Notes on descent to Hells
Added Fri Oct 17 13:14:16 2003 at level 51:
Divine Lord Khasolothas called us to Throne Room and the trip began.
During the trip, several times I have seen signs that that his
attention was with us.
Before we entered the first circle, we had brief discussion of our
responsibilities, and they were assigned to eachof us. As was
explained, it was important that we understood what he could do
and what he should not, as failure to perform could mean death
or even destruction of he whole party. As it will be seen
further that it was the reason we stopped our progress on sixth
circle.
There are two types of inhabitans in Hells: those who are ruled and
those who rule. Among the first kind are different souls and shades.
These are not very interesting: they are void of life, have no
bodies and would only attract a dull necromancer. The only one I
found interesting was Master Aristotle, from whom I obtained his
notes, which I am still reading.
Devils and arch-devils form the real force in Hells. They hold all
the power and the power is them. Even most weak of them are among
the strongest creatures in Thera. Their power and variety growed
as we descended to lower circles. I was amazed by differences
in body complexion and metabolism among them. I learned much about
my own spells and possible effects. It is as if everything you can
imagine can be found somewhere. Further information is availale
to citizens on request.
What was more surprising, at least to me, is that these devils,
managed to create orderly society. Each circle is ruled by
arch-devil. And though we have not been close to one, I have
learned some things about them. Further information can be
obtained on request.
As was ordered by Emperor and High Priest, we strived for the deeper
circles. We made few rests on the way to the city of Dis and only
when it was necessary. Nevertheless, I managed to do what I consider
big personal achievement: peer in very interesting libraries of Thera.
I suspect that there is at least one on each circle, but I have been
in libraries of Fourth and Fifth. I should admit, some of the tomes
which I held in my hands would make a mage to pay all his money and
even more. If only I had more time to examine them...
First library is in the keep of Belial. I suspect that the largest prison
in Hells is also there. We have seen a party of elves and slayed them.
It was strange to meet them there, but quite satisfying.
The waters of river of Styx flow all the way through the Fifth circle.
Not surpising, there were many aquatic devils and I must say that
water enhanced them very much. We had to cross it later, but first
we visited the keep of Mephistopheles whic stands on the shore of
the river.
The magnificant city of Dis is spread over Sixth circle. Furies were
before the gates and we had our first real test of power here. It was
successful... almost. When we had the key which would allow us
the entrance, bard Araekor opened the gates. Priest Arkozian, who
tried to stay away from battle by periodically leaving us, in moment
of chaos ran thorough them. We have later found out that it was
horrible Medusa who turned him to stone. And there as the beginning
of end: we no longer had the one focused on healing wounds with us.
We have made our way to the city and accomplished much, but we knew
that it was not feasible to continue the descent. We have visited
the temple of Dispater, ru
