you can agree to this, in writing, by the end of the third day, then you
are treatied in to peace. Your leaders, and your leaders alone will send the
Empire as a whole or myself missive, simply agreeing not to violate these
terms, and live in peace.

Praise the Grand Design.

Edict II

Added Sun Apr 17 09:56:02 2016 at level 51:
Council, we are at War with the world. But the Immortal Lords in their wisdom
set down laws to give us the power to be victorious in our efforts to unite
the wold under one righteous banner.

What follows are my interpretations of some important parts of the Law that
seem to go un noticed by lesser Emperors. I will be focusing heavily on
Violations of Laws, as this has been the largest area of error in the past.

Law one is the declaration of Imperial Law's supremacy. Any who deny the laws
supremacy publicly have violated this first law.

Law two is the declaration of Possession of Items, that the items are to be
held at the palace, and only Emperor and Council can decide they may lie
elsewhere. As of today, those who have ignored my first Edict have violated
this Law.

Law three is the declaration of treatment of Anathema. They are to be hunted
at all times, and you will notice this is not said to be specific to
Imperials. All are subject to the Law after all, and so any who refuse to
hunt Anathema have violated this Law.

Law Four is the declaration of Protection in the cities. It states that we
are not to chase an attacker to other protected areas and resume attacks, but
only retaliate in the city of the attack, and for a set period. The most
glaring error of the past Emperors, however, is that it also says that this
protection is null and void to ANY who have VIOLATED THE ABOVE LAWS.

As such, as council who are said in law Ten to be the interpretors and
EXECUTORS of the law, I tell you that you now have the power to attack anyone
who has violated these three laws in the ways I have described any place, at
any time. The Immortal Lords wrote the law this way, and this line has been
ignored for too long. I would wager that it saddens them that former Emperors
hold the Order of the Tribunal above our own Laws. Other citizens are not
worthy of this power, as they are not mandated to execute the law, only obey
it. You have the most power to lose, and so you will be the ones who are wise
enough to use the power so graciously given by the Immortal Lords and myself
with accuracy to the Law.

The rest of the laws seem fairly self explanatory, save for the eighth, which
seems mildly out of date. I will indeed make best efforts to inquire with the
Immortal Lords to discern if the Scarab, by way of their new covenant with
the creatures of shadow some call 'Nightwalker' passes this torch to them. As
of now, the Heralds are the only who have responded correctly to the missive,
and so it should make little difference at this time.

Edict III

Added Sun Apr 17 10:00:11 2016 at level 51:
In ages past, Emperors have been soft. They have made the mistake of thinking
the laws of the spire above their own, willingly or not. Such interpretations
are wrong, and the fault is of those lesser Emperors who do not take the time
to consider Imperial Law thoroughly. I have made Council Members aware of
these errors, and as such the Law is only now for the first time in eons
actually being interpreted, and executed, as is demanded in Law Ten of the
Imperial Code.

Citizens of the Empire have not been made as keenly aware, because as
citizens it is your duty to simply obey the law and look to your Sect Leaders
for guidance in such matters. Any errors you make should be met with
punishment, and your success with rewards. This Edict concerns the citizens
of the Empire more than the Council. As they have been specific instructions,
and those instructions do not include educating the masses on what is plainly
written, those of you who are not council and are given an order by a council
member are to obey it unflinchingly. Should you think that an error has been
made, your recourse will be to address that council member and the Emperor
privately via missive to determine if a judgement should be made. But as the
law is written, you have no cause to disobey even for a moment. The weight of
judgement will not fall on you unless you do hesitate.

The masses need not be educated, and that includes Citizens as of this time.
Dominion and Order are not established through questioning in a time when
action is required, but they do allow civilized discourse when the time is
appropriate. If there is indeed an error, and you acted on the orders of a
superior, you should never suffer for the mistakes of your superiors.

Concerning warrants, I wish it to be known that a warrant means NOTHING in
the eyes of Imperial Law unless in the gaining of it you actually violated
said Law. The cases where this can happen are in reality extremely limited,
contrary to the popular erroneous belief. You may rid yourself of a warrant
on your own terms if you so desire, but NEVER negotiate with a Tribunal to
turn yourself in. To do so is a disgrace to our laws, though none is written
specifically to address the matter, our laws do not demand your death
needlessly. Should you die, it will be with purpose for the Empire.

Order does not mean Tribunal Law. Take time to read the Law of the Empire and
Sect Law carefully each day, more than the sect guardians require, and
educate yourself. One day you may become Council or even Emperor when I am
gone, and will need to have strong interpretations of your own. Order demands
it, citizens. The ignorant should be left underfoot, still wondering why. As
with the Shadow, the sect I ruled for decades, if our enemies do not know our
movements, we can not be defeated.
