Description

Short and squat, the Gods created this duergar with an image of ugliness firmly affixed in their minds. What a hodgepodge of mismatched armors reveals of her coal-black skin is pockmarked from head to toe from a childhood disease. Not even a mother could love this squinty-eyed face with its overly large anvil for a nose and a scraggily black beard that looks more like a basilisk's nest. Her beefy arms end in hands that unconsciously and continuously clench into fists. Stocky legs support a muscled frame that looks well-suited to suffer any form of hardship. Despite her homeliness, Daltheis' smile is warm and inviting as her lips form a silent plea for abuse.

Character Premise

Background: Glutton for punishment

Daltheis is a natural glutton.

Masochistic attitude: her goal in life is to seek out punishment. Punishment
can take many forms (verbal abuse, degradation, pain, etc.), but she will
seek it out in all its forms.

Big and beefy for her race, she is heartier than most and therefore able to
withstand more punishment. She is repulsive, and takes pains to BE repulsive
for the humiliation of others' derision.

Her family was a prominent one in Aran'Gird, but her actions and appearance
caused her to be disowned and cast out. She knows that if she returns, the
duergar there will show her no mercy. When she feels ready, she will seek out
that glorious suffering.

Religion: Arvam

Arvam is the best choice for Daltheis because of his tenets of intensity and
action. Daltheis is a masochist who constantly seeks out punishment.

Daltheis will constantly seek out punishment to the fullest degree by: 
a) pushing the limits of her endurance while ranking and fighting
b) enforcing Imperial Law for everyone, no matter how unpopular
c) occasionally breaking Imperial Law to be exposed as a hypocrite
d) goading enemies to try and kill her and being disappointed when she wins
e) allowing, whenever possible, maledictions on her to take their full course
rather than healing them.

Protective supplications like sanctuary are desired because they allow her to
take more of a beating. Offensive supplications hurt others in the hopes that
they will want to hurt her back even more. The shaman spellset is perfect in
that the maledictions (poison, plague, fatigue) prolong hurt.

Cabal: Empire

The Empire as an organization is all about systemic and systematic abuse.
Those who have power lord it over those who do not. This concept is
ubiquitous. The imperial ranks make it possible for the Emperor to order the
High Priest to do an impossible task. The High Priest can pass that task
along to her underlings. When they fail, they are punished. No matter how
high one rises in the ranks, the opportunity for a painful or humiliating
failure is present.

Religion: Arvam

Daltheis believes that her name is well-known throughout Thera as a masochist
who craves punishment. Unfortunately, most of her "toys" end up broken with
their corpses laid out at her feet. Too few have shown any worth in
delighting her with painful torment despite how plaintively she begs.

She's spoken with Arvam on a few occassions, and He blessed her with both
power and pain. Still, it's been long since she felt His firm hand on her
backside. She won't lose faith, and prays to Him often. Daltheis carries a
special whip she found just for Him to use upon her.

Cabal: Empire

Oddly, everyone in Empire has been very... supportive. Daltheis has wholesome
relationships with the High Priest and Shadow Lord, who have gone out of
their way to be helpful and accommodating. Both have bestowed gifts of
promotions and equipment. Is it because they are pleased with Daltheis'
progress, or is it because they are simply kind? Perhaps strangest of all is
the Emperor who calls Daltheis "Big D" and asks her to refer to him by his
given name when speaking in private. This is hardly what she expected out of
Empire. Except for one instance by the Imperial Council, she has received no
verbal or physical reprimand. Daltheis isn't quite sure what to do.
