Description
Glistening armor adorns this hulking minotaur, albeit a bit mismatched. A
crimson stole is draped over his shoulders, with a white kite shield
stitched on one side and a black codex stitched one the other. Standing
with a dignified posture, he is nearly as tall as a giant. Thick horns grow
from each side of his head, curving forward and upward into deadly points.
Dark-brown fur covers his entire head and body. A braided strip of
reddish-brown hair runs from between his horns to his back, where it
disappears into his armor. While his head is that of a bull, his teeth look
more like those of a grizzly bear. His piercing eyes are dark orange around
the edges and lighten to almost yellow near his black pupils. From neck to
waist is a very muscular humanoid torso. Large fists clad with polished
gauntlets are tightly wrapped around the hilt of his weapon, appearing ready
to swing it at any moment. Additional weapons, looking recently sharpened
and shined, are securely fastened around his body for quick access. His
shined leg armor stops just above his hocks. Supporting this bestial
creature are large black hooves, with hoof covers polished to shine like the
rest of his armor. Overall, he seems to be a very well-kept minotaur,
especially compared to the usual the savagery expected of his race.
Role
Darbod Nobletaur, Impersonator of Royalty
Added Mon Sep 25 13:24:51 2023 at level 8:
Growing up in Seantryn Modan, Darbod spent most of his free time lurking
around the palace. The constant parade of royalty and dignitaries fascinated
him. With envious eyes he watched as the royal family's visitors arrived
covered in jewels and followed by their many servants. He heard the stories
of lavish banquets and balls happening behind the palace walls. He saw
wealth, power, respect, and he desperately wanted it for himself. To get on
the right track, he started by trying to look the part.
Instead of looking and sounding like a common minotaur, Darbod wanted to have
that air of royalty about him. As he watched and listened around the palace
he also imitated. He memorized phrases and postures of those with power and
would practice them later in front of a mirror. By plundering the royal trash
and stealing from a guard outpost, he made himself a suit out of royal cloth
and armor. It may have been obvious to others it was all a facade, but Darbod
believed he looked and sounded like one of the people that visited the palace.
He even started calling himself Darbod Nobletaur, the most dignified sounding
last name he could think of.
An Opportunity Missed
Added Mon Sep 25 13:27:07 2023 at level 8:
One day, Darbod was pretending to casually stroll through the palace garden at
the time he knew the princess often went for a walk. He had done this many
times before but this day was different. A band of thugs attempted to kidnap
the princess. Her bodyguards were able to quickly dispatch most of them but
it was a fast and fierce battle. In a few minutes all the guards and
assailants were dead except for one remaining thug. As he approached the
princess with devious intent a sword burst through his chest from behind.
Another citizen of Seantryn Modan was also in the garden that day and had
saved the princess.
The princess thanked the man for coming to her rescue. Kneeling before her
the citizen said, "I exist to serve you, my princess." A smile came across
the princess's face and she responded, "Then serve me you shall. You are a
peasant no more. From today on, you are one of my royal guards."
Reinforcements from the palace arrived soon after and escorted the princess
back into the palace, along with her new bodyguard. Darbod stood there in
dismay as some other commoner got to live his dream of being invited into the
palace.
Existing to Serve and to be Served
Added Mon Sep 25 13:30:11 2023 at level 8:
The already existing jealousy within Darbod grew out of control. Wishing so
badly to also ascend from the lower class he decided to approach the princess
in a similar fashion. While she was walking through the garden with her royal
guards one afternoon, Darbod neared to make his appeal. Dressed in his finest
armament, decorated with a silken sash, he kneeled before the princess and
repeated the other man's words, "I exist to serve you, my princess."
This time, however, the princess was not impressed. She scoffed at Darbod,
"You may serve me by staying away, foul beast." With a dismissive wave of her
hand she signalled for the guards to remove Darbod from the palace garden. In
the most humiliating moment of his life, he was tossed out on the street like
a piece of trash. As he picked himself up, his jealousy and humiliation
quickly turned into rage.
Darbod used all of his wits to come up with a plan for revenge. Even better
than serving a princess would be to serve an immortal. Even more powerful
than the royalty of Seantryn Modan was the Emperor of Thera. He decided to
serve Lord Destuvius and rise through the ranks of the Empire. Then, one day,
he will return to the palace and force the princess to give up her life by
bearing his child.
Difficulties in the Empire
Added Wed Nov 1 21:27:12 2023 at level 30:
Recent battles have shown Darbod he under-estimated the complexities of war.
He has had many successful battles and retrievals, but it was much more
costly and difficult than he expected. Because of this he has decided to slow
his rate in rising through the ranks of his guild and the Empire. There are
three aspects he feels the need to improve on first: concentration in combat,
knowledge of the lands, and expanding his war chest.
Failing to recite prayers during combat shows his lack of experience. In one
battle, it even cost him his life. He attributes this to relying too much on
others while advancing in his guild. To remedy this he will temporarily stop
traveling with others. He will do so once again after he feels he has made
enough improvement on his one.
Currently his abilities to navigate Thera are adequate. However, difficulty
in pursuing his enemies led him to desire greater knowledge of the lands. He
now intends to do more exploring to learn the nooks and crannies that are
commonly missed. Much of this goal can be accomplished while also working on
his goal of being more disciplined in combat.
The goal of expanding his war chest started with paying healers and repairing
weapons during retrievals and other battles. It became a higher priority
after a failure within the palace. He had called a Bloodoath in for a
promotion, only to learn he had not donated enough to do so. While he was
able to gather the coins and give the promotion, it was embarrassing. Funds
gathering will be done as he explores and trains, but he will also dedicate
more time to raising donations for the Empire.
All of these shortcomings have also caused his hatred for enemies of the
Empire to grow. He is becoming less and less tolerant of those that do not
serve the Empire willingly. His hatreds for the Fortress, Outlanders, and the
chaotic are especially growing. Now he is demanding the Bloodoath or
donations from the uncaballed while doing his best to kill Imperial enemies
and the chaotic.
Policy updates
Added Sat Dec 2 21:49:55 2023 at level 40:
After much time spent practicing his prayers, Darbod now sees his biggest
weakness as a lack of strength, not a lack of self-discipline. With this, he
has resumed traveling with others. He is still seeking to explore and raise
funds as much as ever, maybe even more than ever. Lastly, he no longer
demands that others choose between the Bloodoath and coin donations. Now,
suitable donations to the Empire will also include knowledge, goods, or a
direct service such as helping him grow.
