Description
Standing tall, even hovering a few inches from the ground is a proud giant.
Gazing about with grey eyes, this light skinned being is massive.
Even among giants, he looms and with muscles bared beneath armors.
Wearing a smattering of different sorts, each looks used hard but solid.
White, short cropped hair fits his head beneath a large helmet.
A face, lumpy and battered, stares out stolidly though not without charm.
Hefting a very large polearm, this giant seems keen on personal space.
Role
A tribe in the North

Thunder cracking overhead, heralding the lightning storm in all its vicious
glory rattles the large hut. Situated in the mountain range to the north of
the continent, freezing wind whips through the cracks in of the shoddily made
abode. Despite this, a large cloud giant sits staring at the hours old
newborn resting in his broad hands. Glancing to the very large bed nearby, he
grunts. Himlook.likegrandfather. After a few more minutes of staring,
he mutters .Carg. Him.nameCarg. From that moment on, the son was favored
but never coddled by his father, a celebrated spear hunter for the tribe. His
mother lived on in pride, as such things go, as all who grew the tribe was
celebrated. Life was celebrated, and as things go, eventually the world
changed around them. Lost in time, pleased to live as hunters in the
mountains, eventually civilization came acallin.
Hazy days of youth

One day, as Carg was a young one, but nearing the age to go on hunts with his
father and other members he saw a group of bedraggled beings stumble into
camp. Half dead from frostbite and hunger, Carg saw that they were a small
people and far different from his ilk. Curious, he followed the crowd as the
hu-mans were lead to the huts to rest. Cargs father, Drom, stopped him
before he entered the hut they were led to. "Carg..stay..No..Come." Frowning,
but obedient Carg stayed outside. Little did he know, or any in the village
for that matter, but that fateful day that the Palduns came that oppression
and grief would cover the tribe in a shadow. Carg later found that this group
of four warriors of the light came with the permission of the King of the
cloud giants. Other groups of paladins had been dispersed among the tribes at
the behest of the king. The giants had little love for the light or the dark,
but the paladins brought gold, forged weapons of high value, and friendship.
These things were gladly accepted though the cost would be higher than the
giants could know.
Despair in the Mountains
Added Thu Oct 18 09:43:03 2012 at level 15:
It was only a few short months before the Udgaard patrols razed a small
village south of the mountain range of the tribes, and a vicious captain
began a campaign of torture and death of paladins and cloud giants alike. One
such occasion brought the udgaardians upon Cargs tribe, wiping out all the
women and children while the hunters scoured the mountains in search of food
so dear to come by in the winter. Upon returning to the huts burned to the
ground and the bodies of kith and kin alike littering the ground, the giants
entered a frenzy unlike any had ever known. Descending the paths like the
terrifying yetis of the North they fell upon udgaardian patrols. Taking
trophies and spoils, the score of hunters quickly became a target. All the
while, Carg thought back to the Palduns who brought the change in the name o
f the Light.
An ending in the North

Falling into an ambush, the hunters became the hunted and many were quickly
slain. Carg managed to drag his father away from the grisly scene of death.
Using a small cave, he watched his fathers last few moments of life.
Carg.golive. The passion for life and the imperative to live resounded in
his young soul. Despising the attitudes that brought Paladins and the Evils
of Udgaard into his life, Carg trekked south to learn the ways of the cities
and the guilds..He set out to find a new tribe, and to keep them alive as he
failed to do in his youth.
Vexed Journey South
Added Thu Nov 1 08:22:07 2012 at level 41:
Carg remembered the dark, frozen days following his father's
final admonition. The onset of winter had made his trek all
the more grievous, alone and bereft. The burial rites of the
Grakti clan, proud hunters and mountain dwellers, harkened
back to the early days when they sought the favor of the one
they sought. Known only as Skyfather, the small tribe believed
as all had once that the one who lightened their feet and showed
them the way of the hunt had come from the sky and made them
a people special and blessed. The final act of honor
for the tribe was to raise up the dead on a boughts of pine
trees, and leave themaloft held by young stout trees
ripped from the ground with bare hands.
Carg found the strength to uproot the trees despite
his tears because of his anger for the ones who had such
ideas that they would not let a people alone in
mountain range. Paladins good and Udgaardians evil,
these warring ones fought over ideals completely foreign
to the giants. Exposed to the avarice and hubris of selfish
ambition and the greater good, Carg stumbled south
on his trek to fill the empty gash in his life where his family
and tribe had ever been. Leaving the mountains for a time,
Carg sought out a trade in civilization that would allow
him to return to the mountains and the tribes
as one strong and able to withstand those that would
seek to oppress whether in the name of the Light
or in the name of Evil.
Within Arms Reach
Added Thu Nov 1 08:34:32 2012 at level 41:
Stumbling from town to town, Carg wandered about lost.
Lonely, and looking for a new tribe he quickly found the
way of Thera. Guilds. Guilds everywhere, with people
of all walks of life applying and joining and learning the trade
of whatever they chose. At last, finding himself in Galadon,
he one day saw the guildmaster there. "Carg..want..join..
warrior..tribe.." While it came out broken and disjointed,
he formed his words ever so carefully on the street corner
near the market square. "Eh...You must pay the fees,
and we do not be accepted pelts, mind. You may do the
guild good, but dues is dues. Come back, if ye be havin'
the money." Off to the weald and the docks, Carg went
as he found a pliable trade with axes and trees. With little
trouble he made the coppers and the silvers necessary to
join and then it was as an apprentice he lived. The guild life
is hard for all, though it has the payoff in the end and Carg
quickly found that his father had showed him well the ways
of spear use, though the guildmaster had set him down one day.
"Carg...ye be stronger than an ox, and quicker besides...Though
I ain't decided if ye are dumb as one. I don't be thinkin the spear
is for you, I think that ye should be using something a bit more
hefty. What think you of this?" Tossing him a long wooden pole,
Carg took up the polearm haft clumsily at first. "Carg..I want
ye to be practicin' with this along with your spear work and your
axe work..those trees make easy targets, but ye do yerself
good work what with all yer slicing and swinging."
Everyone knew the guildmaster had quite the eye for spotting
flaws and strengths in each guildmate. So it was with Carg, that
the next year he found himself fighting in the local tournament
with a pole instead of a spear. Sparring with one of the elder
apprentices, Carg quickly found his strength paid far better returns
and he could hurt his foes much graver than if he had a mere spear.
Losing the tournament, but finding himself with new prospects
in the guild, Carg quickly centered his life around learning the
weapon.
Admittance, Part one
Added Thu Nov 1 09:27:03 2012 at level 41:
Puffs of dirt mark the area where a large cloud giant passes.
Stopping a moment to take his bearings, this incredibly large
being gazes about. A large lumpy, light skinned face peers beneath
a large hat. Piercing gray eyes assess the area, above
a very grim set mouth with a profound jawline. White hair is just
barely visible beneath the hat. Dressed in a hodgepodge of armors
and furs, the armor he wears is in no way uniform. Gripping the pole
of a large pike as though it were part of his person, this giant
appears at the ready for anything that may come his way. Scars mark
his arms as a giant who has seen perhaps more than his fair share of
combat though he does not look as though he as ever taken a wound so
grievous his movement is hindered. Moving inches over the ground,
he continues on his way, ever peering about.
In Carg's final apprenticeship year, he returned to the tournament
as his master's piece to be admitted into the guild completely.
"Now, listen Carg, that bruiser with the maces that beat ye
senseless last year has been talking about how he do be
plannin' on winnin' again this year by poundin' ye into the ground.
If ye be winnin' this thing,
I will teach ye the real power of the pole."
Admittance, Part 2
Added Thu Nov 1 09:28:25 2012 at level 41:
Carg had no trouble making it to the final round against the other
apprentices. Standing tall on the floor of the arena outside Galadon
Carg surveyed his opponent. Slim and wiry, a human younger than
Carg hefted a pair of maces of no mean size.
Carg had watched this one
fight many times, and had been bested on nearly every occasion.
One point had seen Carg nearly forsake the guild for the shame he
had experienced but the guild was his only tribe and while he could
not like the shame, he could not shame himself further by running.
He had failed once, and the cost had been his father's life. No matter
circumstances or his youth, Carg felt a deep shame for the death of
his father. The Guildmasters from neighboring cities had come to see
the apprentices from Galadon as a favor from the guildmaster there.
"There do be no killin' here, but ye be fightin' for entrance into the guild
as full fledged members. Yer days of journeyman are at an end if ye
but succeed in the trade we ply. Nodding, Carg smiled the determined
smile of one who knew something his opponent did not.
Every new that Devereaux, users of maces, used insults as cutting
as his hammers were blunt
and everyone else knew that the guildmaster
favored him with extra lessons because of his drive and motivation.
Carg often had been drug to the healers on different occasions
because of those extra lessons. Taunted and jeered for a year,
he remembered keenly the ploy the human had used. Carg, with
all his heft of his pike, sent a blow so mighty that it surely would have
killed the man had he not caught the pole with both mace-heads.
Sending Devereaux crashing down, Carg moved in as though for
the kill. What he did not expect was the mace to come flying at
his face from his opponent so prone. That mace was the last thing
he had seen before awaking a day later.
Returning to the battle at hand,
Carg heard Devereaux call "Mace-face, I didn't think you would come!"
Carg merely smiled as he charged. "Carg..take..lesson..from..master
......secret..lesson...for..whole..year."
Admittance gained!
Added Thu Nov 1 09:46:06 2012 at level 41:
Charging forward, Carg feigned a mistep as he rushed in order to
allow Devereaux an opening to swing. Carg parried the blow and
began his counter swing slowly to stir up the contempt in
the man's already made-up-mind. In the last year, Carg had
learned quickly to hide his full strength until time and he had
deeply desired to return the favor of bone-deep shame to
Devereaux. Parrying and dodging in a mess, he kept Devereaux
from landing any telling blows but he took a few to make his
awkward dance look to be true. Flourishing his maces keenly,
Dev stole the heart of the crowd with flamboyancy and
showmanship, but this fight availed him little with the
actual fight. Carg patiently tired his opponent, he frustrated
him with his long reach and wide blows until he saw the
moment to act. Glancing off to the side, he smirked lightly
to his guildmaster before beginning a sequence of gigantic
sweeps and deep thrusts and left his opponent reeling.
In a flash, before anyone had seen his move, he completed
the overhead chop and left his opponent stunned and injured
on the arena floor. Turning to face his guildmaster, he saluted
and bowed. The crowed sat in silence..unable to discern where
Dev went wrong. Walking away, Carg reveled in his admittance.
Time Passes
Added Thu Dec 13 19:42:56 2012 at level 51:
Years had passed for Carg, studying in the guild.
The titles came with time, and Carg grew quickly
in skill and technique as a warrior ought. Taking up
the polearm under the keen tutelage of the guildmaster
in Galadon, Carg embraced whole heartedly his place
in the guilds though it soon became too little to retain his whole attention.
He reflected on the things in his past, the reason
he had traveled south and the sadness he felt at the lack of
peace in his heart. He yearned to return and right his
perceived wrongs, but he lacked the knowledge of how.
How could one fight the consequences of
the battles of the righteous and the dark-hearted
so that the people of Thera would not be destroyed
in the war of ideals.
In his travels between cities,
he began to learn of a place that embodied ideals that rang
true in his heart. Long had he lived as those of his race did,
not in indifference, but neither was it
in the far reaches of the pendulum that swung in people's hearts.
Neutrality had long been the way of the Cloud giants,
and he felt it in his heart. He reveled
in life but he knew that there was more in his heart that just that.
Perhaps he would seek out this Isle that sought to Balance Thera.
Seeking
Added Thu Dec 13 19:55:21 2012 at level 51:
"You have begun learning the polearm admirably Carg,
it is time to journey. You have spent a great deal of time
here in the city learning our trade, but there comes a point
where a student plateaus. You have, and you need to get
out and go ply the trade you have taken up. I am certain
you can find work as a guard for merchants if nothing else.
Seems Hamsah always has need of those in the desert."
The guildmaster had spent little time with Carg, as he
drilled himself mercilessly in the forms and techniques but
he had seemed to languish. Deciding at the moment to pursue
this vaunted Nexus and help the world how he could, he made
his way west from the city. He eventually located the magically
twisted place on the sea and felt a kinship instantly.
Pledging himself, he sought to learn the ways and wisdom of the
Seekers and Keepers of the Balance. It was not long after that,
camping in the forest to the south that he met one of the hidden
ones that kept the Balance. Robansan shared much with Carg
about their ways, and eventually declared "I believe Carg has
the makings of a Nexun." It was not long before Carg came before
Iklahn, and the wood-elf mettle-tester did not find Carg wanting.
Carg was Inducted into the Nexus, as a Seeker of the Balance.
Pruning Through the Years
Added Wed Dec 26 14:23:34 2012 at level 51:
Over the years of tending the Balance, Carg found that
he was more and more aware of the speed of change.
Like a roaring waterfall sometime distant, the final sleep
awaited him and it seemed to come for those whom he
grew up knowing so quickly. Iklahn was the Rhyme of
legend, and one Carg had looked up to as one part of
the whole that was the chief of the tribe. His words of
wisdom were dear, though Carg knew somewhere the
old wood-elf tended the balance in the heavens. As
so many had, the Nexuns who guarded the world with
Carg came and went, but Carg remained with the
small handful. Mylene did travel her secret ways,
and helped Carg, and Baylahn shared her knowledge
with Carg as well. The battles raged often with those
dwellers in the huts, and Carg fought with Kurbrawn,
he fought with Cainargen, he fought with Arratok and
so many others. Spending his lifeblood and strength,
he fought to keep the Balance, only hearing of the
final rest through the words in the cities. Carg
began tending a small garden on the Isle with the care
he thought necessary, as he tended to prune the
world with his axes. Felling trees in the Feanwyn
Weald had built Carg in a way that he felt comfortable
in the beauty of the Isle..Carg hopes to bring to the world
the same wisdom of culling that which did the world harm
as the Isle felt in keeping the Balance.
Gardening with an Axe
Added Fri Dec 28 10:35:23 2012 at level 51:
Fending off another peck from the ugliest vulture Carg had ever seen,
he swung his axes about, careful of the elf paladin and the healer.
Baylahn blinked about in her dog form, chomping on the Nightwalker
all the while, the four dodged blows and spells from Zhenyen's minions,
himself, the vulture, and the felar shapeshifter Kyo as a spider.
Slaying the Nightwalker holding the Orb, Carg felt a small shift in the
world, but not enough to bring the Balance from the Dark.
Taking a stripping spell directly to his chest, he quickly felt the
protections fall off in a rush. Quickly, a digusting demon blinded
Carg, and cursed him to hunger and poisoned his blood.
Unable to hold his axes upright, or even his bardiche, Carg began
to retreat. 'Carg....no..can..fights..anymore....has..go..heal!"
"Go!" the paladin shouted. Drinking one of those bronze flasks
from the Isle, Carg escaped to where he did not know. Struggling
a night and day against the curses, Carg slowly gained his strength
and beat off the worst of the effects. All the while, Carg reflected on
the fact that while some of the Nexuns believed him able to lead
the Isle was to be lead by Torgark...a young upstart that Carg had
helped reach his pinnacle. It rankled Carg that he had not seen the
young warrior often, and that he could not give his due respect.
Making his way back to the Isle, Carg fought off a vengeful vulture
one last time, narrowly escaping the Chancellor's wrath before
reaching the safety of the Isle. Taking time to tend his small garden
he had placed in the southwest corner of the rock and sand garden,
he reflected all the more. Carg had often thought that perhaps he
should learn to speak more clearly for his tribe, but he had yet
to do anything in the matter. He understood, with the passing of
a century, how important it was to speak well. Perhaps he
would go to the Inn, and have those songmasters and
speechmakers teach him their craft. Carg would serve the Isle
in whatever capacity he was able, but he would persevere
if no other would, for he deeply loved the Isle. In the midst
of the battles and pains, he still loved his purpose and his
tribe.
"Greetings, Rhyme!"
Added Mon Dec 31 13:44:40 2012 at level 51:
Carg awoke to a sound unexpected. "Greetings, Rhyme."
Carg looked about slightly confused, as he had had the honor
to greet the dwarf Rhyme only weeks ago. Offering his pike
to the direction of Torgark, Carg had rallied himself to serve the
Balance with a fervor undeniable. The newest Rhyme had slept
the last sleep, but not beforing seeing the mantle of leadership
pass to Carg. Little did Carg know that this mantle would be
so heavy so quickly.
Carg stood in the Eye of the Storm, meeting with the
Seekers about the swing of the pendulum from the Balance
to the light where the dark cowered. Like many times
before, the Light banished the dark-hearts from sight
with a heavy presence. Hunting constantly, they drove
the Imperials and the Scions into far places it seeemed.
Carg met with the one Imperial he knew to stand up to the
light. The Warmaster Charice had proven to be dauntless.
Days of fighting at the Fortress left the Light tipping the Balance,
but the Codex was hard to grasp from the light-blinded fools.
Those days left Carg to pay dearly, though he hadn't known it.
Chasing the warrior, Rahedra into the city, Carg zealously
struck for the Balance, though it cost him a warrant for his arrest.
Only a short time later, Carg discovered how badly it would
affect the Balance in the favor of Chaos. Knowing the price to pay
Carg returned to the Galadon to face death for the sake of the
Balance. Though the mantle was heavy, Carg carried on gladly
as the Rhyme of Resistance. Marshall, Drillmaster, Chancellor
be damned, these would not stop Carg from protecting the Balance
of the Thera.
Keeping the Isle
Added Thu Jan 24 19:37:15 2013 at level 51:
The years passed by, and Carg did his work gladly.
The Isle began to flourish under the care of the Rhyme
and Meter working in tandem to build and preserve the
Balance. Carg woke one day to something most troubling.
In the new Seekers, there was one who caused a stir in
the ranks. Elsmerah half-elven left Seekers to fight for the
return of the Key of the Balance of the Isle in order to
grow with elfs. While the Light was strong in the land.
No missives or words would wake the one who walked the
dream to learn instead of to help brothers and sisters
Keep the Balance and return the Key. Carg lifted the
heavy mantle of the leadership of the Rhyme of Resistance
on his shoulders and set to Keep the Isle. Carg gathered
the Seekers. The standout chosen stood at the Isle,
Djillian, Dulildore, and cloud giants Gartuk and Brun.
Carg peered at each, and admired the dedication and valor
they showed in Keeping and Seeking the Balance.
Seeing a large difference in the young Elsmerah,
Carg cast that one out of the Isle until such time that
Els would prove themself to the whole Isle to become
a Seeker in Truth.
