Role
Character Basis and Traits
Added Fri Jul 2 20:20:46 2010 at level 13:
This role is from an experience of a previous conjurer I had where there was
a temporary bug that made my djinn familiar look like the upgraded version
while it was instead just a mischievous djinn. He is the son of this
conjurer, and was conceived by her Djinn while he was "posing" as a sultan.
He has no knowledge of her since he was given up early on, but knows the
story of what happened, even though he doesn't fully know that he was
conceived in the encounter.
Character will seek to join the Fortress, but his first and foremost goal
will to be a follower of Baerinika, so he will help the Fortress at any time,
but will delay seeking to join or even pledge until he has established
himself as true follower of the Jaguar first.
A Djinn familiar is rather integral to the role, so I will likely keep a low
profile until 17 to see if it will work. My personal goals for the character
are to work hard to earn Baerinika's tattoo eventually, and also hopefully do
well enough with the role to possibly earn the upgraded immaculate sultan
djinn that the roll is derived from.
For character traits, he inherited some mischievousness from the djinn that he
was conceived by, and cannot help even in serious times making jokes or
playing tricks. As retaliation for one of his tricks as a youth, he was
forced to drink a seriously foul concoction by a bunch of angry peers that
left him retching for several days, and as a result of this he is wary of
drinking from anything that he did personally fill himself, and is
comfortable only in drinking clean water. To compensate for his finicky
drinking habits, he is very interested in trying various foods, sampling
nearly any food he comes across at least once.
Telling the Tale of my Past
Added Sat Jul 10 08:45:21 2010 at level 21:
I will tell what I know from my past as it was told to me, at least so far as
I can with the splotchy recollection of a when a child is told a story and
tries to recall it again years later.
I don't know that the woman who told me the story of my mother actually knew
her that well, so most of what she told me may have been spun from her
wistful thoughts in attempts to get me to shut up and go to sleep. But I do
recall her mentioning the Sultan of the Djinn several times, and that is what
stuck within the wandering thoughts of my young mind to be able to be
remembered even now.
She told me that my mother was able to touch the planes of the angels
themselves, and that she called on them to aid her to stand against those
that are taken with dark ambitions and combating these people along with
others of the Holy Brigade. As part of her gifts, she was attuned to a djinn,
a mischievous but cherished ally appearing much like a human, but supported
by whirling wind and glittering smoke instead of legs. They worked closely for
a good long time, but she was very stoic in her war against the darkness of
the land, and the djinn was increasingly persistent in his efforts to appease
his itch for tomfoolery.
One day, with no warning, when my mother called for the Djinn she was taken
aback to find her call answered by a Djinn quite different than the one that
she had been met with each time before. This one had something about him, an
air of authority, bordering on arrogance but but in the way that one would
follow them rather than be put off. She was rather confused, and questioned
the Djinn as to why they had answered her, and she was informed that this
Djinn was the Sultan Djinn, and that he had come to her in place of the one
she has been accompanied by until then. This was done by his choosing, and
that was his right as Sultan. She was quick to accept this, as she was not
one to meddle in the ways of the Djinn and their hierarchy, and some time
passed before she would learn that she had been duped.
Telling the Tale of my Past (pt.2)
Added Sat Jul 10 08:46:29 2010 at level 21:
It was some months passing before her original djinn appeared again just as
abruptly, and she was understandably irate to learn that her familiar had
been cavorting as the Djinn sultan in disguise the entire time. The Djinn had
apparently done quite well of maintaining the facade until she herself had
spread word that she was blessed with the Sultan of all Djinn to aid her and
the whispers eventually fell on the ears of the true Sultan, who quickly put
and end to it all. She was rather put off by her Sultan impersonator for some
time, and I remember the woman that passed the story on to me mentioned with
tears in her eyes as she held back laughing that the ire of a woman scorned
pales in comparison to one who felt affection for someone that was not who
she thought they were. But she oddly told me that such mistakes often bear
unexpected fruits and patted my head as she told me it was time for sleep.
The Djinn Sultan was mentioned often to me as a youth in other situations,
most often as part of scolding for some childish mischief I'd been in, but
the stories she told have stayed with me, and are what led me to seek out the
arts of conjuration myself. I never knew her, but I also strive to follow the
ways that I imagine that my mother did as well. She made sure that I was
provided for, and the various families that raised me over the years are all
my family still, as are all the good hearted souls of Thera. I will
fight for them as she did, and perhaps still does, and stand with celestial
allies against the wicked, and anyone else not of the light that threaten my
expansive family. A djinn has come to my aid, as one did for her, though I
expect word has spread through their kind that impersonation of a sultan is
not a wise game to play.
Life Going as Planned
Added Fri Jul 30 11:45:52 2010 at level 28:
For the most part, things are going as I would have planned them.
The most striking thing to me at this point in my life is the impact of the
Djinn. He has been more than just the companion that I would have expected
him to be when he first answered my call, he has been like an oracle to me at
times. A word here, a wink another time, he helps me in the discisions that I
make day to day and any time I follow the lead he offers it turns out to be
for the better, and when I disregard what he suggests the opposite happens.
For the most part, I have given in to accepting his suggestions and it has
proven to be better for the family and myself, so the decision to do so is
not a hard one to arrive at.
The Fortress feels like a home to me, and quickly the feeling was in coming.
It is much akin to the feeling of a new foster home that I still remember
from growing up, but with a purpose. The personalities are varied, as to be
expected, but we are without doubt integral to the larger family that makes
up all of us of the light. There is even the welcome presence of Matron and
Patron gods themselves, members of the family that lived their lives in such
a way that they were set apart forever to care for all of us, and at the same
time allow us to grow ourselves. One of them, Nnaeshek who is freshly passed
from brother to Patron, has spoken with myself and the others often, but I
feel all of them even when I cannot make them out, and hope to step as they
would see me tread.
I believe Nneashek, the Warlord he is called, may have not approved of how I
called on the angels and elemental aid to strike down a bard by the name of
Delpharis. I came on him in the swamps near a burned forest, or the Djinn did
first, and he told me I needed to come along quickly as well since this bard
was striking at those of the family. I made haste to help, but when I arrived
I saw with the vision of the Mantle that this bard was not a true enemy to
the family, and pulled from my intent since I saw him only standing amongst
the K'Sra. However, when I moved to join them, I saw him strike them without
hesitation, and their angst and pain compelled me to fight as they did, and
see that they came to no more harm. The bard fell, and I spoke with him after
and told him to seek out the Sz'Weh instead, in the other village, and he
heeded my words. Nnaeshek, the Warlord himself, cautioned me some time later
of my actions that words in many cases should come first, rather than
actions. I heed his words still, and keep them in mind, but still do not
think I could stay my hand even for the time it takes to form words when I
know my family is under the blade of another.
There is another watching that I feel, a Matron of the family, that I have
yet to interact with, but hope to seek out soon. The Spearmaiden she is
called, and a fitting name for her from what I have learned so far.
Current Cliffnotes - Past:
Added Fri Jul 30 11:52:49 2010 at level 28:
-Mother was a conjurer and was tricked/seduced by a Djinn familiar posing as
an Immaculate Sultan Djinn
-He has no idea that his father is his mother's familiar, conceived while the
Djinn posed as Sultan
-Raised by foster families that were sponsored by the Fortress - Mother was
fighting for the Fortress
-Knew mother only from stories and saw her as a storied heroine
-Pursued a life when coming of age much like he knew he mother did, a Maran
Conjurer
-Only drinks water, loathes the thought of any other drink because of an
incident in his youth with others gave him a tainted drink in retaliation for
a prank he played first.
-Eats nearly anything, but will joke about orc blood on a plate being beyond
his palate because of a comment from another adventurer
-Saw Djinn answering him as a familiar as destiny and part of his bloodline
-Foster life led him to see all beings of goodness as part of what he calls
his family
-Gods of light are seen as mothers and fathers of all who are also of the
light
-Evil especially, but also anyone else harming members of the family are seen
as someone he is duty-bound to combat, so that the family can live as it
should be able to.
-Purity is primarily reflected in his desire to keep the family unchanged by
those that are not part of the family, but facing those that are true enemies
to them all, and those that even if not truly evil make themselves enemies
at the time of their actions.
-Behavior partly reflects Djinn in taking some things lightly, although he is
quite dedicated to the task at hand of following the Creed of the Maran
-Primary drive for fighting as a Maran is to put down anyone that is an enemy
to his family
-Think highly of Bearinika, and has thoughts to try to follow her religion
Current Cliffnotes - Present and Future:
Added Fri Jul 30 11:54:33 2010 at level 28:
Present
-Increasingly thinks of his Djinn as an oracle, acting how the Djinn
indicates he should, either in specific words from the Djinn itself, or from
what he sees through its eyes
-Slightly conflicted over killing a non-evil bard that was killing K'Sra
hunters. Nnaeshek pointed out that the spear should not easily be so easily
thrust. Not as concerned about killing the bard, he was killing memebers of
his family after all, but concerned that the thought of speaking to them first
when seeing they were not tainted as true enemies did not come to his, nor
the Djinn's mind. Knows from Nnaeshek that he was trained by Bearinika, and
wonders if he is not suited to if he does not inherently think like one of
her followers would have.
-Is not advancing in the guild on suggestion from the Djinn that he is not
ready to yet
Future Plans
-Some sort of a disagreement with the Djinn, where it thinks he should do one
thing, and he questions if the Djinn is really the oracle he thought he was
-Hoping to use lack of listening to the Djinn anymore to lead into possibly
getting upgraded familiar someday, as if Sultan replaces him when he fails to
keep him on the path they see for him.
-Will eventually learn more of his heritage (Djinnish father) either from
Djinn trying to get back in position of leading him, or from Sultan Djinn
when it comes to him.
-Wants to be a Maran like he knows his mother was, but would find the thought
of any leadership as foreign, being much like the Djinn in his ways.
An Unexpected Turn
Added Mon Sep 6 12:10:34 2010 at level 32:
I still feel at a loss without the Djinn ever by my side.
I see now that I was letting him dictate my actions far too much. Not that
the decisions were not ones that I would arrived on myself at all times, but
even so, if an action is taken by my hand, it should come from a decision
that I made for myself. Not on the unending guidance of someone that by most
account should be following my lead instead of a reversal of those roles.
Even still, I miss the Djinn fiercely. All my life I had not known anyone of
the family that I knew beyond doubt would be there with me for all time. No
personal home of my own. No roots of my heritage to recall. A family all
around me in those blessed by the Light, but still no true blood family. The
Djinn was the only one that I'd thought would be by my side from the time we
met, till the time for me to breath my last came. Alas, it seems it was not
to be.
Despite the loss and the the emptiness that I feel, I have strived to take
the advice given by Father Adekar. I pull the mantle of the Maran ever
tighter about my shoulders and remind myself that my duty to the Family goes
on still, with new duties being seen and met as well. I am young still, in my
own age, and my ascension in the guild, and there are brother and sister
squires that scratch their head when they look on me, wondering what to
address me as. I tell them the most fitting name to me is brother, but they
wonder about calling me elder, or Maran, and I must remember part of my duty
is to now lead them. It is foreign, but still something I see the way opening
before me to fulfill it.
I am not sure if I will ever feel the answered call of the Djinn, but even if
I am blessed again to have them by my side once again, I will make it clear
that I lead them, and their council is that alone. I hope that the Sultan the
Djinn spoke of will see to it that my call is heard once again, but if not, I
will continue to protect them with the backing of my brothers and sisters of
the Fortress as I do for all of my family.
Reflections
Added Fri Dec 3 18:45:53 2010 at level 51:
I've wanted to write out my thoughts for some time now, so as to get them on
paper to help keep strong grasp on who I am, and who I need to be, but as
always, I start thinking on it and something more important comes my way. An
enemy to pursue, assaulting the Palace, or the pit, or helping others do
their same duties in any way I can. So I end up burning the parchment to
start fresh another time, and it happens the same.
So, to break the cycle, I will write on things from a different vantage, one
looking at what I have done, and what I still plan to do.
I am glad to write that thinking back on my outlook before stepping foot into
the academy, I have done more than I ever thought I would, or could. I was
driven then by a desire to be like someone I never met, at least not beyond
her birthing me, and feel that she is watching me from afar and is proud.
Serving as Marshall was unexpected, and daunting at first, but in time I have
grown comfortable with it, and am glad to be able to talk with so many
seeking to join in the fight we face.
Many enemies have fallen, and many more have cowered away from having to face
the Angels and Archons that aid me.
My only regrets are than I have not found a grasp on the religious aspects of
how I live my life. Perhaps it is not in my makeup. I have at times gone to
the misty ruins and looked around the place, seeking the words to whisper to
the heavens, or think of additional deeds that I might do, but nothing seems
natural to me. My respect for the spearmaiden grows, and I have had the honor
of speaking with her at long last, although briefly, but I have also
displeased her I know, though I am not certain for what. I know there were
some mistakes at the time when an applicant was brought in as a Squire, when
they intended to be a Scribe, which drew disfavor able words from whom I can
only assume was my Lady. Looking back as my body now shows such signs of age,
I do wish I could have found the path that would help me learn to be a
servant to Baerinika more directly, but perhaps my service to all those who
face the wicked has been more what I was meant for anyhow.
Duty goes on, and I am eternally honored to have served my Family, and to
continue to do so for so long as I am able.
