Description
This diminutive young woman is clearly dressed for travel. Her clothing
is tasteful and reasonably well maintained, but you would never confuse it
with what the wealthy typically wear. She has dirty blonde hair that
reaches down to about the middle of her back. Right now she's gathered it
together into a simple braid. What might otherwise be an unremarkable
appearance is upset by the fact that she is actually quite lovely, with
perfectly symmetrical features and flawless skin except for a few freckles
on her cheeks. If anything, these serve only to enhance her appearance.
Vivid emerald eyes completely the picture. You might have taken her for a
simple village girl if not for the dagger at her side and the tell-tale
pouches and containers that broadcast her study of the arcane.
Role
down a dark path

Denawe was born to a family of modest farmers that worked a plot of land
roughly a day's journey west from Voralia's Tears. Hers was an uneventful
childhood and she led a fairly sheltered life. That was to change one
year when the family made its traditional trek to Voraliay City in order
to bring their crops to market. A passing mage sensed in Denawe the
nascent spark of magical ability and asked that her parents release her
into the care of his guild so that she might develop her talents. After
overcoming some initial skepticism, they agreed she should board in the
city and study in the guild. Had she been a boy they might have had a
tougher decision to make, but since she wasn't it was a simple choice.
Once situated in the guild, Denawe began a trip down a dark road. Most of
the other students came from houses of privelege and were hopelessly bent
toward the acquisition of power and personal advancement. They craved
each new lesson from the guildmaster. Not out of intelletual curiosity or
aesthetic appreciation for the craft, but for the additional power it
would afford them. She was so desperate to fit in that Denawe too began
to echo these hollow desires.
through the looking glass

This changed rather abruptly one day when she accidentally interrupted a
lesson being given to some older students. They were gathered in a tight
ring around a circle the guildmaster had drawn in the center of the
lecture hall. Worming her way between the spectators, she made her way to
the front of the crowd just in time to hear the instructor complete her
incantation. She must have elbowed one of the older students while she
was squeezing her way to the front, though, because he shoved her hard in
the back as she was leaning over to get a better look at the circle on the
floor...
She lost her balance and fell foward, right into the middle of the magical
circle. A gasp went up around the room, and she had just enough time to
see the look of terror on the guildmaster's face before everything faded
to white. She had no sense of moving, but the lecture hall and all its
occupants were gone in an instant. Instead she looked out over the most
incredible terrain she had ever seen. And yet it was utterly foreign\;
each color was impossibly vivid, lit by a near-blinding light that seemed
to come from everywhere all at once. Currently this light was coalescing
into a number of shapes that were rapidly moving in her direction.
an object of wrath

He sensed the disturbance at once and moved swiftly with his subordinates
to intercept the intruder. Straining as one, their forms streaked across
the alien landscape toward the spot where the planar boundaries had been
disrupted. Sensing rather than seeing, he perceived the golden auras of
his lesser brethren flare even more brightly with their zeal to destroy
the interloper that had invaded Elysium. His own aura pulsed quietly with
restrained strength. What manner of darkling would be so foolish as to
tresspass in this holy place? He would find out soon enough.
As it turns out it no darkling at all. Her aura was weak and dim compared
to his own, and polluted with the greasy taint that pervaded her plane of
origin, but it still bespoke the underlying nature of her being. He
pitied her, then, for he knew the minds of his brethren. They, like him,
had tasted the filthy residue of darkness she had brought with her into
their plane and, sounding their battle cries, prepared to destroy its
source. The being seemed to shrink in upon herself as the soldiers of
light prepared to strike, resigned to the oblivion that was soon to come.
whom then shall i send?

"No," he thought, rather than spoke, and his lesser brethren froze. This
one would be taught the error of her intrusion into his domain, but she
would not be destroyed. He would open her eyes. Yes. And then he would
send her back. Perhaps she would warn the others in her sickly plane
against any further incursion. Regardless, henceforth she would see her
world as he saw it. The way it truly was. He pitied her again, briefly,
as he extended nebulous limbs to lift her head. And her eyes were opened.
And she dreamed. And, when she awoke, she was once more in her own world.
set upon a path

Denawe's brief sojourn in Elysium left her deeply changed. Unhinged in
fact. When the archangel touched her she became instantly aware of all
the darkness in her own soul, and was bitterly ashamed. But he didn't
stop there. He forced her to confront the full extent of the wickedness
that dwellled in the darkest regions of her own plane. To whatever extent
her upbrining had sheltered her from such terrible realities, that ship
had now sailed.
And yet to the same degree she became aware of the darkness in her own
world, Danawe came to understand the sublime perfection of the plane on
which she had met the angelic host. In her later years she would often be
at a loss for words to describe the difference between the two, remarking
only that Elysium seemed "cleaner" in some intangible yet utterly
fundamental way. The experience with the archangel left her little
choice\; she must dedicate herself to the work of seeing that vision
realized in her own world, no matter the cost.
