Description
Odd. Very odd indeed. Black skin, purple eyes, white hair, all the things
usually associated with dark elves. But while the basic features confirm
her race, each of the specifics is... off. And not in a good way. The eyes
are somehow wider and narrower. The nose is flatter, wider. The hair is
less silver than white. The cheecks are almost boneless, no definition
or typical height. It's as if the face were somehow painted rather than
born. No scarring, no marks, just a complete unpleasant depiction of
what someone might think a darkelf would be, but getting each bit wrong.
The rest of the body seems normal, the lithe form, quick but not
particularly strong, an a host of magical apparatuses attached one way
or another to the rich garments. Absent a closer examination, you see that

Being different is not a benefit in Teth-Azaleth. It is no asset or blessing
or estimable quality. Quite the opposite. Order. Rigid, eternal, brutal order,
that is the heart of dark-elf society. A matriarchy unbroken for longer than
recorded history. A religion imposed since the beginning of mortal existence.
Castes, impenetrably defined and separated, generation after generation. It is
awesome, in its way. But no chink in that societal armor is allowed. No deviation
permitted.
Czorzhinka, of course, was delighted by all such rigidity, being one of those at
the top of the pyramid. Granddaughter to the Matron Mother, second in line to
the throne, she basked in the glow of power and wealth. Her face was the spitting
image of her grandmother, a constant reminder that one day she would rule.
The Magic Master, highest mage of all, was her personal teacher - and his whip
never touched her flesh. She was known for her prodigious talent, her magical
resources beyond any other in known memory, and she was known as the pride of her
family, her city, her people. Casual cruelness is second nature to her, as much
or more as any of her kind, and she takes particular pleasure in doing so with
magic. Showing off, really, and proving she just is better than everyone else. A
delightful life, as long as it's your life, of course. Never once did she fail.
Never once did she feel she was not superior to any other, not stronger than any
other, not able to handle all that might come her way.
But of course there would be no story to tell if everything went according to
plan. Czorzhinka's reveling in her stature was all well and good until the
shackles of her life started chafing. It seems she was not quite so happy with
rigid order, when it went against what she wanted. At first it was small things,
small, shall we say, infractions. Being late for things, making important people
wait. Small but painful pranks, petty jokes at others' expense. Things that
someone in her station can get away with. But as with most things, the more she
got away with things, the more boring they became, and the more she needed to
sate her desire for some chaos in this ocean of order, the greater the
transgression she needed to committ. Ultimately, it ended where of course it had
to end, where it always would end. Death. She worked her way up with various
less final acts - injury, theft, disgrace, anything and everything she could come
up with, and always after thinking of some way she could accomplish her plan
with an interesting or new use of magic. And after years of this, of course
she came to the last stop, the greatest of all things: taking a life. She had
done so before, all dark-elf do early on, but always in a very controlled
environment. Never without permission, never without proper processing in
the City.

Lmewrca was his name. He was the sixth person to turn a hallway corner. That'
was it, pure chance. She wanted to taste killing for her own desire, and so she
simply set a number and voila! Her victim. It took two months for her to come
up with a perfect plan. The time, the place, the magic, it was not easy. But
no one is better than Czorzhinka, and in time she was ready. The day came and
without even a second's hesitation or a bead of sweatch, it was done. Success.
Her satisfaction was extreme.
It did not last long. It turns out Czorzhinka is not actually perfect, and
as good as she thinks she is. Not but two days later a knock came at her door.
A knock that was followed by a throwing open of her door without waiting even
a second for permission to enter. Guards, directed by her mother, swarmed in and
grabbed her - grabbed her! - and proceeded to frog-march her in her underclothes
and with no word other than harsh instructions to be silent and not resist.
Her hands and mouth were bound to prevent any spellcasting, and soon she stood on
the wrong side of a door of mithril bars, impenetrable to her.
Things moved quickly then. Within hours she was before her Grandmother. Who spit
upon her as a fool. Banished her from the City. And, as a reminder that she is
no longer related to the Matron Mother, painful magic was used to transform
Czhorhinka's face. No longer does she look like anyone in her family. Now, she
looks like a common beggar. By dawn the next day she finds herself in the
unforgiving wilderness of the underdark, the patrollers from her city giving her
nothing but scorn as they watch her slink by. Oh the shame!
Of course, in her mind, it was not her failure. It was someone else's fault, or
simple chance, and nothing has changed in her self-overconfidence. Instead, she
now sees herself on a bit of a crusade. She will change her environment. She
has seen how her own people are just as shackled as the so-called people of the
"light". They think they are bound to act as others determine, they think they
are unable to show who they are, to live their own lives. Czhorzhinka will
be the example for them. And of course the best teaching tool is death through
magic. It incorporates ability, intelligence, strength, cunning, self-knowledge,
and of course power. It is perfect. As is she. At least in her own mind...
Confirmation

Things progress well. Reaching the surface Czorzhinka has found much of what she
needs in various cities. Most importantly she has found and become inspired by
the teachings of Aylosi, the Fae Witch. As part of her rigorous training she
sought Aylosi's presence and, when the time was right, succeeded. While not too
long, that first meeting enhanced the desire to walk the Fae Witch's path. Nothing
made that more clear than the first task: kill a villager, or applicant. It was
a perfect task, and one Czorzhinka took on gladly, with relish. However, in the
days that followed, not a single villager or applicant walked the lands, and so
Aylosi expanded the task to include either an imperial or a tribunal. With that,
mere hours later, the bloodoath bard Zephis stared as his corpse.
Czorzhinka's first kill was pure delight. Tasting the blood of a death she caused
directly (not literal drinking of blood) sparked an inferno, a lust for death
she always knew she had but never confirmed in flesh and blood. She wants more!
Returning - or, more accurately, finding a new place - to speak with Aylosi,
she told of this first victory, to Aylosi's obvious pleasure. Her next task was
to sew more death and chaos, and, separately, to study magics other than her own.
As to the first, she has accomplished it, and in spades. Several more have fallen
and her skills are improving, both at magic, and at using the magic to bring fear
and chaos and death to those around her. While doing so however, she continues to
practice her magic. To do as the Fae Witch commanded and learn of other magics,
Czorzhinka went to the obvious place, the high tower of sorcery. Some old man
who thinks himself smart stands near the top, leering at the students as he
pretends to guard the books and maintain the shields around the bookcases.
A few empty promises and a not even so good batting of eyes and pretending and the
lech is putty in Czorzhinka's hands. For days she gathers book after book, each
text on different magics - necromancy, conjuration, shapeshifting, invocation, and
even some on the anti-paladin magics. For several days she had a routine, she
would travel down to the grove outside the tower, practice teleportation magic
and then, when her hands grew tired, she would move back to her desk at the top
of the tower and spend hours reading. And reading. Book after book. Treatise
after treatise.
Eventually she exhausted the not insignificant resources of the high tower. And
the dirty old mage finally begun to grow weary of her delays and deflections. It
was perfect timing, and now she will seek the Fae Witch's counsel to discuss.
Separately, after beginning to delve into the words of the Scarab Temple, she has
pledged herself, and firmly believes her philosphy and life and conduct will be
a well meshed blending of that with her religion. However, there are no mortal
(Confirmation last two lines!)

leaders of the Temple, and so she does have a concern how best to proceed. Time
will tell, for now she will visit and seek to live as though already one.
