Description
Vaguely reminiscent of a vulture, this arial's true height is difficult
to judge as his legs remain slightly bent at all times, his posture hunched.
His wings are pulled close to his body much of the time, but do flare on
occasion, to some breeze or thought beyond your senses.
A wide variety of weapons are strapped to his body, within easy reach of his
taloned claws, marking him as a warrior. His armor is varied too, though
appears heavier than you might expect his kind to choose to wear, perhaps
encumbering him, and even being responsible for his posture.
Where gaps exist, black feathers glisten, almost oily in appearance. His
face is narrow, with yellowed eyes facing very much forwards in what some
must find a piercing gaze. His beak is short, hooked, and appears strong
rather than sharp.
His motions, when they come, are fluid and controlled.
Role
Dreams, and a feeling of being misplaced

Every night I dream. Dream of a city like home, but not home. But in
my heart, it feels like home. I feel out of place, when I wake. My
dreams call to me. The wind calls to me. I know I must leave.
Why is it I dream of a simple city, ruled by an emperor, sitting with his
queen? Of a dungeon below, where criminals are taken for punishment? Of
battlements, manned by row upon row of resplendent guards. Of a dark
stretch of road, where you could sling an egg at a mageling without fear of reprisal.
This home of my dreams, it feels so real. Less glorious than what I see when I wake.
Less interesting. Less challenging even. But it was home. Now, I blunder around
like I am lost. I had dreams of being in the guard, but they would never accept
me when I cannot remember the city streets!
Fighting is all I've ever been good at. Study never suited me. I think I will
enlist warriors guild and attend Galadon's academy. No book work there! Just
action to test even the sternest warrior's mettle, I hear!
Combat is in my blood. My parents say that I was born when the winds clashed against each
other. A sign of a life of combat. So let it be so. Let me test myself in the wider
world, and perhaps find a home.
I've achieved little in life so far, but I'm still young. This is just the beginning!
Humility and inspiration

It seems my fighting skills are not all that I thought, before I set out. Maybe
the guard were just toying with me, when it seemed I held my own against them. For
recently, I clashed against a warrior named Tarus. It was a fierce battle
and one I believe I won only thanks to the magic of a conjurer I had allowed
to walk beside me. In truth, I sought only his admiration, not his protection!
Having found Tarus such a testing foe, I felt self-doubt, briefly. I sought
to quash it by embellishing a little when I spoke with my guildmaster. But
when he heard who it was that I described as being such a mighty warrior, he could
not stop laughing! Apparently, Tarus is little better than a muscled ruffian, no
true warrior at all. When my guildmaster managed to control himself, he told
me that I'd best work hard with my weapons if I hoped to make anything of myself.
Far mightier foes than Tarus walk the lands, and I need to be ready for them.
For this reason, I have sought to test myself against stronger foes, but to learn,
not to fight to the death. A guard patrolling north of the Voralian City has
proven a suitable, though unwilling, sparring partner. It is as well that he cannot
follow me when I take refuge across the nearby torrent that pours from the mountains!
This will be a long arduous process, but I must keep my will firm, and persevere.
Swearing to the Empire

As I was sparring with my usual "partner", sadly a much harder task now that
someone has furnished him with a sword of bright mithril, the sharpness of which
I can attest to... now where was I?
Ah, yes! Anyhow, I was contacted by a recruiter for the Imperial Army! Imagine!
No mere role in the city guard for me. I could be marching to glorious conquest.
Taking slaves and concubines. Appropriating gold from those unworthy of it and putting
to good use. Building monuments to heroes. Building academies. Smithing
weapons for further ocnquest. Beating armor. And of course, taking my own share,
after the Emperor has had his due.
It should have been a triumphant moment, there in front of the palace. I took my
oath with as much solemnity as I could bear, considering I was anxious to get back
to my weapons training. Another oathed just before me. Unfortunately, I then
suffered the indignity of being covered with the blood of the one holding the ceremony
when a dire wolf ran in and tripped him to death. Hardly the inspiring start to
my imperial career, when it turned out to be the Marshall of the fortress fanatics.
Perhaps I shall have the glory of taking that one's head. Or perhaps give my life as
an example of how the Empire will always oppose their crusade. It is early to tell, and
in truth, I do feel some fear. But I will keep that to myself, and redouble my
efforts so as to be adequately trained when I must face him.
The birth of a fanatic?

Today I heard a priest, ranting as they usually do. But this one actually
spoke sense. I've never been a religious man, but his words stirred something
within me. Perhaps I recognized some inner truth to them? It is hard
to say, for while it resonates with my soul, I cannot point to proof. To
take something on faith alone is not in my nature. I shall have to think on this.
He spoke of a dwarven goddess, and dwarven ways. Few of my people would
heed such things, for we feel the brevity of our lives, whereas dwarves hold
to a truth in enduring. It is undeniable that the stone can endure much that
flesh cannot, but flesh too, can be stone, if one harden's the mind. The dwarves
understand too, of forging. Even as I seek to forge a weapon of myself, they
look beyond this, to forging others. And what both this goddess and I understand
is that there is no forge like that of battle. It can make, or unmake. Reveal
true steel, or flaws.
Yes, I must think on this, for it feels right.
A deepening religion

The more I think about Ysaloerye, the more her teachings make sense to me.
This is someone I could fight for! Instead, I am forced to pay homage to
a goddess who would see me dead, impaled on her burning spear. Our Emperor has
decreed it. Well, I will speak the words, but each time I do, it simply strengthens
my belief that the words are not for one such as I, and that my path is different.
I shall forge, in time. For now, I shall be the rock, and endure.
War Master

The War Master is dead. And a new one is needed.
Cagocluse is eager to take up the mantle, although he does not know
if he is favored enough of the Emperor. He has bled for the Empire, and
learnt from it each time. He works hard to improve his decisions in combat,
and cultivate alliances that can serve him well. Recently, he loaned a sum of money
to a Black and doubled his investment. But for now, he simply reminds the
Emperor of his existence, and loyalty. Oh, and of the invaluable information
that he can share with the Emperor. A way to keep himself secure on the throne.
Update
Added Wed Jul 10 07:38:41 2013 at level 51:
Cagocluse was unsuccessful in his bid to be War Master. It was not a surprise,
if he is honest. Jeberal is more deadly with his blades, and more beloved
of the Emperor. In truth, Cagocluse has found serving under him to be
quite tolerable.
He is starting to make a name for himself, at last. Not the most deadly
warrior, but one able to spring the odd surprise. More importantly, he has
found the drinking hole of the Old Biddy. It took spilt blood to get its
whereabouts out of Mikhian, but as most of the blood was Mikhian's, that was
a small price to pay for the information. Mikhian has proven something of a
kindred spirit, and a mentor. A surprise, given his reputation among the rest of
the imperials, and his heritage. His coaching has given Cagocluse more confidence to
test himself. The odd defeat has not been pointless, for Cago has usually accomplished
something before falling, be it taking back the codex from the outlanders, or
slaying a wizard of the fortress.
He hopes, one day, to meet the Old Biddy, but has been told by a number of fellow
warriors that she is rarely around when he is. Still, it is enough to live
according to the dwarven way of stone and forge.
Following her has made Cagocluse more loyal than he might otherwise be, for he
has come to admire that which is dwarven.
