Description

Before you is a graceful Elven male. He stands at nearly six and a half feet tall and his lithe, yet muscular frame lends credence to the agility of the High-Elven people. His skin is slightly tanned by the Theran sun yet still lighter in tone than most of the realm's creatures. His shoulder length hair is a very light blonde, almost white under the proper lighting. Much like the rest of him it is very clean and neatly kept His face is typically beautiful for the Elven people with smooth skin and prominent jaw bones that give him a dignified, almost chiseled appearance. The lone blemish this Elf carries is in the form of a deep, jagged scar which runs from the side of his long and slender nose across his left cheek before turning upward and stopping just below his eye. His eyebrows are the same light colour as his hair and arc delicately over his almond shaped, light blue eyes. His ears are long and come to a traditionally sharp point.

Role

(HISTORY) The House of Johlesianathas

Added Sun Nov 3 01:50:03 2013 at level 1:
In the Kingdoms of the High-Elves there exists a House that
over the past few generations has separated itself from the
rest. It is a noble family by the name of Johlesianathas.
While many of the noble Houses have dedicated themselves to
politics, business and diplomacy the House of Johlesianthas
has focused entirely on spiritual warfare.

Regarded as strange by some, eccentric by others and outright
insane by a few, the Johlesianathas Elves have trained each
generation in the arts of exorcism and holding back the
consistent threat that the Demons of the Abyss, Devils of
the Hells, and their mortal cultists pose to Theran life.

Considering themselves the guardians of Elven purity the
House has imposed a few commandments for their kin to abide by:

I) The purity of the High-Elves must be protected at all
times at all costs. Outside cultures have spiritual
weaknesses which the Shadow can use to enter the civilization
and the individual. Because of this all members of the House
prefer to use Elvish over the common tongue, prefer to worship
Elven Gods and Goddesses, et cetera.

2) Darkness infects Therans through what the House calls the
"Shadow Plague". This is a means of possession by which the
Darkness dictates it's will by using Therans as pawns. It is
the belief of the House that all mortal individuals are capable
of being possessed to one degree or another. It is the duty
of the House to save those who can be saved and end the suffering
of those who cannot.

3) All members of the House must guard their minds and souls from
the Shadow Plague by rejecting Sin in all of it's manifestations
This includes wanton bloodshed (which also leads many of the House
to become vegetarians), consumption of alcohol, lusts of the flesh,
deceitful thoughts and actions, greed and sloth.

4) The death of the body is nothing in comparison to the death of
the soul. Should a member of the House find him or herself possessed
beyond aid it is the duty of the other members of the House to
release them from the dishonour of the Plague.

5) Treat every thing with great respect. At all times be a testament
to the Light and the House of Johlesianathas. Pray daily, fast weekly
and never forget who you are or what you are fighting for.

(STORY) The Saga of Caldysiasiolidan

Added Sun Nov 3 01:53:39 2013 at level 1:
The present core of the House of Johlesianathas is represented by
Thaedysiasiolidan and his son Caldysiasiolidan (otherwise known as
Thaedysias and Caldysias). Thaedysias is the eldest of the House and
the High Priest of the family's archaic tradition. Caldysias, his
Eldest son, is the House's chief Demonlogist, having been trained since
a very young age in the culture, traditions and characteristics of the
Abyss and the Nine Hells.

Caldysias' potential was obvious from a young age. He assisted his father
in driving out dark spirits from people who ranged from farmers in the
remote hillside to a prominent businessman in the city of Darsylon, where
the family has made it's home ever since. It was during this time that
the House began to investigate the Cult of Zurcon, the infamous Demon-Lord
of Desolation who the High-Elves had long ago imprisoned. This cult, which
at times had mingled with the Scions of Eternal Night, seeks to open the
box which holds the demon and turn his wrath loose upon Thera once again.

Caldysias, a soul born under the sphere of Purity, was particularily
offended by the demonic goals of this cult and spent all of his free
time researching the Cult and it's shrouded mortal leadership. It was
from this research that he discovered the case of a possessed woman
in the desert beyond Hamsah mu'Tazz named Sheayla. The locals said the
human woman, once a simple seamstress, had begun roaming the desert
while speaking in tongues and speaking in blasphemies. It was said that
the woman had been visited by strange creatures ranging from cloaked,
lithe figures to terrifying orcs.

Upon meeting the horribly sunburned woman it was obvious to the Elven
men that this woman was afflicted by the Shadow Plague. Her small hut
smelled of rotten flesh and was infested with snakes. She spit insults
at Thaedysias in perfect Drow and spoke Elvish backwards. If she was
to be saved it would have to be soon.

(STORY) The Exorcism of Sheayla Moorson

Added Sun Nov 3 01:54:23 2013 at level 1:
The exorcism rite as practiced by the House of Johlesianathas is always
the same. It lasts roughly three hours and includes invocations of all
the Lords and Ladies of the Light. The various prayers used are a means
by which to tactifully taunt the element of the Shadow which infests
the victim. Once the conductor of the ritual recognizes which end of
the Darkness the Shadow represents (Demon, Devil, Spirit, etc.) he can
begin to focus the ritual to expel the darkness from the victim. It is
not uncommon for the being to free the person inside of a few minutes
depending on the strength of the creature, but the ritual is always
concluded in full for the sake of tradition, a notion that the Elves
take very seriously. In the case of a stronger being the ritual may
be run more than once in what Thaedysias refers to as a war of spiritual
attrition.

What they found in the hut of Sheayla Moorson was a force far stronger
than any they had ever encountered. The ritual was performed again and
again with the demon taunting louder and more crudely each time. The
father and son duo alternated each time, performing the ritual five
times a day for five days. Frustrated and exhausted Thaedysias decided
to try one more time before taking the woman back to Darsylon with them.

Nearing the end of the ritual the force in Sheayla seemed to be weakening
and Thaedysias demanded that the demon proclaim it's submission to the
blinding Light. Sheayla grimaced, blood running from the corners of her
mouth as she bit through her tongue, which she then spit at the shocked
Patron of the House Johlesianathas. His spirit weakened by this formidable
foe, Thaedysias slowly drew his sword from the sheath. He had decided the
woman was beyond care, a decision only the High Priest of the House's
Tradition is allowed to make. As he stepped closer to the restrained woman
he leaned in to whisper the Final Rite in her ear and in the blink of an
eye the woman ripped one of her hands from the restraint and pulled the
middle-aged Elf close to her and began to crudely mumble into his ear.

Caldysias ran to his father's aid, but just as he got there the Elf
separated from her grasp, falling onto his back and convulsing wildly
on the ground. Caldysias froze in fear as the possessed woman untied
her remaining restraints and lept through the window, running into the
cold desert night.

(STORY) The Fourth Commandment

Added Sun Nov 3 01:55:30 2013 at level 1:
It was obvious to Caldysias that something was wrong with his father from
that night on. He was unusually short with his answers and quick to anger.
He no longer prayed with the rest of the House, he ate openly while the rest
fasted and he stopped bathing. His once strong, determined eyes now seemed
cold and shifty. They conducted two more "exorcisms" in which Thaedysias
stopped mid ritual and simply slit the throats of the afflicted. Caldysias
felt this was unnecessary and soon began performing the rituals by himself.

It was during one of these solo rituals that he was again confronted by
another with an attachment to the Cult of Zurcon. A dark force that was
inhabitating a young boy in the Balator orphanage. During the ritual the
boy yelled in a growling, demonic voice: "We already have your father, Priest.
How long until we have you too?" It was then that Cadlysias realized that
his father was not simply depressed by his defeat, he was afflicted himself.

When he arrived back to Darsylon he was greeted by a member of the Royal
Guard who informed him that his father had killed two citizens of the
city and fled from the guards aided by a woman with no tongue. Caldysias
immediately armed himself and set out in search of his father. While the
guards rode north he went south, remembering tales of an altar dedicated
to the Demon-Lord just south of Darsylon.

When he entered the altar room he was immediately slammed into the cold,
steel wall by an unseen force. As he rose to his feet he saw before the
altar the figure of his father and Sheayla. "No more running, my son. All
this time we have been fighting, suffering and for what? I have seen the
truth and I know that is our destiny to see it freed upon the world. Join
us!" Caldysias, stricken with shock and grief, opened his mouth but found
no words. His father continued: "We can be free of all the limitations that
they have unjustly laid upon us. Look..." Thaedysias reached over and lifted
from the altar a simple iron dagger, the cursed metal seared his hand as he
lifted it, the scent of burning flesh filled the chamber but Thaedysias did
not grimace, he did not make a sound.

As he walked toward Caldysias the the younger Elf whispered: "Wethrinaer..."
(Elvish for Deceitful one) in reference to the spirit that now controlled his
father. Thaedysias stopped suddenly, his sparking blue eyes turning a hue of
red. In a flash the father and son were in battle, the father armed with a
blade of iron and the son with a longsword of mithril. As the battle raged
Caldysias easily disarmed the iron blade from the badly burned hand of his
father before throwing him to the ground. As he mounted the downed Elf he
raised the blade to deliver the final blow, looking down at his father he
heard a more familiar voice say: "Ndengina ta!" (Kill it). Caldysias froze,
his obligation as set forth by his family's creed fell aside as he remembered
his father.

(STORY) Of Sorrow and Fear

Added Sun Nov 3 01:59:13 2013 at level 1:
He began to shake, holding the blade above his head, blade pointed downward
to his father. While he grappled with the gravity of the situation he had lost
track of the other possessed soul in the room, Sheayla, who had silently snuck
behind him. Before he could make his decision she struck him firmly in the base
of the skull with a heavy candlestick from the altar. He fought away the darkness
of unconsciousness and staggered to his feet. He swung his blade in a wide swathe
aiming for the woman's neck but she was thrown out of the way by his now standing
father. Stepping inside the wide slide the Elf sunk the iron blade into his son's
face, scarring him badly on his left cheek.

Caldysias fell to the stone floor, blood rushing from his face. A swift kick to
his jaw flipped to his back where he looked up through clouded eyes to his father
standing over him, smoke coming from the burning hand which clutched the iron
dagger. Caldysias accepted death, he was defeated physically and spiritually.
But before the final blow would come, a volley of arrows struck his father a
half dozen times and the woman four times. The Darsylon Guard had tracked the
young Elf when they found nothing in the North.

Screeching with sounds that could only be described as demonic animals the two
fled from the temple and into the Vale. The Guards gave chase but never found them.
The blood trail was lost days later near the Loch northeast of Voralian City.
The Captain of the Royal Guards assured Caldysias that no one could have survived
the wounds those two had and that it was a miracle that they made it as far as
they did. "That area is rich with orcs, they probably claimed the corpses."

Caldysias wasn't so sure and he was eager to heal and begin searching again.
This, however, proved impossible as the King of Darsylon decreed that the menace
that was brought upon his Kingdom by the practices of the House of JOhlesianathas
was a greater threat than asset and the family was politely asked to leave.
The House chose to set up in another Elven Kingdom to the Northwest. Caldysias
entrusted leadership to one of his brothers and told them to continue to research
the cults. "What of you, brother?" he replied. "I will be going to Voralian City.
For far too long our House has been on the defensive. I seek to see this ended."

Life in Voralian City is radically different than Darsylon or any of the great
Elven Kingdoms. A busy center of commerce it is not uncommon to see all walks
of life passing through on a daily basis. Caldysias dedicated much of his time
to a local soup kitchen where he fed the poor and the unfortunate. It was from
here that he was first introduced to the Paladin's guild. The Paladin Code very
closely mimicked Elven common etiquette and the views of his family creed.

(STORY) Of Sorrow and Fear (continued).

Added Sun Nov 3 01:59:40 2013 at level 1:
The Elder Templar was both impressed and disturbed by his stories of demonic
possession and weakness in the face of his duty. He recommended that the young
Elf seek the guidance of Baerinika to better strengthen his soul and continue
his crusade against the Shadow Plague. Since then he has rededicated his life
to the study of the Darkness and it's weaknesses.

He remains tormented night and day by his failure to kill his father. The idea
that he roams Thera possessed by that which they had been sworn to destroy
is worse than any iron-induced scars he carries.

(NOTES) Goals and Beliefs

Added Sun Nov 3 01:00:39 2013 at level 1:
1) Caldysias desires to properly serve the Spearmaiden Baerinika and to gain
her blessing in his crusade against the vile. He views purity of the soul to
be the most important aspect of the collective as well as the individual. He
hopes to use this knowledge, coupled with religious zeal, to create a platform
for a stronger army of the Light. The notion of purity will be manifested in
every thing he does.

2) He desires to join the Fortress of Light as a Squire with the intentions of
eventually using the noble institution as a means to wage war against the cults
which his House discovers. He considers the greatest risks to the Light and all
of Theran life to be in order: Scions of Eternal Night, the Cult(s) of Zurcon,
the Cult of the Ruby Scarab, the Grinning Skull Village, the Empire, other
evil souls. He believes all evil beings are possessed in one manner or another
and that is why their aura is red.

3) He believes that salvation is possible for the possessed as long as they are
not ancestrally devoted to the Shadow. This means that a Dark-Elf or Fire Giant
are incapable of being exorcised while a human necromancer is not beyond all
hope. The family's tradition states that a soul must truly desire freedom from
the affliction and that the ritual just gives them the strength to do what they
normally could not. It is with this mind that Caldysias will determine which
beings are simply beyond help. Once that decision is made the possessed (willing
or otherwise) must be destroyed.

4) He believes that neutrality is a philosophical fallacy. He will work with but
never fully trust any who are not of the Light. Furthermore he is more comfortable
with other Elves and has a difficult time relating to other races. His use of
the Elvish language is common, especially when he is frustrated.

5) He desires to form a guild of demon-hunters and the righteous to aid in the
defense of the box that contains Zurcon. He will use this platform as a means to
spread the works of his family beyond the confines of their House. This religious
Order will also honour fallen warriors of the Light who they will canonize as
Saints of the Crusade.

6) He will do everything in his power to adhere to the commandments of his
House. He is guilt ridden at the thought of his father continuing to exist
somewhere in the realm possessed by one of the demons in Zurcon's service because
he failed to follow through with his duty. Because of this he will be zealous
in following the proper etiquette of his cabal, guild and religion. He will not
dishonour his name again.

7) Finally he continues the search for evidence of his father and the possessed
woman he travels with. He believes, if they still live, that they will be
influential in the mortal actions of the Zurconian Cult. He prays daily that the
Darsylonian arrows sent him to be with their ancestors in heaven.

(STORY) The Return

Added Sat Sep 13 02:31:33 2014 at level 51:
Caldysias' time in the Fortress was well spent. He climbed the ranks swiftly,
a testament to his training and zeal. At a time when the Maran were at their
weakest he rose to the challenge and was named Marshall of the Fortress mere
moments after being honoured by Baerinika with the title of the Maran.

Leading the Fortress was not easy, as the might of the Empire had grown
and the Chasm was tenfold stronger than it is at present. Caldysias persevered
by relying on the people around him. He delegated responsibilities and led
by example. He forged strong brotherhoods with men like Baelen and Amatrysti
while his infamously serious demeanor was tested by the love and friendship
of Andira and Keara. He focused entirely on his worship of Baerinika and
his responsibilities within the Fortress, however he was never truly focused.
No matter how hard he tried, no matter how hard he prayed, he was tormented
by the thought of his father roaming the world afflicted by the demons he
was sworn to fight. It was not until after he earned the tattoo of his Lady
that he realized he could never truly dedicate himself to purity until he
saw the past laid to rest.

Without much of a word to anyone, as he feared they would try to accompany
him, Caldysias set out in the dead of night. During his time in the Fortress
he had acquired, both by experience and coin, the location of many of the
Zurconian cultists. He went from shrine to shrine, temple to temple, cutting
down every adherent he found, many of whom were possessed themselves. But
he never found his father.

As he traveled he did as much thinking as he did hunting. He came to understand
that the mission his family was sacred and that losing his father was terrible,
but to allow it to rule him like this would only be a further defeat. Armed
with this peaceful resolution, he entered one last temple. Inside he found
no cultists, only an altar, upon it was a ring that Caldysias immediately
recognized: it was the golden band adorned with the crest of his House. It
was his father's ring. When he picked it up off the altar he heared a hissing
voice in the shadows: "He belongs to us. Soon, you will too."

Caldysias clutched the ring tightly and walked back to the surface. Without
a word or a second thought he began to march back to the Fortress with new
fire and zeal. He would seek to build an army to destroy the Shadow Cults
once and for all.
