Description

Before you is a tall, thin woman of elven heritage. Her visage is truly a fearsome one in contrast to many of her high kin. Her skin, like other elves, is the shade of ivory, but tattoos of every kind and color mark her body. Most of them appear to be the markings of the desert tribes, while several represent the symbols of chaos and the spirit. In addition to the tattoos, piercings of every kind filled with bone jewelry can be spotted along her body. Most notably, the knuckles of both hands have been pierced and a sharp claw bones have been placed inside the holes. You can only imagine the pain that was initially felt for those. You tear your attention away from her body and try to examine her other features. Her hair is a tangled mass of long dreads matching the color of the Sands of Sorrow. She wears it tied back with a piece of dried animal gut, and at the end of each dread is a small animal claw. Her eyes, as they pierce her surroundings with keen discernment, are the color of rich green palm fronds. Despite all the body modifications, you marvel at her innate elven beauty and her fierce demeanor. Lastly, you notice a particularly interesting tattoo of a scorpion just below the outside corner of her right eye.

Role

The Omen

Added Tue Jan 18 01:09:30 2005 at level 1:
Under the sign of the desert scorpion, Carijisdun T'akulda
was born. She hails from the ancient elven desert tribe of
the Kantulshar, whose origins remain a mystery to this this
day. Much of their heritage though, as well as a mythical
beginning of how their tribe came to be is handed down in
oral tradition. However, as outsiders are allowed only very
little information and the village itself is hidden, to pry
this history from them is said to be like "telling the desert
to drink the sky," a common phrase of the tribe.

The tribe had had no contact with the outside world until
recently. The shaman of the tribe had been studying the stars,
looking for word of the Great Spirit D'shna's return when
a vision came to the wise men. In the vision, all the stars
of the sky fell to the desert floor and burned furiously
until dying out. In the wake of the stars, the desert was
turned to glass and the water poisoned. The sky became as
black as obsidian and nowhere in all the desert could be found
life. Then, a mountain sprung from the ground, shattering
the glass and sending it in all directions. The mountain
rose high above the desert and stopped growing just as its
base came to the edge of the village. It seemed as high as
sky itself. The village of Kantulshar was empty, with the
exception of a single tribesman cloaked in darkness. A spear
was strapped to the back of this tribesman who approached
the mountain with great caution. As they reached its base
the tribesman gazed up at its staggering height and then
slowly began to climb. The vision ended then.

The shaman of the tribe immediately discussed things with
their chief and it was decided that this vision had been a
grave omen. Knowing that inaction might displease the Great
Spirit, the chief decided to pick amongst their own a tribesman
to venture out into the world and ascertain the meaning of
the vision. Looking amongst his kin, he spotted whom he was
looking for, a young lass of just over a hundred years, fierce
and determined to do the bidding of the chief. He smiled
inwardly as he beckoned his daughter, Carijisdun over. A
grim nod and a few short words later, the young elven girl
strapped her spear to her back and made her way out of the
small village and out towards the Great Unknown.

The Tribe of the Refuge

Added Thu Jan 20 19:08:43 2005 at level 24:
Carijisdun, daughter of the chief of the Elven desert tribe
Kantulshar, found many new and exciting and dangerous things
in the rest of the world. Never could she imagine that there
of beasts destroying the forests like those in the Forest
of Nowhere. She traveled as the wind blew, praying guidance
from the Great Spirit D'shna that her feet would take her
where she was needed and that the meaning of the vision would
reveal itself to her. Such is how she had learned of the
Outlanders, or the Refuge tribe, as she came to call it.

Hunting within the Forest of Nowhere one day, she met a thief
by the name of Wimarsu. The thief had said he once knew of
the ways of the druid, as he used to live as one. The druid-
thief talked a great deal of things that bored Carijisdun,
but one thing that had stuck well was the mention of Thar-
Eris and the role of the Outlanders. They were a tribe of
hunters who sought to return the land to its natural state,
undoing the harm caused by those who lived within the stone
tribe of Galadon. Cari thought many of the teachings of those
of the Outlanders coincided with the teachings of the Great
Spirit. This had to be a sign from the Great Spirit himself!

It was not hard to find the Tree where the Refuge tribe hid.
In the desert, her kin tribesman knew well to spot the desert
snakes hiding in the sand. The serpent was most feared and
respected among her tribe. She knew this too to be an omen
from above, so she sat below the Tree and prayed.

Sting of the Scorpion

Added Fri Feb 4 23:18:55 2005 at level 37:
Cari watched her reflection in the calm pool as she started
on the tattoo of the scorpion below the outside corner of
her right eye. As she watched herself careful, she began to
reminisce on the past few years. She had joined the Refuge
with the induction by the Huntress. Since then, she had sought
to teach others through hunt of the ways of Thar-Eris. But,
what had she accomplished? She still constantly warred with
the lawmen of the Spire and the citizens of the Empire. It
seemed that none truly wished to listen to the ramblings of
a half-crazed desert elf. Though, she could hardly be called
half-crazed. She was dedicated and determined to her cause,
always willing to lay down her life when it came to protecting
others of the Refuge. Still, something seemed missing. It
wasn't her spirit, or her balance of the hunt and teaching
others. Something...

Carijisdun continued the dark tattoo of the scorpion while
she meditated in her own thoughts. The meaning of the vision.
She always mentioned to others of the fondness she had of
those of her tribe. She spread the teachings of the Great
Spirit unabashedly. Yet, it was as though she spent so much
time warring that she didn't find time to seek the reason
for leaving her tribe in the first place. How could she have
been so absent-minded? Perhaps, though, this was how the
vision would reveal itself to her. The Great Spirit was a
guiding light in the life of Cari, and she could only believe
that everything that occurred since leaving her tribe has
culminated into the gentle hand of the Great Spirit's guidance.

Carijisdun smiled inwardly as she finished her meditative
thoughts. Though she was unsure of what the future held, she
knew she was growing into a mighty huntress and an able mind.
All this, she surmised, was under the watchful eye of the
Great Spirit D'shna, who would reveal the vision in his own
time. Cari put the finishing touches on her tattoo, and while
the wounds were still fresh, she picked a baby scorpion she
had brought along up by its tail and then let it sting her
flesh where that tattoo was. Searing pain and then numbness
spread across her face and she smiled to herself as she waited
out the poison.

Reflection on a Hunt

Added Thu Feb 17 16:21:27 2005 at level 44:
Carijisdun sighed inwardly as she drove her spear through
the duergar who had taunted her from afar just moments ago.
This wasn't the reason she had been fighting him, of course,
as she was not a vengeful person, but rather she knew that
the nature of duergars was not to listen to the teaching
of an elf. Culling him would teach him to at least have
greater respect and trepidation when traversing the forests.
The bloody gasp and final death cry came all too soon as the
duergar fell to her hunting prowess. The elven warrior pulled
the spear from the corpse and slung the blood onto the nearby
grass. Another enemy has fallen.

Gathering a pile of dead leaves around her and with the proper
placement of a fallen branch or two, Cari faded back into
the wilds silently. She was glad to have a little silence
for the nonce. Silence in the forest was much different from
silence in the desert. It did take some getting used to.
Instead of the whisper of the wind and the beating of the
noonday sun and the quiet crunch of sand beneath one's feet,
there were hordes of creatures submitting to instinct within
the woodlands. Each vibrantly alive and making its own noise,
whether it be a mating call or building a home or searching
for others of their kind. Cari supposed there wasn't true
silence in the forest, but, hidden among the foliage, there
was peace. She took some time to reflect on the peace of her
own spirit. The peace she had been able to find, strengthened
by her time spent with the Refuge tribe, had lead her to
the spirits of the Totem of the Sun. There, she was given
the chance to be the voice of Ancients who walked the path
of light. Awed and honored by it, she accepted it with humility
and the mindset of becoming a great teacher. Thinking back
on that day, she smiled warmly as she felt the presence of
Innis glowing within her spirit.
