Description

Before you stands a human of average height and muscular build. The lines of his body can be seen below his elegant apparel. It is obvious that he takes great pride in his appearance and takes the time to look pristine. His hair is black and is tied behind his head at the base of his neck with a jeweled leather cord. His eyes are a beautiful green and sparkle as he casually smiles. His arms are defined and toned, but not overly muscular. He grips a sword in one hand and a shield resides on his other arm. A dagger can be seen tucked into his belt. He moves with a very fluid and deadly grace. As you look closer you notice that...

Role

Knowledge (part 2)

Added Wed Jan 21 10:34:35 2009 at level 21:
Derelis mind was not put at ease by the answer he was given. The next day
Dereli went to the Inn while he had time between work and dinner. As he
entered the bar the bartender gave a start at the sight of the young man.
Dereli thought that strange as he had never seen the man before, but he made
his way to the bar anyway. Dereli inquired of the bartender about having a
serving girl who became pregnant some sixteen years ago. The bartender
smiled and told Dereli all about his mother, and described why he had been so
startled to see the boy. The bartender told Dereli that he looked very much
like his mother. His hair and eyes were the same color and his graceful
movements reminded him of her. He told Dereli that he had kept looking for
his mother after she had left the Inn, and how he had heard that she had
perished. He said he looked for a child but never could find one.

The conversation went on and Dereli asked about what the man knew of his
father. The bartender became sour and began to tell Dereli about what he
thought had happened. As the tale continued a storm began to rage within
Derelis heart. A dark storm that would push Dereli on in the darkest of
ways. Dereli left the mans sight in anger and the bartender was saddened to
once again see a Palgorin walk out of the bar with a struggle before them.

Knowledge (part 1)

Added Wed Jan 21 10:33:20 2009 at level 21:
The guildmaster continued to be impressed with Dereli's skill and his ability
to learn from just watching the lessons of his students. Most of the time
only catching glimpses of the techniques. He found Dereli to work harder
than any of his paying students and began to grow somewhat fond of the young
man. Their bond of master and pupil continued to grow in their late night
training sessions, and Dereli became like an adopted son to the guildmaster.
He lessened the chores Dereli had to do around the dojo and instead assigned
him tasks to perform in and around the cities of thera. He would take
letters to the guildmasters of the other guilds and retrieve from them
whatever they had for his master. Dereli completed every task to perfection
and continued to grow stronger in the sight of his master.

Time passed as Dereli continued to relish in his new found status within the
sight of his master and the guild. During his downtime Dereli had more time
to ponder things that he never had really thought of before. He began to
wonder where he came from and how he came to be a servant to his master. At
the end of a good session of sparring Dereli asked the guildmaster how he
came to be among their guild. The guildmaster seemed apprehensive to answer
the question, but the wondering look in Dereli's eyes swayed him to speak.
He told Dereli about how he had come across his mother in the alley, bleeding
and dying with a newborn coming into the world. He was not overly graphic,
but did describe that she had the tattered clothes of a serving girl from the
Inn. He told Dereli that was all he knew, and that he did not care to find
out more information.

Shaping

Added Wed Jan 21 10:30:23 2009 at level 21:
The early years of Dereli's life were nothing of great importance. He was a
toddler in a violent place, and so he was often abused. When he was old
enough he was given tasks to perform around the dojo. He would pick-up
weapons, and restock the towels for clean up. He would have to help scrub
the floor at night after the days events had left it with remnants of blood,
teeth, and skin. Dereli knew no other way of life, and so the sight of these
things did not faze him.

Dereli reached a point in his growth that he could begin to understand and
mimic the movements of the fighters. He would carefully watch them while
working around the dojo. He did his best to avoid being punished by the
guildmaster for being lazy. Late at night, after the other servants would go
to bed, Dereli would remain awake and sneak to the dojo. He became very good
at a young age at using his ability to stay within the shadows and to keep
his movements masked. He would spend hours upon hours at night working
techniques against the practice dummies. It was hard to manage some of these
things with little noise, but he was able. He devised ways to pad the
dummies in such a way as to minimize the hard strikes against the wood.

Dereli continued to age within the guild and as he would go about his chores
the guildmaster began to notice the grace with which Dereli moved. He had
been a clumsy toddler, but now he was growing to be an agile young man. The
guildmaster was surprised at this change and so his mind began to wonder how
this bastard child had learned to move in such ways. The guildmaster decided
then that he would follow Dereli and figured this out.

The guildmaster watched Dereli closely for the next two days, following him
to the dojo and saying nothing. He watched Dereli practice his technique and
was amazed at how much the boy had picked up without formal training. On the
third night the guildmaster revealed himself to Dereli and told him he would
receive no punishment. He instead promised to spend time with Dereli in the
evenings to smooth out the rough parts of his technique. Dereli showed great
promise from his time with the guildmaster, but he was still only a servant
to the guild. The guildmaster made him understand that his work for the
guild was paying the cost of his training. Dereli worked with diligence from
then out, seeking what he wanted. He had been nothing his whole life, but
now he was becoming something. He had nothing from the day he was born, but
now he saw the chance at having much. Greed began to fester in his heart.

Origins (Part 2)

Added Tue Jan 20 15:37:50 2009 at level 20:
As the serving girl walked past him, the priest grabbed her by the crook of
her elbow and forced her up against the casks. He made some rude remarks to
her about blessing the casks another way, and that why wait for courtship
when he could have her right then. The girl screamed for help but the sound
was lost in the din of the boisterous noise from up above. The man lifted
her dress and tore her undergarments away in order to have his way with her.
After having his way with her the priest turned to her and told her to tell
nobody lest he bring charges of dark sorcery and debauchery against her.

The woman remained silent about the whole ordeal, even as the bartender
pleaded with her to tell why she was crying. Five months later it became
very evident to the Innkeeper what had happened to make one of his serving
girls so upset. He continued to plead with her to share her story, but she
would not, as she wanted nothing bad to happen to the child. During the
ninth month of her pregnancy the young girl took ill and was forced to quit
working at the Inn. The money she had quickly ran out and so she was forced
to defile herself by pleasuring the lowest of men for mere coins. The last
days of her pregnancy were rough on her, she was not feeling well and she had
very little to eat. In one of the dark alley's of the city she laid down
with her head on a rock and gave birth to her son. During the birthing the
woman struggled to keep herself coherent. A man happened by and took some
pity on the woman. He took a dagger from his belt and cut the umbilical cord
of the babe. As he did this the woman looked at him, shuddered one last
time, and died. The man was not happy with the situation, and so he wrapped
the baby in the tattered remnants of her clothes and took her to the
Assassin's guild where he worked.

He presented the child to the guildmaster and the guildmaster allowed the
child to grow up within the guild. The guildmaster believed it would be good
to have a young boy around to do chores and clean up after all of the
fighting. It was with this that Dereli was brought within the guild, his
future bleak, but little did they know what the bastard child would become.

Origins (Part 1)

Added Tue Jan 20 15:35:40 2009 at level 20:
Dark clouds covered the eastern sky as the sun rose that morning over the
eastern road. The city of Galadon was dark as the clouds would not give way
to the light of the sun. A cold drizzle fell upon the streets of Galadon
making them very slippery around the poorer parts of the city, where the
mayor had made cuts to the sanitation of the city. The only good thing about
the rain was the dampening of the sour smells that usually emanate from those
poorer parts of town. There is little in the way of decoration about these
neighborhoods even in light of the celebration the Fortress will be holding
later this day.

Along high and trade roads pennants line the street proclaiming the marriage
of the elven goddess Baernika to Isendor her holy knight. The entire
Fortress has gathered as well as many well-wishers for this grand festival of
entertainment, food, and games. It is said that Isendor himself will even
participate in the arena events and so even some of the champions of the dark
have come out to witness the events and participate in the games.

It is during this time that a young priest of Shokai was tasked by his
guildmaster to go to the local inn and bless the wine that would be used for
the event to come that day. When the priest arrived the local innkeeper was
very busy with the crowds that had gathered for that day, so he politely
offered to let one of his serving girls take him to the casks. She was young
and attractive and definitely was in awe of such a handsomely dressed and
stately man. After blessing the casks the young priest asked the woman if he
might call on her again. The serving girl agreed to the courting and began
to walk past the man toward the stair.

The origin of fear.

Added Fri Jan 16 08:31:47 2009 at level 4:
The narrative below was penned by the High Herald as they tried to recall all
of the things that Dereli said as he spoke with an Acolyte of the Fortress.

The street lamps are always lit in this part of Galadon. The Blood Tribunal
are vigilant about keeping the streets around the Inn glowing in order to
dissuade potential problems. Who wouldnt want to protect one of the largest
tax generators for the city? The patrons need to feel as if they can come
and go at ease and not worry about the cut-purse in the ally across the holy
road. Holy Road? Ha! I can guarantee you that in every city in Thera there
is some kind of "Holy Road" and the crime there is laughable. I always find
that ironic as I think about what those who call themselves "holy" stand for.
The Inn of Galadon is along that road, and I assure you many of those rooms
are not rented out for "holy" deeds. I should know, I was one of those deeds
that took place a number of years ago. Oh, so now you are wondering how I
came to be on the path that Im on. Funny that you would ask such things
because you believe Im slipping into darkness. Why didnt you ask that
Priest of Shokai why he felt the need to rape my mother in the dark cellar
when he asked to bless the wine for an upcoming "holy" festival?

You people make me sick, and you will all pay for the things you have taken
from me. The world and anything I want will be mine. If you wont give it
to me, then Im going to take it. Ill be coming and you wont even see me.
Ill be breathing in the darkness and you wont hear me. Ill have my dagger
ready behind your head and you wont know anything until your blood is
streaming out from your torn throat. You will regret the day that I was
born. You will know my name, and it will haunt you in the darkness.

You laugh as if I couldnt do this? Do you think that the "light" will
protect you from me? You might escape once or twice, but Ill never stop,
not until I have everything I want.

What if what I want is for you to never have peace? What if I want the world
to be covered in darkness? You will quake with dread because you fear what
you dont know. Your knees will shake as you wonder who might be standing
right behind you. Know this! I am in the shadows. I am your fear, and the
name of Dereli Palgorin will forever ring in your ears.
