Description
A wild tangle of unkempt color bounces with the quick movements from this
incredibly small gnome. Hairy beyond reason. Twisted snarls exploding out
from both ears, the crimson-hued curls winding down to merge with the vast
gull's nest that is his beard, which in turn engulfs his neck and continues
downward, unabated, to what is visible of the gnome's bulging little chest.
This chaotic swirl climbs upward to fur his cheeks - conjoining on the way
with the twin juts of nostril hairs, as if the gnome had thrust two tiny
uprooted trees up his nose - only to then merge uninterrupted with the sprung
hemp ropes that are his eyebrows. Deep amber in color, their fiery hue is
marred with dirt and grime - the occasional twig poking through. Reminiscent
of the unending tall grass from the Udgaard Plains, this gnome is clearly a
woodsman or ranger by trade. Skilled in the ways of combat, he holds his
weaponry with a firm determination. Armored in the scraps of battle from a
hardened life, most pieces of the light armor seem self-tailored and sheared
to fit his incredibly small height. Among his armor is a glittering ivory
symbol of the Jaguar, hanging from a simple chain so it bounces with freedom
among this red jungle. Barely reaching two and a half feet, he is much
shorter than most of his age but seems to try and defy this with his bold
stance. Mature in his years, his scrunched face is filled with a constant
smile and a pair of weathered veteran eyes that have seen too much - like
pools of icy azure, deep wrinkles encase his eyes and do little to hide an
internal sadness. His movements seem agile and in defiance of whatever haunts
his past, always moving to continue on his journey in life.

"LEAVE HER ALONE!" screamed the young gnome, clawing and desperately trying
to escape the grasp of his frantic mother. As tears streamed down his face,
amidst gasps for air he continued to scream louder and louder. "SHE DIDN'T DO
ANYTHING!"
Several families gathered to watch the scene unfold near the gates to
Hillcrest. Two guards sat nervously at the ready, blocking the screaming
child from approaching the gates. The large copper-plated gate rattled from
the panicked thrashing of a young elven girl outside, pleading to be let in.
"It's ok baby, it's ok... you're safe. We're not supposed to get involved..."
The mother in a saddened state of denial tried cleaning the wild hair of her
son who fought even harder to break through. The young elven girl had been an
escaped prisoner of the Loke farm - a friend of her son. "It was never
supposed to be like this... we're not supposed to get involved, honey....
it's not our place."
"THEY'RE GOING TO KILL HER!" Stars filled Corzu's eyes, swallowing giant
gulps of air in between his screams. The vice tightened around his small body
and he could do nothing... until he bit down, hard. His mother's arms flung
back as she yelped, giving him a moment to charge the gate. Despite his act
of bravery, the two soldiers stopped the child easily. "NOOOO!"
The young girl trapped on the other side screamed - her captors had arrived.
Begging for anyone, for anything, her words were almost unintelligible as
panic overtook her. "Please!" Corzu replied back, muffled under the armguards
of a soldier "Let me go! Noooo-" The outburst ended immediately as a small
concussive blast slammed into the gate, knocking all the gnomes to their
knees. Through the cracks of the gate, blond hair matted with blood was
forced through by the spell blast.
Corzu watched in horrified silence as the hair returned through the cracks,
as the girl's body slid down the gate with a sickening thud. A vision that
would burn into his memory forever. Wracked by shivers of pain and sadness,
Corzu flung himself from the guard's grasp and collapsed against the gate.
His mother rushed over and draped a cloak over him, trying for comfort and to
hide him from the prying crowd. He closed his eyes as the tears stopped
flowing, his young body forcing an exhausted sleep. The words of his mother
followed him into darkness where the nightmare would repeat for years to
come... "We are to remain neutral, child."
Courage is being scared to death...

The events of that day haunted Corzu and turned him into an outsider - always
fighting back, always questioning, always not accepting the "wisest" move to
not get involved. Hillcrest had hidden itself away from the world and wanted
nothing of it, while atrocities happened outside its walls daily. He began
taking trips outside the city alone, wandering the around the ponds or
skipping along the Plateau Road. The trips grew in length with the years of
his life until one day he never returned.
Corzu had found his way to the plains of Udgaard and quickly joined the fight
against Loke's Farm - their crimes would not go unpunished. The OneHearts who
inhabited the rolling plains quickly took the spirited youth to join their
cause. Corzu was abnormally small for his kind and posed little threat in his
youth but his loud battlecries and endless spirit lifted the minds of those
who had fought on for years. He quickly gained the nickname "Big Red" for his
fiery red hair and huge heart. They taught him how to hide among the fields
of grass, how to surprise his foe, and other ways of the wild. The little
youth grew older and hardened over the years into a surprisingly effective
thorn in the side of evil.
Then one day, everything changed. A commotion had erupted down the Nanthor
river. Corzu and the others arrived to see the killing blow against a paladin
- a spear pierced through his chestplate. Angered by what had happened, as
for everything he knew was that the paladins fought for the good of this
world, Corzu was directed to the temple.
"Why was the Paladin killed?!" Corzu demanded.
"He returned with vengeance in his heart, my child." replied the Chief
calmly.
"Vengeance for what?!"
"One of your brothers traveled far to the south. Burned the farms of those
who would cage animals and sunder the Great Land."
Corzu answered softly, confused. "Why.... why would he be so angry about the
burning of a farm?"
Without missing a beat, the Chief responded "The paladin sought retribution
for the death of those within them."
Corzu stumbled back as if a blow had landed on his chest. Screams of a young
girl from long past haunted him. "You killed innocent people?! WHY! Why would
you do that!" With a saddened tone, the Chief tried to answer kindly. "Those
that defile the land that serves us all, and cages the animals who desire to
be free, must pay for their crimes. You know this." Corzu was slowly
spiraling into a clouded rage "Pay for their crimes?! You mean the deers that
we kill and skin daily mean we should burn our children!" The Chief tried to
remain calm. "No, we understand the ways of life and seek a balance. They
take and destroy, they do not obey the Cycle."
Corzu had already turned to walk out of the temple. A hand rested on his
shoulder just as he was about to open the door out. "Where do you go, Big
Red? You must understand..."
continued...
... and decided to move forward.

"I'm going to the far south." He shook the hand free of his shoulder. "I'm
going to protect those there and anyone else who cannot fight back." Turning
back to the Chief, Corzu glared deeply at the Chief and responded in a solemn
voice filled with sadness and pain, "And I'll kill anyone who seeks to harm
them. I may not understand your reasoning and that's fine...." A tear
streamed down his face as he turned away. "I've never been 'wise' - but I
know I'm right."
Walking from the temple, Corzu yelled in a loud voice as he stomped off.
"Threaten the innocent and you have to come through me!"
What haunts you now, Corzu?

A howling wind tore through the mountain path, a small flurry of snow chasing
after it... at least that's what most would see. Corzu watched with a smile
as a flock of ghostly rams rampaged down the path outside the Fortress of the
Light, chasing something unknown as animals do, to end their charge prancing
about down below. From his vantage point he could see their translucent forms
fade away in the valley, knowing they'd reappear again shortly to repeat
their infinite cycle.
Stretching his back from within his hidden nook on the mountain side, Corzu
felt like pondering while he awaited the coming of his enemies. Their
assaults had been endless and the war never gave much time to reflect but now
seemed the right time. Stopping one of the ghostly rams, Corzu asked it to
keep watch while he aimed his eyes to the sky above. Something about the
endless open space always made him think.
Life had become interesting as of late and it wasn't just his new ability to
see spirits. Their endless dance among Thera and the help they provided was
indeed interesting, even downright helpful, but it was something deeper that
struck Corzu in that moment. It wasn't the fact that he had taken a step from
his kind to walk a different path, a better path. Among the guidance from
Lady Baerinika, calling it interesting would downplay the impact it had on
his soul. He was with a new family, on a new path, and among those that
understand his choice. No, it was something else.
What he found interesting was that among all the thoughts that had passed
through his head since birth, not a single one would have placed him here. In
this exact moment, it was unknown. He had no clue that the steps, albeit
chaotic, in his walk of life would somehow land him here, on this mountain,
fighting in this war, with the spirit of a ram to help him out. What would be
next? What would come be his next challenge? Would he be able to continue on,
would he falter? Would he fall to his enemies and add his weapons to the
forest of iron growing outside the Fortress. What if h-
"HEY!" barked the ram. Snapping out of his gaze at the sky above, Corzu
lowered his head and saw where the ghost was facing - Imperials. As he
prepared for the assault, Corzu instinctively tried to pat the ghostly beast
on the head for thanks. The ram snorted and replied "Posture for battle you
will." As Corzu got into place, his last thought before battle was "What
the... Leata came back as a ghost?!"
