Description
The drow maiden before you is tiny, for her people. Scarcely four and a half
in height, she is well proportioned, and beautiful, if in a strange ethereal
fashion, by the standards of most of the dominant humanoid races. Her
hair is immaculately maintained, and flows long and straight from beneath her
headwear to gather upon her shoulders, but it is notable owing to its bizarre
color, which is a deep crimson. It stands in sharp juxtaposition to her pale
grey eyes, which set of an aquilane nose well.
Her armor does not conceal her shapely figure, but from the odd bulges here
and there, you suspect that it does conceal some weaponry, or other items.
Her movements, even the involuntary ones, seem possessed of an extreme grace,
and her body language suggests that she is able and willing to fight when she
deems it worthwhile. Judging by the quality of some of her armor, she has
indeed seen a lot of battles, especially if the damage that her repairs have
failed to completely conceal are anything to judge by.
Role
Leaving home, and settling on the surface
Added Tue Jan 12 14:26:35 2010 at level 1:
Dartis turned away, her stomach churning in frustration and anger. Always she
had achieved more than her larger rivals, but never would they recognise her
achievements. Instead, cutting remarks and notionally hushed whispers undermined
her position.
Enough was enough. She had learnt of the powers wielded by the dark knights of
Teth Azaleth. Powers that could secure her position in the heirarchy of the drow
city, where only those with an edge over others could survive without suffering.
It was obvious that they would never allow her to reach her potential here, amongst
the willfully blinded cretins she called kin, so she steeled herself for the trip to
the surface world, where others of the guild preyed upon the weak.
Scant nights later, she emerged from one of the underdark's many caverns, and
set out hurriedly to find someone who would take her as apprentice. She had
plenty to offer. Her body would buy her the lore she desired, and more besides.
The city of Udgaard sounded enticing, and it would not take her long to murder and rob
her way to raise the money she needed to rent a cot near to the guild.
SCION APPLICANT
Added Tue Jan 12 17:18:38 2010 at level 9:
Allies will be needed on this surface world, already apparent as an environment
every bit as hostile as the underdark, albeit in different ways. Not any
allies, but carefully chosen ones. The scions are reputed to be fearsome when
angered, as well as guardians of secret lore and a prophesy that they claim will
transform Thera.
If they know about such a fundamental change, it would be best to be on good terms with
these secretive prophets. Who knows? They might even share their lore with her
if they, unlike her kin back in Teth Azaleth, are capable of seeing her worth.
The influence of sphere concealment
Added Wed Jan 13 12:33:49 2010 at level 16:
The accursed sun beats down on me, marring this life in the surface world. How
much to be preferred the shadows are! Not merely for comfort, but for the survival, and
the hunt. Still, even without shadows, one can still use the element of surprise and
evade the parties out hunting thee should ye choose. And I will choose, should
it seem the best course of action.
The scions too know the merits of the shadows. Their very names are closely
guarded, and rumor has it they know much lore that they will not part with to outsiders.
Moreover, they traffic with living shadows, and allegedly seek to rid this land
of the burning sunshine, bringing about blessed night. To join in this endeavour
would suit me well, and to share in the secrets that others may not see would
suit me better still. I hear these scions judge applicants and each other on
their merits. That can only be a good thing. I've had enough of being judged
on my stature!
Patience
Added Thu Feb 18 06:27:31 2010 at level 51:
As the spider must wait motionless if it is to capture the wary prey, so too
must I bide my time. Slowly, my strength grows, and with it my ability to harvest their
souls. It is noticeable how others now make efforts to gain my favor, although few
seem truly worthy. At least I have been able to set them to spying on those that
would seek our downfall.
At the same time, my studies progress well, if not painlessly. These wards
do not work as I had suspected they might, but I have discovered more about the
spell that I shall henceforth refer to as the plague malison. Dying at the hands
of the undead necromancer in an effort to determine whether the ward interfered
with his magic was not pleasant, but it will all be worth it once I make the
breakthrough that I surely shall.
Many have approached me seeking a place in the chasm. Some few, seem worthy.
Some skilled in battle, but terminally dull, but nevertheless a proactive group. In
time, I would bring one or two of them into our ranks, if I had the power. Certainly
others seem to follow my lead on this surface world. A strange thought, since
life was so different back home. "Home". Not a word I shall use to describe the
city of my origins again. This bright world, whilst hard on the eyes, is my
home now.
