Description

Unattractive would be an insult to the depths of this mans appalling appearance. His too large crooked nose seems to leap out at you from his face. Mottled brown hair that is rather unkempt and seems to have a few plants, sticks, and some dirt in it as well as perhaps some bugs, is left to fall of its own accord. Cracked too thin lips shroud yellowed crooked teeth. Brown eyes shift to take in everything around him quickly, they almost seem to give him the look of something wild and unsure. His chin has a dimple in the middle that simply does not look to belong with the rest of his facial features. You also see that his fingers are thin and his nails left to grow, they have dirt and grime evident underneath the edges as though he has been digging in the dirt. The garments and accessories that he wears are mismatched and do not seem to compliment him in any way shape or form. And as you look upon them, you see that..

Role

Celebration driven realization.

Added Mon Dec 3 22:38:14 2007 at level 46:
From mountain top to mountain top he would run, to sit and let the strongest
winds push him back from the precipice. Always the wind would hold him from
falling and this he would come to love, come to love the brutal caring
embrace of the wild. This would end many times with a wild abandon and a wish
to be thrown into the world, and so he would carefully chant the invocation
to send his body, mind, and spirit out into Thera without any concern. It is
on one of these instances that the natural chaos inherent in all things felt
the need to play with him, and so he found himself on the edge of a clearing
overlooking a small rocky draw. Before he could be disappointed in the lack
of an extravagant adventure he heard rough guttural laughter bouncing across
the rocks and up from the draw. The strange topography of this place funneled
the sounds and with a quick chant to painfully manipulate his iris he was
able to see the scene before him as well as hear it. Disgust swirled in the
pit of his stomach, dropping it and raising bile violently into his throat,
as he gazed upon the filthy Orcs caught in the throws of their revelry.
Carcasses, a truly monumentous pile of flesh, separated the creatures from
one another, and as he watched they dug into the pile in a semblance of order
to take their turns gripping some trinket that had caught their eye. Sickness
overwhelmed Dejek as he watched, unable to look away.. unable to even blink,
he only stared in horror. And then the pile was treasure-less and the orcs
began to stare greedily at each other. Then the strangest thing happened, in
turn the creatures would choose something that another one had for
themselves. Each and every Orc took its turn, no blood poured from massive
wounds brought on by greed and selfishness, no screams of protest filled the
deep dark night. Only the guttural glee of these sick things.

And so Dejek realized that he could no longer sit and think about what he
could do, he must act on his hatred and seek revenge. But not only that, he
realized with cold certainty that he must join the war to rid Thar-Eris of
all that which is unnatural. Strange that the celebration of the disgusting
creatures would draw that from him, and yet the scene filled him with nothing
but fear and cold anger. Nothing that took what he loved from him should ever
feel any semblance of Joy! NEVER!

Screams of pain and shock soon filled the night sky as an enormous reddish
brown spider snapped its pinchers and bit away at the orc flesh, without
regard for its own safety.

Searching.

Added Thu Nov 22 01:36:53 2007 at level 28:
For years Dejek wandered from forest to desert, desert to mountain, mountain
to city, watching and learning all he could. He visited every guild he could
of the magi that were able to manipulate the very form of their own bodies.
On he walked and on he learned, and he did it all in near silence. Rare was
it for even the guildmaster themselves to hear Dejek speak, but when they did
it was always relevant and insightful pertaining to the various intricacies
of life and fate as he saw them. Long he did this, and always when he would
come near an orc he would slink off into the shadows of the underbrush or the
deep recesses of a nearby ally. It took him some time to realize his hatred
for the masses of individuals mewling and wasting their lives in ignorance at
what life truly could be within these vast cities. Long it was before he
realized it, but he could hardly find a way to act on it, so he would spend
his days high in the nearby mountains, or deep in the thick forests, far into
the middle of the plains and deserts, but never in the swamps.. the wounds
were simply too deep and always too close to the surface. So he would sit and
contemplate, practice and sun himself, and the hate at life and the sheep of
mother Thera would build until it would boil and seethe, bursting forth for a
moment in a predatorial cry of utter rage or a bubbling rush of tearful sobs.
But always as he became more comfortable with the abilities his father had
begun to open up to him, he would sneak his way back into the thick mass
filled streets of a nearby city and glean all he could from the teachers
there, leaving as quickly as he had come to sit and ponder what he had
learned. And he would wait, and watch, and think.

Changes.

Added Thu Nov 22 01:35:31 2007 at level 28:
The rest of that day was spent in relative relaxation and a bit of joyful
celebration as they took the luxury of fixing languidly in a distant river.
The catch was actually quite good and as they packed their belongings and
this nights feast they were in such comfortable ease with the day that they
failed to notice the presence of a rather sneaky thief up stream, watching
them with interest. Oblivious father and son were as they began to make their
way slowly back to their cave, not bothering to be careful, this was after
all their swamp and had been for so long. Not long at all did it take for the
opportunistic and rather disgustingly filthy creature to gather up several of
its obviously starving orc kin and follow after the two unwary humans.
Perhaps it was Thera herself who plotted against the old hermit and his son,
for he looked back several times as they trod along seeing nothing but the
gleam of the setting sun behind them. It was well into the night, the fire
crackling between them, bellys full of succulent fish, that the first true
forewarning crack of fallen sticks sent chilling terror deep into Dejeks
heart. His father was on his feet and staring far into the night before he
could even turn his head in alarm, limbs twitching with fearful excitement.
And then it happened so quickly.. so quickly..

The old hermit was chanting hurridly, unbothered by the thrown axes whizzing
past his head as he stepped forward to push Dejek behind him. Cries of pain
mixed with guttural growls of rage flowed forth from his fathers throat as
he pushed him again, pushing him to run off into the night, off into the
swamp. Dejek was able to turn once to look back at the man whom raised him,
now a bristling mass of fur claws and teeth, pounce into the huddling orc
ranks. Brackish water splashed into his face as he stumbled in the moonless
darkness, tripping often on stick and root, the painful screams of cowardly
orcs chasing him into the desolate night. Far he ran, so far he reached the
edge of his swampy home, the edge of the very swamp itself. And that is when
he heard the piercing cry of intense pain, what can only be a deathcry, of
some beast.. from the cave! Disgusted in himself for running, even if at his
fathers prodding, and confused at the twisted feelings of loss and
hopelessness Dejek stumbled out across the plains stretching before him, the
stars spreading into the vast night sky above him.

Painful lessons.

Added Thu Nov 22 01:34:18 2007 at level 28:
Young Dejek, for that is the name the infant adopted as he grew older, stared
in rapt concentration at the pile of collected deadwood stacked before him.
Dingy brown eyes narrow as a beads of sweat streak down his young face as his
lips part to whisper the mere breath of a command word.. and.. Nothing
happens. Spent, and in utter exhaustion, Dejek falls back on his derriere to
try vainly to catch his breath. He looks up at the ancient stick of a man
leaning against the nearby stump. His father stares at Dejek for a few
minutes, studying him silently and then calmly nods back to the sticks again
in steady patience as though this has happened time and time again. With a
sigh Dejek pushes himself forward to rest on the balls of his feet as he
crouches over the pile once more, concentration already evident upon his
features.

Cold wind whipped through the sparse vegetation surrounding the entrance to
the cave that is called home. So used to the strange fluctuations from hot
during the day to strangely freezing at night are the father and son that it
hardly fazes them at all. They enter the mouth of the cave, strange for there
to be such a thing here, in the middle of one of the most vastly stretching
swamps known and make their selves comfortable after yet another trying day
of patient teaching and learning. Young Dejek is fast asleep beneath the soft
bear fur blankets, a light snore filling the small comfortable cavern. His
father, the old hermit that he is, goes without hesitation to work upon
preserving and saving the spoils of sustenance they collected during the day
out in the swamp between failed lessons. Soon enough he is done and making
his way around his cavern settling himself in when he stops to stare at his
son for a while, something obviously occurring to him as his expressions
shift quickly from surprise to sudden understanding and resilient
decisiveness.

Early the next morning, frost still upon the swamp grass surrounding the
cavern entrance, father and son stand together to watch the sun rise above
the trees. The old man then turns to Dejek and patiently walks him through a
process which Dejek listens to but can do nothing but shake his head at in
obvious dismay. Steadfast in his resolute manner the old man urges Dejek on
yet again and again, finally Dejek caves and agrees with a simple nod at his
father. The change in young Dejeks mannerisms is almost immediate as he
instantly begins to whisper and stare at his hands, concentration etched so
vividly upon his face. Sweat beads and runs down his face and suddenly he
winces in pain as the flesh of his hands burst outward, claws sprouting
through the skin and fur growing disgustingly fast from his skin.

Death and birth.

Added Thu Nov 22 01:31:41 2007 at level 28:
A soft cooling wind gently shook the changing leaves as it carried a
solitary high pitched scream of pain. Quickly another pitched cry of agony
followed. Lying prone on a thick bed of fallen autumn leaves the tanned woman
opened her mouth to scream in utter pain yet again as her mate urged her in
her labor. The actual birth was swift, only moments passed, compared to the
unforgiving pregnancy and the precursor to the birth. And before the wind
stilled the young baby boy was held protectively by the fur clad dark skinned
human, who gazed with true compassion upon his son. And then he realized that
his mate no whimpered in pain or cried in joy. The failing light danced
across the solitary tear sliding down his face as the nightjars began to fill
the night almost uncomfortably with their song. The tear fell free and the
man followed it with his eyes till it splattered upon his love, and as his
gaze was down upon her it turned cold and malicious. Twisting his head he
looked upon the already sleeping child, a vicious sneer ripping suddenly
across his face.
The first rays of sun shot across the tops of the leatherleaf trees,
showing the stretching waters to truly be dark and foreboding. The bogs
silence was shattered by the incessant wailing of what could only be a
newborn child as his father walked away from the slight island that he left
it upon, splashing unceremoniously away from his sons cries as he covered his
ears. Rage and utter remorse showed visibly upon his tanned face as he
stumbled his way through the black waters heading as quickly as his human
legs could carry him from the swamplands.
The cries continued for some time, sending many of the native
creatures into hiding in fear at the abnormal sounds. Soon though, the
whimpering cries brought forth a man covered in various skins from head to
toe. He moved easily across the wet ground until he stood upon the suddenly
silent infant, staring down upon it. Long he watched the babe, and long the
babe watched back, so long the sun was at its zenith before he bent to pick
up the still silent child. Cradling the infant in the crook of his arm, it
fast asleep almost instantly, he began his arduous journey back across the
swamp to his home.
